I'm with Mos Eisley, not sure to what exactly you are referring, but I will throw in my .02. I personally love the WV theme as a whole. My mother has a HUGE department 56 christmas theme porcelain houses. They all have lights and whatnot. (I think they are the Dickens Village variety.) Anyways, as I said HUGE, she has all her houses and accessories tightly packed on an 8'x4' ish plywood table. It's just an awesome spectacle to see. I love my mom's willage that she puts up every year. I believe Lego is doing the same exact thing here. They are using their personal take on the villages that people do have, but with Lego. I managed to catch up and buy all the retired and current WV sets and set up our own village. I also enjoy the fact that all the sets at retail are actually pretty affordable. I really like the cottage, even though I never grew up in a house anywhere near that, let alone in a place that snows, but it brings back many memories growing up sitting by the christmas tree with my mom playing with my toys and junk. It will become my own family tradition to buy whatever new WV sets Lego releases as they come out and expand on it.

This isn't aimed at you, humanvege, and I'm probably among the minority, but I'm glad they're finally doing this. It will become the norm as more and more people abuse the return policies at various retailers. I know, I know, they have a return policy, you're not doing anything wrong, you're the customer, you're always right. Here's the thing, they don't want people buying up every hot set during peak selling opportunities, just so that they can return the rest of the sets they can't sell when the time has passed. Now the retailer is stuck with a bunch of stuff they can't sell for a while when they could have sold it all to end users to begin with. Everyone thinks it's no big deal because they're just one person, but this is going to continue to be a problem as more and more people abuse returns.

At the Lego stores I visited in the Northeast, the Death Stars come one to each case box. The outer brown box for the Death Star is made of thicker cardboard than the typical Lego brown box. In addition, in the DS brown box, there is a protective cardboard on the top and bottom flaps.

Yes how many cases are scattered all around the world, Pretty sure there are maybe 100,000 or more sets out there, but remember every Christmas the 2 Lego Stores in Baltimore sell 100's and always sell out, so If all this is true and the Panic Buying starts these will sell out at Lego,Tru,Target,Amazon pretty fast, Then the impatient sellers start selling, these would be investors can't wait to start selling there's not knowing its a bad move.in the first 2 years after it retires $500 and up profit. With the new movie coming out well who know's what the limit could be. Now see the more I think and write about this it makes me want to buy a lot more. Welcome to Brickpicker!! How do I cope with the temptation to open a set? I buy two or more of the specific set I want to invest in. I build one of the sets to keep for myself and use the rest for investing. It helps me because I want to build every set I invest in.

I completely disagree on the aesthetic points. The 'realistic looking' DS2 is boring. Nothing exciting about staring at a big grey sphere. The point is remembering all the scenes from SW & ROTJ, and this is what the DS1 is about. Recreating those action sequences in lego form.

i think there is more to this than is being said - she is an idiot and probably wanted a free item - my guess, she will never "hear" anything from lego because she won't contact lego.

we heard rumors last yr from insiders on this site (plus I even did from my Conn-based employee connection). some came true (certain LOTR sets) while others didn't (e.g. Helm's Deep and Orc Forge by the summer, the mine, Tower Bridge) . then we had complete surprises (10227 B-Wing and Hulk's Heli...) anyway, lego doesn't have a replacement star wars playset to take it's place. the ewok village (i know it's fun) doesn't compare to the death star. neither does a huge sandcrawler (and i'm a big-time vintage sandcrawler and jawa fan). maybe a huge cloud city or a 10188 refresh since the set is 6 years old. who knows at this point. until i see a "retiring soon" sign on shop.lego.com, nobody has an idea.

wow, really? they are just basic elements widely available. interesting. my son built the plane and car. i can't sell it though as it will break his little warm heart too bad he has a bald emmet driving (our movie theater didn't have any left but gave us a minifig without hair - lol). let me know if anyone has an extra emmet hair piece (no pun). worse case is that han solo will let him borrow a fully combed "do".

I sold 3 AS last night for $240 each. Don't see the reason not to go ahead and flip them. Its obviously back.

I don't like it. The open back, generic design, it just seems forced. I wouldn't mind an apple store though, because apple fans spend a lot on overpriced tech, so I wouldn't mind them becoming Lego collectors too...

I had wondered if B&****** getting these in store was some sort of 'flushing the remaining inventory' tactic. Not quite a clearance,,,,,but a way to get these things in front of people and out of stock. It was also interesting that the R2's and DS's bridged the gap between the Arch Studio selling out of B&****** stores (around Thanksgiving) and the potential return of Architecture studio (some rumors saying 3/6). Almost like B&****** said, you've left a hole on our shelves, give us something else. In most of my B&****** B&M stores they literally put the R2's in the generic Arch store display where the Arch Studio display used to be.

I don't know if it's ALWAYS true, but it was one death star in one perfectly sized sealed case from Amazon when i ordered mine a while back. Hope that helps. Another option would be to call up a legostore and ask them, they likely have a few in the back.

Well it looks like some of you guys are starting to worry about the Death Star, My Secret agent told me Production stop a few months ago,now is it true and the Legoland Manager said they were discontinued last week. now you see I have the itch now to get 5 more. 40 is my limit. So if this is true and you guys start saving your money and get these baby's, and we will be seeing big money being made. Remember this set was a huge hit for 6 years,so now it will be triple huge hit. sure there are a million of them out there, most built, some put away for investment a couple thousand of them are thrown in a closet, lost pieces, thrown away,ETC but there are billions of people worldwide and there will always be millions of people who will want one, and will pay the big bucks, Ed

Any minifigure produced in China such as the Minifigures line should have the "copyright LEGO" on the inner part of each arm. Just move either arm pointing forward and you should see the copyright symbal followed by the word "LEGO". I believe there also is supposed to be a copyright symbal on the part of the hand that goes into the arm which you can see by turning it to one side or the other.

