I bought one Duplo Zoo. It got canceled. I bought it again. It got canceled. I bought it again. It was in customer service then canceled. So I bought it again. I called Lego. They reinstated my first zoo I purchased, but canceled the rest. Then an hour later they canceled it again. So I bought another one. It was canceled again. So I bought another one. Let's see what happens now. I'll be sure to let everyone know.4 points

There are a few things that hurt sets when they are refreshed. Newer sets are available at retail for far cheaper prices and usually are more morden looking (e.g. maybe more SNOT, newer elements, diff colors). People want sets for minifigs and special things included (e.g. maxi-sized minifigs). When a set is refreshed, most people stop looking at the brick elements included in the older sets and focus on the minifigs. If those minifigs are also refreshed, prices will further decrease because the older set is now looked as regular elements with just minifigs. sellers begin unloading the original set but unlike the past, they are competing against other sellers doing the dame thing, Let's take the 2006 Batman 1 Batcave (7783) . This set is far larger than 6860. (It also contains the still exclusive Alfred minifig. Before 2012, 7783 was selling consistently for $350 used and $550-$600 new / sealed.). After 6860 as available for 6 months, 7783 prices fell too $225-$300 used while new sets hovered around $425 with rare instances of $500+. The sets bottomed out at $175 used and $425 new when Mr, Freeze was refreshed along with another Robin and Penguin. Prices have been slowly climbing again only due to 6860 being sold-out at times and the Alfred minifig. Additionally,, more 7783s were parted out than before so less are available for sale so supply vs. demand swing it's way again for a while but only after a deep depreciation. The Alfred minifig is still helping hold the value, This is just one example where a refreshed hurt the original's value big-time. If not for 6860, most used 7783 sets would be fetching at least $450 today even with the Robin and Penguin refreshes. A more drastic example would be what the 2010 Slave 1 did to the original's value. The older Jabba's Palace can now be had for a song and dance. Even the superior designed 6210 Sail Barge is selling for far less than 1 year ago (used sets couldn't be had for under $200 in late 2012. I still can2 points

I know you don't want to hear this, but your post is music to my ears. I have 19 of these stashed in various parts of my house at the moment. I agree with the other posters that you should get it now for a bit of a premium rather than wait any longer when supply/demand will start working against you. There's some competition between sellers at the moment which is pulling the price down and also buyers are not as common since it was available in shops until quite recently.2 points

Another example, lego set 7255, hovered around 50 dollars pounds for a few years, now in the last 2 years that has more than doubled. This was a $20 set that probably retired late 2006, early 2007.1 point

When people talk about new releases hurting the value, sure there is truth to it, but it is with sets like an at-at or MF, this sentinel set will not even be a rerelease, it is different, sure its got a new wolvie, but harry potter and batman figures also appear in every set of the themes. To really spell it out, ask your self why people spends thousands on a vintage boba fett figure that is exactly the same but with a different card backing, say the Canadian version.1 point

New releases hurt the value. I don't think so with this set. There is one more set to be released in August. You won't be turning into a collector, you will be blossoming into an investor, which is far better than a quick flipper in the evolutionary ranks. "will it be worth more one day" Well what do you think, a set that has more than doubled in price within 4 months of being retired. I think you need to sell it now and learn the lesson the hard way. Have you really not got a clue, have you never heard of the issue #1 comic of Spiderman selling for a million dollars, or maybe an easier one for you, the star wars & batman lego sets that now sell for up to 10 times their value. class closed.1 point

I still can't believe that people are even talking about this. Does anyone really believe that 3D printing poses any threat to our beloved Lego hobby and activities? I wouldn't want a crappy 3D printed piece in with my collection any more than I would want a MegaBlok in there. There are so many people that are Lego purists, and that is not going to change. There is something so satisfying about holding the real McCoy in your hand. I think I speak for a lot of us here when I say that I wouldn't touch a knock off minifigure with a 10 foot pole. If it's not LEGO, it belongs in the trash. The other thing that is hard to overlook is the fact that Lego has such a strict quality control policy. Isn't it something astonishing like 3/2000th's of an inch is the allowable margin of error? People may like the idea of simply printing out a brick when they need it, but the home version will never compare to the good old molded version. One other factor to consider is that most people are never going to own 3D printers, regardless of how inexpensive they one day become. It's just not for everybody. It will always be more convenient for most people to just run to the local retailer and pick up what they want. People have always paid for convenience, and always will. I don't mean to come off as a jerk with this comment. I just find it laughable that this topic keeps coming up. ps. I also had a rough night at home tonight, so I may be a little surly. Lol.1 point

I have absolutely no idea BUT I may still be able to contribute to this thread. From what I've seen the Lego store locations seem to be high end shopping centers or malls. For a business to succeed in these types of locations they need to make at the very least 1 to 1.5 million a year which translates to just below $20k a week on average. Also during the middle of the day there are three Lego employees which means that a store needs to make at the very least $1.5K to $2k a day to justify that labor. I used to work for a very popular Forbes 100 company and whenever we planned to open a new retail location this was a portion of the model that we would use.1 point

