I'm telling this story here. I love her but, she can't appreciate the story. I'm on my way to a WalMart about 35 minutes away, that I don't usually visit in my day to day travels. I stop at a TRU down the street from the WM to scout out some possible sets for the upcoming BOGO sale. There sitting in the middle of the SW sets is a Imperial Shuttle 10212 set with the security string (what I call it) on it. Are you freaking kidding me? The box has factory seals, couple of the corners are a little crunched, and there is a small tear on front. It listed at retail price of $259.99. I whip out my phone to find value, calculate tax, shipping, listing fees. I see an associate and playin dumb, ask him if ther are any more, because the box is a little damaged. He explained," it was a old set they recently found out back and it was the only one" I asked if there was a discount for the damage box. ( WalMart never does) he said they would give me 20% off. Total cost $220.99 plus 4 Lego movie passes. Best Lego hunting day ever!5 points

I know what you mean about low ballers locally sometimes on GL/Kijiji Damn, $140 all in for Falcon is pretty good...maybe I should buy from you and than flip it lol. yeah, even at BOGO 50% off some/most SW sets available are not worth it...investment wise people might be sitting on it for a LONG time unless you get lucky with desperate buyers. As I buy/sell and learn more...being selective is the key for good cash flow, inventory level and general investing/flipping success (IHMO). Those early days of buying anything at 20% off were sooo bad it's funny/painful as I think back2 points

Oh really? There are other lego sets? Are they making more than one at a time now? But seriously, to quote Flight of the Conchords, "Be more constructive with your feedback." What sets are more profitable? Why does it matter that you see it at 17.98 all the time? Wolverine's Chopper has tripled in value and I used to see it at 17.99 all the time. To say that you can find a set which is not yet EOL at 10% less than msrp can be said of what? 90 - 95% of all sets? How is that relevant? The point of a forum isn't to give an opportunity for someone to say, "you guys are wrong/dumb. Me smart." If you think the prevailing wisdom is wrong, make an actual argument.2 points

some updates since i last posted. Wonder-woman is confirmed for Man of Unsteel 2 along with 'Mark Zuckerberg' and Ben-Bat. http://variety.com/2013/film/news/gal-gadot-wonder-woman-batman-vs-superman-1200918310/ http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20782047,00.html all 3 minifigs in this set will be in the film With the recent wave of lego retirements, i think retailers who restocked this set are on their last batch. i do anticipate it to be retired very soon. i think this set is also still around due to Supes and W-Woman playing a role in The Lego movie. My April 2015 price targets are now different as the movie appears to have been pushed back to May 2016. I now plan to hold onto this set for nearly 2 years after retirement. Hopefully, that means a 1Q 2016 sale (Jan to March). At least a $100 isn't far-fetched- the key is to unload the set before the MOS 2 sets appear.2 points

I hate when someone offers you 10% of your asking price for an ebay item......really guy? I'm not trying to make money here or anything.2 points

I like looking back just to see where I went wrong. If this goes to $1000, so be it. I learned my lessons in the stock markets. I used to hold onto a stock where people in forums were calling for $50 when it was at $25, it gets to $40, then people start screaming for $60, then the next move up is $100. Everything then implodes. I see a lot of optimism on this set which kind of scares me, but it's good to be optimistic I guess. I want to move quick, sell and lock in 50-80%. I'm not holding out for triples. I can make better use of my money. Lego sitting in the storage can also risk fire accidents, floods, etc.....I'll take the money anytime, keep my profits, use some of it to reinvest in other sets. I used a lot of my profits to load up some Unimogs, Robie House and Funhouse Escape. I will be dumping Funhouse Escape when it hits $80 so I can retool and reload on Batcave at that amount, then flip the Batcaves for $150-$200 after retirement, recycle and repeat. A $20 set won't make me rich, but it provided me with a great foundation to roll new products in without worrying about my bottom line.2 points

