  2. A "Want Ads" feature is in the classifieds area. But I am doing it a little different than just having people check off a ton of sets. These will be more like real Want Ads for serious buyers. If you do something like what Brickset has, then people will be flooded with a bunch of spam from people who think they want the set. These ads will be buyers telling sellers.."hey contact me.. if you have this set, I am interested" and you can work out a deals. The goal of the classifieds is to actively keep buyers and sellers engaged. But I guess this concept is dumb and worthless too.. Right Jojoyojimbi?

  3. I got 30 10659 Blue Suitcase sets at a Kroger Marketplace for, brace yourself, $2.50 each!!!!!! They were 90 freakin % off. They had to call a manager to override the register because the discount was so high. I went to 3 different stores and this was only one with this sale.

  4. This is completely short sited. You are only focusing on price. What about trust - we will actually know certain members. All the people on here who just collect or want parts Easier target audience to get rid of something without the hassle that Ebay provides with Used Sets Trading There are tons of ways this will work fine. My advice for you and anyone who is thinking the same thing - if you are going to make a point about something like this, try not to completely undermine a major feature that the site owners have spent countless man hours, dollars, and probably brain matter on with your opinions. You can express opinions without calling things pointless. The majority of us vastly appreciate the time and effort that goes into something like this and honestly if I have to make a little less money, but get to support a site like this, I will be fine with it. Honestly, competition is what makes things like this better anyway, and Ebay and Amazon need exactly that.

  6. I had a good offer yesterday from someone on a Jabba's Palace with no minifigures (listed for $55 which is honestly not bad considering people are paying $120 now for the full set) "I am offering you $35. I don't think you are going to be able to get your price of $55 for this as I have seen you haven't sold any. Without the figurines included, it makes it worth much less in my experience." Yeah - because the person who calls them "figurines" knows more about Lego selling than I do. My Response with a decline: "Unfortunately I need 55$ or I will not be able to feed my family massive USDA steaks. $35 only buys the cheap stuff and we would rather die than eat that. Please understand my families needs." Even better, I sold it for $55 2 hours later.

  8. I can't be the only one that finds this amusing? It took me less time to put 7898 and 10194 in the price guide search box and add up their used value than it did for you to make this topic.

  9. DNIIM, you are 100% correct. @Jojoyojimbi, you don't need to use it, but if you are not going to use it, then don't even comment on it. You are shallow enough to comment and rip apart a product that you have no idea about, but I guess you know everything right.

  10. There are two big projects going on right now. One is the classifieds and one is another that will be announce next week as it is just about done. Between the two of them, it touches on many of the points that are being talked about here. Over the past few months, Ed and I have be rather quiet on the site. For a while, we were dealing with family issues and that sucked a lot of our time. The mods have done a great job with all the conversations and taking care of things and we thank them for that. We talk to a lot of members. Many are members that rarely post or may have never posted at all. There are a lot of transactions going on behind the scenes here which is great. If it wasn't for Brickpicker, many would not know one another. So yes, some of the points/features you talk about here will be a huge success and will open the doors to new business or greatly enhance your current business set. Ed and I have been paying attention to what everyone is talking about and what people are doing on the site overall. We are constantly talking about where we think this lego investing world is going and are trying to develop the tools that will make site useful to you and your businesses. The second feature I mention will be very helpful with this scenario.

  11. A couple of weeks ago a small toy store here in town ("here" meaning in Germany) went out of business, because their lease wasn't renewed at a bearable rate. When they had their final sales I went to pick up some Lego, part for investment, part for my collection, I stumbled across a bunch of display cases with price tags on them. Last year I had asked the boss at their head store (they belonged to a very small chain) what happened to these cases if they were replaced and he told me they (the cases) were going back to Lego and they (the store) were not allowed to sell them. Looks like this either changed (unlikely) or they didn't care anymore. Bottom line: I picked up three of them, Flo's V8 Cafe and Ghost Train / Mad Scientist's Lab for my own collection and Friends Olivia's House for my daughter. The Monster Fighters case was brand new, still in protective wrap. Asking price was 50% of MSRP of the included sets and I successfully asked the store clerk to apply that week's 30% final sale rebate. I still have to find a nice place to display them (or at least to store them until then). They also had a life sized Dirk Nowitzki on display, I asked if it was for sale, but I was told that Lego would be picking this one up. The store could have kept it. For 6000 Euros...

  13. Also, just wanted to say, i'm really enjoying the discussion. I don't necesarily feel this WILL happen, just pointing out a hypothetical. There's no way to know really. Jeff & Ed have a decent window into the amount of volume we're hoarding but even that window has issues. Are inventories up to date, are they true, does this site have a significant amount of the lego investing population contributing (probably), are they all entering all their sets, etc. Also, to your note about whether lego has to worry about competing with walmart & target, i think that's a great point. But i think the key difference is that other retailers dont sit on product for YEARS at a time, creating the POTENTIAL for a market flood, Nor are they as likely to suddenly stop ordering en masse, like we might. I think the investor community is a bit of a wild card. We run up the perceived demand, (which could be a problem (who knows how big, maybe not very) if we stop buying) and we hold a ton of inventory that could compete with new lego product at any time.

