After 2 years of waiting, I finally used some of my profits toward a 10179. It's an open box non-special edition set with a very good to excellent conditioned manual. Was able to pay under Brickpicker and Bricklink values. Honestly, I wasn't ready for the 27 pound box that FedEx delivered. I wasn't home but a neighbor signed for it so that meant, your's truly carried this heavy beast 1/4ths of a block. I did a quick inspection and everything looked good enough. The key elements were there. I'm estimating a 3 week build since this will be done only during my spare time (usually when everyone is sleeping). I also decided to use the downloaded PDF version of the instructions on my iPad to limit wear on the manual. Plus, I like being able to zoom in when needed. Here is a little preview of the upcoming updated visual dictionary for Lego Star Wars! No word yet as to whom the exclusive minifigure will be at this time. Rumor is another variant of Luke Skywalker from what I heard through the brick vine. Via The Brick Fan (Note: Click on each image to enlarge.)2 points

Without the castle, at $300 it's not a good "investment." Too much risk unless they can identify set #s. For adding to your personal collection? Maybe selling a couple sets to keep the cost down? It's a decent deal. See if she'll budge on the $200 since it'll cost you so much to ship it and you really need to save money to feed your poor starving kids.2 points

Man thats a tough decsion. Don't really want to tie up money in this set on the chance it does disappear. Hmmm2 points

Star Wars Jek-14's Stealth Starfighter - $49.00 X-Wing Starfighter - $17.98 Galaxy Squad Hive Crawler - $18.88 x 4 Castle The Gatehouse Raid - $21.00 Legends of Chima Speedorz: CHI Waterfall - $7.00 SuperHeroes The Batman Tumbler - $3.99 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Krang Laser Turret - $1.79 When I came across the Hive Crawlers and noticed the clearance price, I went and snagged all of them! At roughly 75% (of which I never see), I would be one crazy stupid fool not to. Also, thank Target for never putting a clearance sticker on that last X-Wing. I saw it in store on the the same shelf it was for the past month and never moved. Between the four Hive Crawlers and lone X-Wing, I just purchased $339.95 worth of sets all for the low cost of $93.50! Can you give me a "Hell Yeah!"?2 points

You must have been spoiled with quick shipping in the past, I've always had a 2-3 days delay from confirmation to ship with LEGO Shop at Home.1 point

Passed on 70725 Nindroid MechDragon for $51. They had 3 on the shelf. Call me greedy, but I'm hoping they get discounted further. I'm not sold on this set, I think epic dragon battle overshadows it.1 point

My office. Could have some exciting sets like "Accounting" and "HR" and maybe even one that is called "Sales Department" that would include all of my company's inept sales force. "Customer Service" would be the evil villians. Do I seem bitter right now?1 point

Depending on your local market if it's difficult to find Lego it's an "ok" deal. I would maybe consider it if it were $250 shipped but of course I don't know your local market.1 point

See if she accept an offer lower than $200. Worst that could happen is she'll say no Sent from my iPad using Brickpicker1 point

I would pass. The Hogwarts castle is worth money but even the soccer set (seems that those are the big 2 sets, everything else is smaller) makes the risk not worth it. If it were in person I would say perhaps but with $100 shipping I wouldn't do it. Perhaps others see value I don't?1 point

No, doubt. The Secret Service doesn't tend to mess around (unless they're in South America).1 point

Walmart b&m is actually very easy - first time setup requires a trip to CS where they issue you a unique PIN that is walmart specific (mine gave my a little ID card with my 4-digit #). Then when you purchase, you simply give the cashier your # BEFORE they ring you up and you're set! If you forget to give them the # before, they'll have to start the check-out over! ---Keep it secret. Keep it safe.---1 point

Wow. Seems to be listed as retired in all counties except Canada and US. If this is true, we have a home run here. Extremely short 5-6 month Euro production run with a popular themed set. ...and it retired without notice. Target.com is currently sold-out so there goes buying them for a 90 day return policy. Looks like Amazon has 823 units left. You know... Everytime I went into a Lego story his past holiday season! I never saw this set. It could have been a slow seller compared to past sets so they give it the hook so soon? I also thought it looked sorts out of place next to the other winter sets as it reminded me of a snow circus.1 point

