  4. I think you're right. Posts of tales of crossing the Canadian border to buy and sell sets using language like "flipping like hotcakes" get my Spidey-sense tingling. Maybe he's turned over a new leaf.

  5. They weren't BN exclusives - they were at TRU, Amazon, etc. Not that anyone will listen, but can we please not just say things like you know something. "This set is coming back, it is because this..." or "This set is done. Its gone" whatever. GIve your opinion but some people are writing things like they know, like they are true and they actually have knowledge of them. None of you do without some logical proof. If you don't have that, please just offer things up as an opinion. Some newer people may take things out of context from people who think they know and really know nothing. And in my opinion, unless you are the people who actually make the decisions, you are only offering an opinion.

  6. Craigslist find of 115 lbs. Lots of train stuff, have ID'd about 4 so far, the last 2 Freight Trains, Metroliner, and Maersk. It's pretty much all City/Creator stuff, looks like the person had a giant city built. Miles of track and baseplates. Hundreds of figures, many of them CMF's. Also found Grand Emporium and Pet Shop, as a bunch of stuff is sort of half built still. I got really excited finding the "Hotel" sign from Cafe Corner, but it appears to be home made as it doesn't match mine, so I don't believe that it's in there. There are no instructions, so it makes it very hard to discern everything. The people that sold it said they found it in a storage locker and really knew nothing about it. Paid $575, but it will be well worth it since it's mostly pretty recent stuff and seems to have been well cared for as it's not dirty, beat up, and was all in ziplocs.

  7. Come on, that's what these forums are all about! Some dude I've never met before told me that the Batcave is retired. He works part time at the LEGO store so he knows everything there is to know regarding production and whatnot. I also know for a fact that there's only one right way to invest. If you aren't doing it this one particular way, then you're just sitting on dead money and I'm going to take every chance I get to tell you what an idiot you are. And taxes you say? Nobody in their right mind pays those. Customs and import fees? Those are for suckers. If you aren't price matching sold out clearance items from LEGO.com you may as well stop investing now. I think that about covers the facts. Again, these are not my opinions, these are plain and simple facts. Keep in mind that I've been doing this for 6 months so I know everything there is to know on the subject.

  8. As to the B&****** exclusive, i understand it wasn't a TRUE exclusive, I meant it was a Brick & Mortar B&****** exclusive. That is significant in that very few items have followed that pattern in the past. I can't think of any. B&****** had a big white store display for Arch Studio, B&****** had a launch party for Arch Studio, No other store (other than lego) had Arch Studio in store (unless maybe you live in a huge city with a flagship store?) As to a potential retirement, considering the significant relationship (if not exclusivity) of 21050 at B&******, its a big deal that it no longer has a store display in store, nor a product page on their site. Further if you call a B&****** and ask them to look it up in their system for availability, they can't find it either. I had told them it wasnt on the website, and they told me oh, don't worry we have a different internal inventory system, and they were very confused that it wasnt in there either. I've checked that with 6 different stores. I'm not saying its retired, but its at least on an indefinite absence. Barring the 118 or so that just sold on TRU.com the other day, these haven't been available since Thanksgiving anywhere. As to your note about only stating an opinion, i specifically said, "In my opinion".

  12. I have 4 for investment at this point going for 10 minimum. I'm buying at least one a month regardless of discount (which don't exist anymore). I'm also mixing in some Pet Shops to try to get ahead of the game. If it doesn't retire until the end of the year I should have 15+ but I just have a feeling it's going to retire this summer? I think the Modulars are no brainers along with large scale models, Seasonal(Winter Village) etc... I believe unless you have unlimited funds there are to many large sets to own(for the collector) or really to invest in for the reseller. I think this bodes well for most investors its a natural limiting factor for the average collector or investor where in sets retire before they have obtained them. At this time LEGO has(and has had recently) so many good large sets($100+) to invest in it diversifies the pool of investors which is why I believe the FB is doing well. Even for those that didn't invest in the FB they may have just put those funds towards another winner. At this time I just can't imagine someone investing and losing unless all they are buying are $5-$25 sets and even then they might make money in 5-7 years. Now fast flipping is a whole other thing. For the most part I'm on a 2-3 year cycle from retirement to sale. I won't be selling my FB's for another 2-3 more years. After your in that cycle is where you make much bigger $ with much less work. I just don't have the time or interest to make 5-10-20 $ a set, I realize that it works for some but I make to much at my regular job for such a low return on my time. Wow...I rambled oh well just my 2cents Nothing ground breaking or unique

