  1. How can you tell the quality is bad from that picture? Or that it was made in China? Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

  2. Be careful with assumptions, the dow and s&p from 2000-2010 had a zero or negative rate of return ignoring inflation. From 2008- 2013 the s& p just got back to flush from what was lost in the sell off of 2008-2009. Track the price of the sets mentioned by Emazers from 2008-2013 and you will see that the legos far outperformed the markets with little to know counterparty risk on a risk adjusted basis. Lack of liquidity by definition relates to expected return. If I have high liquidity I should expect lower return and the opposite holds true bank account vs. mutual fund vs. real estate vs. commodities. The probelm I see with Lego investors is that people will invest money they should not, or use leverage to get it. When the liquidity train comes calling it is always at the wrong time and people "crack" and sell when they should not. This is exemplified in the stock market. People buy and sell on the inverse because their emotions get the better of them.

  3. The Lego Hard to Find Exclusives from 2007-12 there were alot of great ones, and if you would of stocked up on them well you would of made huge money, now for the Exclusives now well my thought is that most are as great and will bring big money, The Main problem instead of 2 year shelf life now they are 2-4 or more, and as for more would be investors I stated this alot at least 75% of the new would be exclusive investors will start to crack within the first year and most will give up by year 2. If you ask 1000 people if they would invest say $10,000 on Lego and tell them they will have to wait 2-4 years before it retires and then a few more before you will be able to sell and make some money, I bet 975 would say no. Don't worry about new investors most have no idea whats going on. But back to the exclusives that are out now, Most are great sets that will make anybody who buys the right sets and can handle waiting, which is hard. "But remember who ever didn't get the 10179 years ago and you no how you regret and think about it alot, even me and I had 10, well don't do the same thing on the Death Star, because if you miss the boat on this one you will never forgive yourself, I can't forgive myself for not buying more than 25 Harry Potter Pocket watches from the first movie, Fossil Exclusive $100, had a special case just perfect just like the movie, paid $100 sold them for $400-500, I kept saying buy 50, but I didn't and there are a few more toys I screwed up on, but with Lego I am going to try and not miss the boat on any set. So with the DS,SSD,TB,HH,Batman Ayslum,R2-D2,Ewok Village,GE,Tower of Orthic,Cinema Palace,Opera House,Simpson House Volkswahen Camper,New Sandcrawler and Slave 1"So I think the Exclusives out now will make anybody pretty rich if you have the money to buy and don't crack. 6. Sorry for chiming in but I can't help it. There isn't really one if you mean for investing purposes. Sure, you can get lucky with sets likes the Zombies and 41999. Sets like the new Arkham, Tower Bridge, Sidney Opera House, 10188, Super Star Destroyer give me "moderate" hope but they are already hoarded by people like us or have been available long enough at (or below ) retail price so too many people already have them. As you know, it' small bout supply vs demand, The "exclusive" and "hard to find" sets have extremely long retail lives nowadays. I seriously doubt we'll see another Eiffel Tower, Taj, Grand Carousel, etc... in terms of ROI. Back in the 2000s and 2010, anyone could pretty much invest in the cooler sets and make serious coin after a few years. The sets mentioned above along with most UCS, the initial modulars, trains, Batman 1, Harry Potter, and Indy Jones were no-brainers. Jeez, if only I was investing then... I fear, those days are long gone. We have more investors, longer retail lives (as already stated), less time between retirement and refreshes, and there are far more sealed sets available nowadays than even 3+ years ago in the secondary market. I do think we can still make money on popular sets that retailed for 6 months to 24 months as long as they aren't refreshed too quickly,

  7. Couple Grand Emporiums today with the walmart tower bridge 40 cards. Going to focus on these two sets for a few months.

  8. I wasn't being sarcastic, I was being serious. I just thought it was funny. Logic dictates if you don't count gift cards as a payment when receiving an item, might as well not count the "gift card to everywhere" aka cash. Obviously people can treat rewards how they want - but just pointing out that math is math and there is one correct way to look at it.