I am actually fortunate in that my last few sales tax returns filed have had more tax due (from sales to customers in California) than I've paid out in purchasing LEGO. There's a line on the sales tax return allowing deduction of sales tax paid from the total owed, so I've been getting my "refunds" (really just reduction in the size of the check I send) through that. On the other side of the equation, getting the exemptions has been going fine. I bought from two brick and mortar Kmarts over the weekend and though the customer service desks were mildly confused at first, consultation with the store managers in each case got it sorted out and I paid no tax. I have also made several Amazon purchases in the past week, after getting set up with them. I have a ways to go - I haven't purchased anything from Walmart brick and mortars yet so don't know how my local stores deal with it, ditto Target, Toys R Us. And I have to get my paperwork scanned and emailed to target.com and walmart.com after going through their steps. Still, it's nice that the only sales tax overpayment I'll be requesting back from the state next time is likely to be from Lego.com and Lego stores, that should keep it to a minimum.1 point

I am saying this for the 1,243rd time now, but I never get tired of giving this piece of advice. The $20 sets with 3 minifigs are gold mines. Many of them have 2 or 3 exclusive minis, and the ones in this price range go on sale frequently. A perfect example was 6866 Wolverine's Chopper Showdown. It was a $20 set, was available for months at $16.15 on Amazon, and retired suddenly and tripled in value almost overnight. A great set to pick up right now is 6862 Superman vs. Power Armor Lex. As of right now it has 3 exclusive minifigs. One is classic Superman, another is Wonder Woman. These two figs will without a doubt boost the value of this set. Plus the Lex Luthor will go up, it already has in recent months, and the set is still widely available. The new 76017 with Red Skull will also be a winner, and the new Doc Ock Truck Heist 76015 will also follow suit. Just to echo others' thoughts... definitely don't miss out on 76000 Arctic Batman vs. Mr. Freeze. You can't go wrong with that one. Don't wait on Power Armor Lex though! It won't be around forever!1 point

This is indeed a tough call. I personally love both of these sets. LotR and Super Heroes are my two favorite themes, so I can definitely understand the predicament here. But favorites and growth potential aside, the Batcave needs to be picked up first in this instance. It has been out for over two years now, and is almost certain to be on its way out soon. The Pirate Ship is only 8 or 9 months old, so there is still time to get that at a discounted price for a while. If you are looking at this purely as an investment, always buy the oldest set first. Theoretically it should be the closest to retirement, and the closest to appreciating in value.1 point

Life isn't always about money. If he is a good friend and in some type of financial difficulty and you have that money laying around then go for it. If he isn't a good friend though I agree with what others have said.1 point

Imo you're not a true Lego fan, the movie sets aren't crap, unlike the licensed themes this sets have the true essence of Lego, personally for me I'll take this sets over any licensed stuff anyday (not a fan, in my younger years there was no uncreative licensed stuff). As an investment is another story, but still I think that comparing these to Toy Story sets is not the best comparison at all.1 point

The very reasons you`ve given why you dislike this ship are the very same reasons why I love it. There, I`ve said it, I love this ship! Also, I beg to differ on that point. The ship really is designed as a Steampunk creation, even though the Lego Movie really didn`t touch on that concept. I`m a huge fan of that concept, and even though I`ve seen the Lego Movie already, my interest was peaked when the very first image showed up online a month ago. My opinion would be that those who are not familiar with the Steampunk concept but saw the ship in the movie may be attracted to the very different/wacky style of build that this is. Steampunk is not everyones cup of tea, and when compared to other concepts, I`d say it is much more of a smaller niche. You either like it or you don`t. While it would make sense, as others have said, to be "on the fence" about that point, I`d still say it`s either a concept you like, or prefer something else. So no, I don`t think all of the popularity is resting on the Lego Movie. That goes for AFOLs. Absolutely it will drive sales to those who are not familiar, but it`s very much a unique ship and the price point will likely prevent it from becoming a huge hit. That doesn`t mean it`s not a good ship, I seriously love it, it`s most of what I`d want in a Lego Steampunk ship, and in some ways, more so. That`s me personally, but of course everyone has their own taste. Clearly you are not a Steampunk enthusiast, and I respect that, but to say that it is "just a stupid combination of bricks and colours" would not be a true statement to someone who is a fan, like myself. I don`t think the designers could have done much better with this, I`ll be buying one most likely during double VIP, because even though I love the ship, money still needs to be maximized. As far as investing goes, that I would agree with being on the fence about. If everyone was a Steampunk fan and enjoyed it, then I`d say it would be a shoe in as a large investment. Sadly, not very many are, and most kids, if not all, don`t even know what the concept is. That`s going to hurt demand. We`ll have to see what the market and popularity for this set is a year from now to better gage the ship for investment.1 point