  13. $69.1 million box office this weekend, widely exceeded estimates of $50 million. link So yeah, definitely a hit. Not sure if there are any poster/print fans here, I can't wait to get my Lego Movie poster by Tom Whalen for Mondo in the mail. (pic) He always does excellent work but he really knocked it out of the park for this one, more interesting than the Mondo poster for Lego Lord of the Rings. Like most if not all Mondo releases, it sold out immediately. You can get one eBay at flipper prices.

  14. I would pass. If you are looking for a quick flip then really stay away. Since Walmart just put all the Galaxy Squad on clearance for 50% off, the secondary market prices will drop for a while. Same is true with a few of the TMNT items. When I look for something to flip I add up the actual resale value and if it is double the asking price I will think about it. Even at double it is more of a hobby thing than an investment. In order to be an investment you should be looking 3 times, considering you have to build/verify everything.

  15. For those interested, there is an interview with VP of Design Matthew James Ashton and pretty much confirms we won't see a Moe's Tavern or a Nuclear Power Plant. Also mentions how they intend to keep the Simpsons theme "small and targeted" amongst The Lego Movie discussion as well the success of the DeLorean helped with their Ghostbusters consideration. http://collider.com/matthew-james-ashton-the-lego-movie-interview/

  16. What is the Brickpicker "used" "guide" value for all the sets if assuming they are complete? I estimate about $350 alone with just the Potter sets using my memory of bricklink sales. $500 is a good deal. Instructions and completeness are the keys,

  17. Alright, we have a couple of new items today. First, check out this gem 'hidden' at the top of a larger image showing the rest of this year's Friends sets. It's a cute little car with a trailer camper behind it. You may need to click on the image to enlarge it fully as I just snipped out the important part. Now, check out this full-on shot for the Jungle Tree House! You can see the adorable Panda and new Macaw bird.

  18. Okay, just unpacked everything. Educated myself online about the contents. Looks like everything is there, sealed in the bags: 28 bags, 5 water plates, 8 road plates, and one sealed set of instructions. I believe I'm going to hold onto this one. Just looking over recent eBay sales, I picked this up for about the same as others have sold for. Used ones are only a few dollars less. This is going into the long term investment pile anyway. I'm sure I'll make something on this. Even if I open it up, put it together, and sell it used, and lose $25 on the sale, it'll still give me more than $25 worth of enjoyment putting it together. Bottom line, I think this is a win.

  19. Only 21 left as of typing. I'm posting this and then grabbing a couple more. I got two with shipping for 103 pounds, with the exchange rate I think my CC charged me about $94 CAD each. Not too shabby! I bet these are gone in about 20 minutes...tops...

  21. Went and saw the movie today and it is pure awesome. I took my 3 1/2 year old, it was her first movie and she loved it. I loved it they had some great stuff in their that was purely for die hard fans. Like the part numbers appearing next to the pieces as the master builders did their thing. We were also able to stop at Toys r us before hand a get the mini builds of Emmett's car and the flying cop car. It was a pretty epic day!

  22. Went to the build today at TRU, pieces were not bagged, rather pick a brick out of bins; and, was a pretty fun build, two options either Emmit's Car or a spaceship. Raffle prizes were a $10 TRU gift card, a lord business evil lair set and the pre-built uni-kitty from lego, they said the value was $500. Not a sniff in the raffle but my girls had fun.

  27. Bummer, I still have to see his drivel when someone else quotes him. He apparently thinks people are upset about his bone-headed opinions. No, people are upset because it is incredibly annoying to read the same over the top, hyperbolic ridiculousness over, and over, and over, and over, and over.
