Mom is working today so the kids took me (ha) to buy the new Sandcrawler. This thread will be like my previous 2 building ones (sets 10179 and 10181). We will walk through the building process, take pics, discuss various topics like elements used / how, and finally compare this version to the much beloved and classic 10144 set. Building will begin later today after my son's T-Ball game My other Build / Review Threads. 7780: The Batboat: Hunt for Killer Croc : http://www.brickpick...-croc-batman-1/ 7782 The Batwing: The Joker's Aerial Assault : http://www.brickpick...arison-to-6863/ 7786: The Batcopter: The Chase for Scarecrow : http://www.brickpick...-for-scarecrow/ 10123: Star Wars Cloud City : http://www.brickpick...ars-cloud-city/ 10173: Holiday Train : http://www.brickpick...-holiday-train/ 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon : http://www.brickpick...lennium-falcon/ 10226 Sopwith Camel : http://www.brickpick...-sopwith-camel/ 10181 Eiffel Tower : http://www.brickpick...l-tower-advice/ 10194 Emerald Night train : http://www.brickpick...-emerald-night/ 10196 Grand Carousel : http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/13647-building-10196-grand-carousel/ 10225 UCS R2D2 : http://www.brickpick...0225-ucs-r2-d2/ 75059 UCS Sandcrawler : http://www.brickpick...59-sandcrawler/ 21021 Architecture Marina Bay Sands http://www.brickpick...rina-bay-sands/ 21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 : http://www.brickpick...busters-ecto-1/ Sent from an iPhone using the Brickpicker app6 points

Unpacking : The Lego boxed was filled to the top (no free space). There was 1 inner box with it's own bags inside. 24 total numbered bags (17 plus the 7 inside the white box). Minifigs parts are in random bags (in and out of the inner box). There are quite a few stickers. The manual isn't overly sturdy. However, the color used on build steps are exception. It is very easy to distinguish medium blue gray elements from dark blue gray from black. The initial couple of pages are very cool. Enjoy the pictures. It may be obvious for several of you (so please don't be harsh and just ignore this topic if you think it's stupid) but I had some really hard time trying to make some package to fit right for the sets I just sold. I had a set and box, weight with package 3.1kg and I wanted to reduce weight under 3.0 kg (2.950kg) so the shipping price will be lower. It's hard to bend the cardboard so here is a small tip to help you. I use a video game/DVD steelbox So I can bend the cardboard easily I do it several times, then at this end I use some creased paper I hope it will help some of you.3 points

I honesty value your opinion as many as others here. Most of those will be giveaways for my son's birthday3 points

Gotta love how touchy some get over Lego. It's a toy, get over it! Anyway, I'm done investing. I just won't do it if I can't get every deal offered. Life is so unfair.3 points

I believe they're talking about promotional polybags, not the San Diego Comic Con minifig winners.2 points

Look's like there needs to be a march on LEGO street against those evil 1%ers who were smart and planned ahead, had the funds and resources to buy, did all they could to succeed and followed through with a plan. The other 99%ers who missed out and are complaining should try to learn from this. If not you can call certain government parties for sympathy and welfare. Maybe they will even get someone to do it for you so you don't have to do the work for yourself. You may even get them to take away the LEGO that the 1% bought and "fairly" spread it around to the 99% who did nothing. Now where have we heard all this before?2 points

I open all the bags and give the minifigures to my son to build and lose the guns, tools, helmets, ect. Then I dump the bags and organize by color. I start handing pieces to my daughter 1 or two direction numbers ahead of where she is. While she is building, I sort the pieces further by shape and size. I try to fit all the same type of pieces together so they don't get lost when my son is done building the minifigures. When I am several steps ahead of my daughter, and all the bricks are organized, I start helping my son find the lost pieces. When building alone, I do pretty much the same thing, only I work bag by bag and have several glasses of scotch.2 points

Has anyone ever watched any of these? They appear to be made by a French married couple, and the choice of music and humor is always enjoyable. They have such a passion for building...smelling each bag after they open them lol.1 point

Thanks for covering the build. I was at KOP lego store around 10:30-11am with my almost 2 year old daughter and was very impressed with the sandcrawler box but will be holding off for a while. First time she got out of her stroller and wanted to build. Start'um early. I left with an R2 after my wife said "oh that's cute." Was all I needed... Following this thread.1 point

Man you realy got at it. I was asleep by midnight after finishing bag 3, the ladder was neat and seemed like a good place to stop. No missing pieces, the usual few extra 1x1 pieces, I think there was one mistake on page 53 but you got it right in your pics. I agree with the stickers the radar screen looks like a 2 year old did it. I realy wish they had three printed elements for the cockpit. I have to cut the lawn today. Hoping to get to bag 9, the two of them look like they each have 4 times the amount of pieces then bag 6.1 point

That was a very brave move with holding the set by the pillar. 10144 would have turned into a pile of rubble by doing that. Good to see that this is that much stronger than the previous model. I was always going to build this set, but living vicariously through you on this build will let me push that back for a while.1 point