  14. Positive in the short term as they sale loads to resellers. Short-term only considers current and immediate sales. JIT is a pull system where it is produced as it is ordered essentially. They only produce as they receive orders. They could do this with of out of stock items on the LEGO Shop at Home. When it is out of stock, they wait until they get orders, then only produce equal to orders. We are talking immediate sales I the short-term. Your question starts looking forward after resellers have bought loads from sellers, that is moving into the long-term. I'm not saying they do JIT, just if they do, then they only produce to current demand. Not demand from previous sales. When you say lego is competing with resellers, we have to remember Lego already sold a set to the reseller (could have been through a myriad of ways). Walmart and TRU et al, are resellers no different than the scenario provided. Are you also implying non Lego retailers are bad for Lego? Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

  18. I suspect that the amount lego investors are skewing the perceived demand is a not huge factor across ALL lego lines, but i'd love to know how much it is in certain ones. But when you hear about folks (LOTS of us) buying 30, 40, 50, funhouses from their local Toys R Us, you have to wonder, how many funhouses sold to regular purchases at that particular store? One investor buying a ton of any particular set might really skew the perceived demand. Not across ALL lego lines, but some of the collector focused ones like modulars or UCS star wars? Maybe. With items like the 41999 crawler? ALmost DEFINATELY

  21. What amuses me is that people say something won't work while it already works damn well on the Bricklink site. LEGO fans selling to LEGO fans has worked for years on that site. Our commission structure will be less than theirs. Maybe many of you are just afraid of an educated buyer. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

  22. I have no issues with you or anyone expressing their opinion. Your concerns have been heard and the reponse (from the creator of this site) was that if you dont think the feature will work then dont use it end of story. No need for further discussion on why you think it wont work. If you cannot comprehend this just let me know and I will arrange a time out for you so you can think about it. We do not tollerate trolling in these forums so you either conform or you will be removed, your choice.

  25. Snagged a 10030 complete with box and instructions for $350 today off craigslist. Had to fight through 3 hours of Los Angeles rush hour traffic, but it was worth it. Going to keep this one for myself, have had my eye on it for a long time.

  28. This week I picked up 2 Space Shuttles (3367) for $25.49 each at TRU, 2 Rancor Pits (75005) for $29.98 at Target and 1 Big Ben (21013) for $14.98 at Target. I'm hoping my other Target in the area discounts their Big Bens, because I would like one to build.

  29. The variance in quality control is unbelievable and might not stand if we collectively as a society had not let Walmart price out and shut down most of its competition. Another example of what happens when you pay your workers poverty level wages, they just don't care to do a good job. Maybe I will finally be strong enough to stop shopping with them.

  32. The pieces are more or less common pieces. If you have a few thousand little plates, I think it shouldn't be hard to assemble. That's the one downfall of this set that I see in terms of investment. It is just WAY too easy to make a set, since you don't have rare pieces in it.

  38. After much contemplation on how to make "T" "****," and "E" "unstuck," I decided to put a 1X8 plate at the top followed by a 1X10 and a 4X10. After that, I put a 2X6 and a 2X2 to make a 2X8 at the bottom. If that did not make sense, here's the picture: And here's a picture of the whole thing:

  45. You know, I really don't get all the supposed hate from TLG. Why do they care if we sell Lego's and try to make some money on their product? Hell all the sets we all buy, and I'm not a huge reseller, far from that, do put money in TLG's pocket. I'm sorry to say but with AFOLs and this secondary market, Lego wouldn't be where it is now. We aren't responsible if there's a secondary LEGO market where some people are ready to pay lots of $$$ for retired sets. That's just the way it is with things that can be collected. What's next, post offices banning people from buying too many stamps because those stamps get sold for 10x their value to stamp collectors once they retire?

  46. 1. How? Its about $160 on Ebay. IF he buys it for $130 plus tax, after fees you are probably losing money. 2. Not really smart to flip a set for peanuts if it is currently in the middle of its panic buying - Oh no its gone stage.

  47. Not only are they a big Lego collector and would give your precious brick children a good home, but they are also disabled, have 14 starving, handicapped children (and all of their birthdays are coming up), and they just lost their job. Really, when you think about it, it's an HONOR to supply cheap Lego to these people.

  49. We had a Kmart close around in Jan/Feb last year. The clearance sales went from 10%, 25%, 50%, to 75%. Sounds good, except that what they did starting at the 25% sale was move in all the crap they obviously couldn't sell. By the 50% I didn't recognize any of the toy brands on the shelf. My sons are 3 and 6. I should have recognized something more than a couple hot wheel cars. I am not exaggerating. I figure they probably worked with a local liquidator who moved out the good stuff and exchanged it for the crap in their warehouse. Kmart can kiss my ass.