This is one of the HUGE problems with selling on Amazon. Keep in mind that Amazon sides with the buyer 99% of the time. When a customer selects their return reason as "defective", the item automatically goes under "unfulfillable", even if there is nothing wrong with it. They have no way of inspecting the item so you have to pay to get it back. Even if it is not an FBA item, a buyer can return an item for ANY reason. They can literally open a set, put it together, and go "it wasn't what I thought it would be" and you have to accept the return. I have several scam stories, the most recent being someone tried to swap out an expensive set with one that had been opened and parts stolen. Once a customer files an A-to-Z claim, which are always bogus, you might as well give up. Their is no person you can talk or chat with. The A-to-Z department only responds to e-mails and they have limited English comprehension, instead sending the same form letter over and over. Sure Amazon reaches a very broad marketplace, but the headaches can be quite frustrating as you are tied to THEIR rules.1 point

Here are some sets that you have: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=9495-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=9525-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=8093-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=4644-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7066-1 If you could provide close-ups of the minifigures and unique pieces that would make it easier to identify them. I hope this helps you!1 point

Star Wars Jek-14's Stealth Starfighter - $49.00 X-Wing Starfighter - $17.98 Galaxy Squad Hive Crawler - $18.88 x 4 Castle The Gatehouse Raid - $21.00 Legends of Chima Speedorz: CHI Waterfall - $7.00 SuperHeroes The Batman Tumbler - $3.99 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Krang Laser Turret - $1.79 When I came across the Hive Crawlers and noticed the clearance price, I went and snagged all of them! At roughly 75% (of which I never see), I would be one crazy stupid fool not to. Also, thank Target for never putting a clearance sticker on that last X-Wing. I saw it in store on the the same shelf it was for the past month and never moved. Between the four Hive Crawlers and lone X-Wing, I just purchased $339.95 worth of sets all for the low cost of $93.50! Can you give me a "Hell Yeah!"?1 point

you want to go for exclusives, set likes the camper or the large Star wars sets, anything else will be well discounted at some point. John Lewis and Smyths toys, along with toyrus do get hold of exclusives but you rarely see them do any major sales with these sets and when they do they get sold out fast. You can get good deals online, don't have to go to the shops all the time. Also, buying some sets at a discount can be a false economy, don't go buying crap.1 point

Below is an old post from Deeker, thought it might help those who either just started or about to start selling. I will vouch for him, these sizes pretty much cover everything : "Since many of you are in the same box situation I am in I will tell you the boxes I ordered from Staples. It should make my life easy in the future in packing up rather then trying to cut to fit or stuff with tons of bubble wrap: 404628 24L x 12W x 4H Staples Corrugated Shipping Boxes 2 $31.99 426404 24L x 20W x 6H Staplesreg Corrugated Shipping Boxes 2 $24.49 481628 24L x 16W x 4H Staplesreg Corrugated Shipping Boxes 2 $39.99 426309 16L x 12W x 4H Staplesreg Corrugated Shipping Boxes 2 $23.99 557502 12L x 8W x 4H Staplesreg Corrugated Shipping Boxes 2 $16.49 These should cover almost every set. The big ones are for the modulars and such, The next sixe are for helms deep size boxes, Then middle size is for the longer boxes like Black gate and such, then last two are for smaller sets with the smaller one being for the typical 20 sets like wolverines. I hope this helps some of you"1 point

The simple answer is that selling fees on Amazon are substantially higher than any other marketplace out there. One of the issues that arises is that Amazon charges a set shipping fee for each item regardless of its destination so you can often find yourself receiving $4.99 for shipping for a package that will actually cost $25 to ship.1 point

Tesco is doing 50% off some Lego instore and the Orc Forge is currently available online if not available instore. That's about as good as it gets apart from the odd fluke find that is store specific. But I have to agree with the initial statement of this thread. UK deals are generally crap compared to the US. I have ranted several times here and there about lack of discounts. Makes me laugh though when I think about it. What other section of consumers would rant and rave online about the lack of discounts on sofas, fridges, dvds, tvs, and chocolate etc: fiction letter: Dear Sony, why are your TVs not discounted by 70% I want a 60" LED but not at your price point. No sir, I want it at my price point at that currently sits around 70% off. That's what will make me bite. I wonder if that would work?1 point

Personally, I found it interesting reading this thread. I'm new here, and I was curious as to who all we have here. Besides, isn't it a good thing to know more about the demographics of your marketplace? I grew up playing with GI Joes instead of Barbies, and I loved Tonka trucks, Matchbox cars, and of course my favorite of all was Lego! I agree it shouldn't really be classed as a "girl's toy" or a "boy's toy". Anybody should be able to enjoy building stuff, no matter their age or gender.1 point

There have been many minor comments the last week or so that didn't really impress me as being fair and carefully stated. There was not one particular comment or person to whom I am referring to or I would warn that person in private. My statement was just in general, but served as a warning as well. I am the first person to crack a joke or be sarcastic and don't want to be some tight ass moderator, but everyone must understand that there are all types of people on this site. Very young, very old, all races and nationalities, male, female and somewhere in between I'm sure. It's all good. People just need to make sure they are careful the way they present their ideas and topics and that it will not offend someone. I've had my fill of some negative attitudes and will weed those characters out in time. People can constructively disagree without being nasty or insulting. I want to keep this site fun and friendly, which it has been for 99.9% of the time. That is all... :-) Ed1 point