  9. And there is one good reason why I am a completist within reason. If the minifigure was exclusive then perhaps I might see myself buying the polybag but mainly otherwise (especially in this case), I just walk away. The character in either the Thor or Legolas polybags are/were available in other easily attainable sets. If you only want the character then that's okay but honestly why would I pay $15 for a single minifigure when I could buy a larger box set including the same one fully loaded with parts as well as a few other minifigures for a few dollars more? Anyway, that Legolas polybag will be nice for any child of the parent buying the super ultra mega deluxe 3D version of the film but I already have a couple of that Legolas from the Mirkwood Spiders sets I found on clearance. As if I need yet another. Ha.

  12. The problem with this statement, and why most likely, about 999 people would say no 1. There is no definition of "make some money" (20% return, 100% return???) 2. Your capital is completely tied-up. Basically no liquidity 3. Had these people invested in the Dow 500, five years ago, they would do no work and double their money. Doubling your money on Lego sales is hard work and time consuming 4. Storage Lego investment discussions are interesting, for sure.

  15. I really believe that the action that we're seeing on this set is a sad glimpse into the future of Lego investing. All I keep reading in different forums is people complaining that the price is going too low on EBay. Well you all have created this with unwarranted panic buying/selling. Don't just jump on the bandwagon because it looks like a neat ride. DO THE RESEARCH BEFORE YOU PULL THE TRIGGER! Past performance is not always an accurate gauge for future expectations. The good thing that will come out of all of this is that we will really start to see some "investors" (most likely flippers) go away. I'm not sure how anyone can feel satisfied in making a MAXIMUM of $20-25 each flip on this set. And for those of you who need to "feed their family" off of Lego flipping, you better start stocking up on Top Ramen and Mac-******-Cheese, because at this rate, that's all you'll be able to afford. And for those of you that are buying and holding, keep it up. Weather the "new investor" storm, and we will continue to come out money ahead and provide a good ethical avenue for future Lego maniacs to find those retired hard to find sets. Because a lot of the ethics in this hobby/job are being compromised every day by people who feel entitled to a good Lego deal. Thanks a lot USA Today!!!!

  20. For investment? Definitely later. For personal use? Then I guess it depends how much you want it vs the possibility of saving an extra 5% down the line.

  23. For me the best think about TRU is they are a seller of last resort, since their prices are so high they are the last to sell out and have stock when no other retailer does. When you forget to buy that last Unimog for yourself to build and teach your kids engineering principles, cause over christmas you were to busy buying tons of FB and WVC, well TRU has you covered, yeah you don't get much of a discount but its better than buying on ebay or bricklink, etc. Take currently, they are the last chance for you to get MOM, RH, Unimog, VC. As a collector and lego fan first I appreciate this greatly especially when I just want the lego's to play with or for presents for others.

  24. Sometimes if someone is high on their prices let them sit a couple weeks or a month then offer something fair, but on the lower end. Success depends on how much competition is in the area and how willing the person is to ebay stuff themselves. The point is to make a little cash and have some fun doing it, not stress out or over extend your finances. If $500 is pushing it for you, take a step back and make an offer on what you really want or think you can flip easily.

  25. If you are looking for members in your geographical area you can start a thread asking to be PM. The best way IMHO is to be an active member and get to know other members before staring random PMs. It may be a slower process but it is a better one. Good luck

  32. They weren't BN exclusives - they were at TRU, Amazon, etc. Not that anyone will listen, but can we please not just say things like you know something. "This set is coming back, it is because this..." or "This set is done. Its gone" whatever. GIve your opinion but some people are writing things like they know, like they are true and they actually have knowledge of them. None of you do without some logical proof. If you don't have that, please just offer things up as an opinion. Some newer people may take things out of context from people who think they know and really know nothing. And in my opinion, unless you are the people who actually make the decisions, you are only offering an opinion.

  34. Read a preview about this back in August from The Brick Fan. Sounded neat going from pictures of the structure itself but the build isn't so great at that scale. As someone close to me said, "It looks like three vintage clothes pins with a surfboard sitting on top." Yeah, you're not going to see much growling past a certain point on these.