Lego owes you a commission on the extra sets this thread sells. Very nice.1 point

Like this? By the way, that's a favorite set of mine as well. I mean come on, it's THE FLYING FLUSHER!1 point

Well I finally gave in to temptation and got myself a Mr. Burns and Homer. I figured Burns' suit would look great amongst the other business men of Lego and the nuclear rod has plenty of uses aside from a lightsaber while Homer's attire with a different head wearing a ball cap will make the perfect yokel. Haha. I must say the detail on the torsos and accessories although simple are nice and even though the heads still seem a bit big, they truly are done very well. I am thinking about possibly picking up a Lisa as her red dress could work for a grownup lady and I don't mind having another saxophone in my collection. I'm debating on whether or not to pick up a Maggie considering she is the first Lego infant after all. Anyway, despite already saying I am not a big fan of The Simpsons and an even lesser one of the new price for these Minifigures (ugh), I have no problem admitting that a lot of time, skillful effort, and pure dedication went into these characters. They really don't work alongside 'regular' minifigures with those huge heads and simple cartoony detailed torsos (on most) though but I digress. On a side note of observation, it is interesting how on Homer's arms you can actually feel with your nail the edge between the end of his sleeve and the start of his lower arm. They really did mold two different colors together instead of trying to print it on there. Also there were absolutely no bubbles at all in Burns' nuclear rod piece. It was simply perfect all around. Mr. Burns was definitely super easy to pick out with that nuclear rod and standard minifigure head (for the three eyed fish). I don't know about Grandpa but I figure finding Apu would be much like Larry the Barista from The Lego Movie as they both have the same unique Starbucks coffee cup. It feels almost like a single stud cylinder except fluted with the top being wider than the bottom if that makes any sense.1 point

Love the pic with the kids. They both seem excited. I believe my kids and I share a special bond when we build sets together, rather than my nieces and nephews who are glued to their ipads and DS's.1 point

Put a bunch of stuff on Craigslist and have sold a Brickbeard's Bounty, Uruk-Hai Army, Weathertop, Mirkwood Spiders, Ninjago Poly, and Star Wars Gungan Army set that was my son's. Straight Cash Homey! (thanks randy moss) Had lots of inquiries until they heard the prices. hah1 point

Completely redesigned interior steering mechanism. Appears to have the same movement radius but far more complex. Not sure why. 10144's steering was pretty solid and I'm not seeing space savings yet. Note : One common complaint with 10144 was the amount of interior "play" space lost in this area of the vehicle. The image directly from eurobricks review. Picked up 3 TLR Stagecoaches on "clearance" at KMart for @$25 ea after some surprise pts. A TieFighter at B&****** for @$42 and and R2D2 at a Lego store and got a Revan. I asked about the SSD and the guy said they sold out the day it was red tagged. So I guess those stories of the red retiring stickers was true. All 3 Lego stores had 0 of the 50% off sets. Sandcrawler looks great.1 point

Getting started on my end. Here are 10144 and 75059 box comparison pictures and details. 75059 is nearly 19" tall which is 4" more than 10144. 75059 is 23" wide which is less than 3/4s of an inch larger. At 7" deep, 75059 is almost double the width of 10144 (4"). Box art design is spectacular for both. I do think 10144 has aged well considering the artwork is from 2004 (box has 2005 but I know from an employee that it was done in 2004). Make no mistake, 75059's design is arguably second to none of all current Lego sets. Sent from an iPhone using the Brickpicker app1 point

I was organized, fast, clever, had recently showered, and I got my order in on the dot. My two Malevolence still went to backorder, and who knows if they'll be cancelled. Even if I were the hand-wringing type, there's no point in it. All the time and energy I could use on grousing that this is the fault of Lego or other investors or those meddling kids, I use instead in moving on to the next item on my buy list and looking for the next good deal.1 point

I think the fact that the three old dogs sold out within 15 mins is great news for all lego investors/collectors.1 point

May 4th is a glorified way of clearing out backed-up inventory, basically a pre-clearance clearance sale. The only thing they advertised was the minifig and the poster, both of which are still readily available. The people mad about the lack of inventory are the same people that buy up all the clearance LEGO they can find at Target or Walmart before everyone else has a shot... you can't have it both ways.1 point
-
I liked. It when that one couple glued some hay to the other people's living room an they were so mad. Aside from that episode lame.1 point

Gotta laugh at some of the "outrage" responses over these sales this weekend. I haven't gone back and cross checked the posts....but it's funny how it went from "these sales suck, how dare the TLG insult with substandard sales!" to "OMG!....I can't believe TLG insulted us by only having a limited amount of these great items on sale!!!" in about a minute and a half. Keep em coming boys!1 point

Hey all! I'm looking for some advice. I just picked all 16 using feel method. I'm thinking of bundling with a MISB Simpsons house. Sell or keep? How would you price? Or hold for a few years? I'd hate for the market to flood and miss a hot moment (if it even is hot). Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker1 point