Can I complain about myself? Legoland California opened their Lego Movie Experience today. Annual Passholders could get a Pajama Emmet or DJ Robot ploybag for showing up to the attraction between 10-1 today. from my experience selling and buying, buyers usually go for the cheapest price listed. then they worry about shipping (many clicks) and that is how they select who to buy from. so when buyers are searching for minifigs (in this case) and sort by price, your listings will be higher than most since you have shipping pretty much built into your price. this is important regardless if you might be cheaper than many sellers before you on that list. why not just charge actual shipping cost and advertise that to buyers?

Good points. You are right in that there are always 4-5 year periods where market returns can be skewed. As far as the Lego market, we will be seeing a ton of current "investors" that are going to unload their products much earlier than they should because of money issues.

The Lego Hard to Find Exclusives from 2007-12 there were alot of great ones, and if you would of stocked up on them well you would of made huge money, now for the Exclusives now well my thought is that most are as great and will bring big money, The Main problem instead of 2 year shelf life now they are 2-4 or more, and as for more would be investors I stated this alot at least 75% of the new would be exclusive investors will start to crack within the first year and most will give up by year 2. If you ask 1000 people if they would invest say $10,000 on Lego and tell them they will have to wait 2-4 years before it retires and then a few more before you will be able to sell and make some money, I bet 975 would say no. Don't worry about new investors most have no idea whats going on. But back to the exclusives that are out now, Most are great sets that will make anybody who buys the right sets and can handle waiting, which is hard. "But remember who ever didn't get the 10179 years ago and you no how you regret and think about it alot, even me and I had 10, well don't do the same thing on the Death Star, because if you miss the boat on this one you will never forgive yourself, I can't forgive myself for not buying more than 25 Harry Potter Pocket watches from the first movie, Fossil Exclusive $100, had a special case just perfect just like the movie, paid $100 sold them for $400-500, I kept saying buy 50, but I didn't and there are a few more toys I screwed up on, but with Lego I am going to try and not miss the boat on any set. Sorry for chiming in but I can't help it. There isn't really one if you mean for investing purposes. Sure, you can get lucky with sets likes the Zombies and 41999. Sets like the new Arkham, Tower Bridge, Sidney Opera House, 10188, Super Star Destroyer give me "moderate" hope but they are already hoarded by people like us or have been available long enough at (or below ) retail price so too many people already have them. As you know, it' small bout supply vs demand, The "exclusive" and "hard to find" sets have extremely long retail lives nowadays. I seriously doubt we'll see another Eiffel Tower, Taj, Grand Carousel, etc... in terms of ROI. Back in the 2000s and 2010, anyone could pretty much invest in the cooler sets and make serious coin after a few years. The sets mentioned above along with most UCS, the initial modulars, trains, Batman 1, Harry Potter, and Indy Jones were no-brainers. Jeez, if only I was investing then... I fear, those days are long gone. We have more investors, longer retail lives (as already stated), less time between retirement and refreshes, and there are far more sealed sets available nowadays than even 3+ years ago in the secondary market. I do think we can still make money on popular sets that retailed for 6 months to 24 months as long as they aren't refreshed too quickly,

I dont really care about the Simpsons (since season1 ) or robot ninjas or Chima (although the 2014 sets do look cool) or even the movie I do love the SeaCow - I bought 2 so far (one for me and my kids and one to maybe sell) and blew all my points to get them. That it is part of the move does not matter at all to me. I think it is a fun larger build (unlike the Destroyer which about drove me insane with all the grey parts), is very Steampunk, unique and not fragile but appears to be very sturdy for all of us to actually play a lot with it. Some of the other boats just are not sturdy enough for serious play. My only complaint with the set so far is that I wish it broke out the build into multiple manuals so each family member can work on a section at the same time. This boat combined with the "Steampunk" MBA set is slowly getting my hopes up for one day having a true Steampunk theme. The second my kids and I all saw it online we all said wow at the same time. A first for any lego set. I think it will sell well in the future.

Still alive, I figured this would have gone after the first day of BOGO. Either people are full up and aren't buy many anymore, or they still have a ton of castles. I must have got the last couple crazy scientist sets. I put my order in earlier this week, and now the entry is completely gone from their website. Haven't seen it on store shelves, so looks like we're good on that set at least.

I see too many sellers letting their personal feeling get involved in the way of rational buiness decisions. So you , any seller, is right and they , the buyer is wrong, is wrong so what??? Sometime you just have to take the hit and carry on for the sake of your business. I'm not saying you have to fall for a scam or a scumbag trying to steal your money, but at times you need to swallow your pride and just let it go. Do you have a macro for these posts? Kidding aside, I agree with the points in principal. I will challenge one thing - with LEGO Shop at Home, is there really any reason why they have to retire anything? Shelf space in the Lego retail store may be limited, but in the online world they aren't as limited. With the Lego market continuing to grow, it would actually make sense for them to increase the number of high end sets available as part of their product mix. So I hope you are right on the retirement, but I don't think they "have" to retire anything.