Ok, so a little back story. Back in late Dec/early Jan, I had been constantly checking Lego's Bricks and Pieces section to see what's available. I've been BLing a MF for a couple of months now and have been extremely reluctant to buy the rigging or the dish because the secondary prices have been astronomical. Well, after much persistance, the rigging pieces actually showed in stock according to Lego's website, so the moment I could I placed an order for 2. I got an email shortly afterwards that the part was on backorder and the Lego rep had no idea when it would actually come back in stock if EVER.... So I pretty much gave up hope, until I got a shipping notification today from lego that it's on its way. I seriously cannot believe the sheer luck it took to actually get a hold of these pieces considering they are rarer than unicorn poop. That saves me over $200. WOOO. So for those that are curious, keep an eye, because since I placed the order a month ago, it's actually come back in stock once and shortly sold back out. I would say for those that do, don't give up hope. You might get lucky and Lego might give you some good news. And I'm only writing this now because I actually got a shipping confirmation. FREAKING STOKED!!! Do you guys have any stories or either getting really lucky or finding some super sweet deals that you couldn't believe were true???1 point

They have arrived and it is indeed the AS. I can't answer specific questions as I'm not at home to check them out myself but the wife says there is a little bit of wear and creasing on some of the boxes, but I would be shocked if there wasn't coming from TRU. Time to sell before LEGO shop @ home gets them back in stock.1 point

If you buy in the US, the SSD is a better deal in the US at this price point. This assumes that you clear customs without paying tax. If you are a Canadian only buyer then this is hands down the best price for the set. I really appreciate how thehobbyrat exclaimed that the sale was garbage in page one and has been proclaiming his/her love for all the sets he/she is buying. Ex astris, scientia.1 point

Really wish that LOTR and/or Hobbit sets were part of the deal. Those I`d be buying for sure. There is nothing in City worth buying, unless you are building, only a couple in SH worth grabbing, and as for SW, I`d say SSD is the best bet, followed by Ewok Village. Both of those can make you money quickly at this price, and it would be well worth it for anyone who can pick some up. Great stuff! I don`t have any yet, only started paying attention to it in the last few months or so and haven`t found a good price on them since. Apparently I was blind for a year and a 1/2, as I now see what you mean by the best Spider Man set haha. Ironic if you ask me. We get a pretty good deal up here and there are very few sets worth buying. Maybe TRU knows this and wants to screw us all by selling as poor investments1 point

Here's a few photos for those who are interested. I had the monorail all set up but it took up so much room I had to disassemble all the track while I sort everything else. I'll post some more pics as I get things sorted. You're definitely right about the monorail - it took a while to sort everything, but half the fun for me was putting together these old sets that I've never had a chance to see before. The track alone can go for $15-20 for a straight piece and the motor can go for around $50 so that probably would have been easier to sell like that. The monorail is so cool though that I'm tempted to keep it and just sell some of the other sets to recoup my initial investment and make a little profit.1 point

Agreed, with 2-3 yrs to go, you wait for the optimum deal. I wouldn't jump on AA unless it's at $150 or under. The trending price for AA is $145-$150 brand new in box. Not taking the risk ordering from TRU and end up getting a damaged box. I rather buy from individuals on ebay and see the pictures of the box. With the SSD, yes, this is as good as it'll get. Since it's closer to retirement than AA, this is the one to hit on. The exit strategy on this even this X'mas will net you around $470. And if it discontinues, you'll be seeing north of $600 fast. I can guarantee you that during Black Friday, you'll hear a few cheers about landing AA for $130. Book it. Why tie up money now and pay a premium for it?1 point

Very good point. I`m very tempted to grab some Arkham Asylums, but if it is around for another 2 years, it`s not worth it to me right now. I`m a small time investor and tying up that kind of capital for, what we assume is another 2 years or so, just isn`t worth it. Even to a very large investor, a move like this usually isn`t optimal. 25% off is amazing, no doubt about it, but not sure if it`s worth tossing the capital at it. SSD is at a very good price and if anyone here has the capital to toss at a couple, that`s probably the best you`re going to get anytime soon. Arkham I can grab in the future closer to retirement with x2 VIP, and that will only cost me $10-$15 more, when shipping is taken into account, but hopefully I`ll get a much quicker ROI. Any of the smaller sets like you mentioned, load up on those if you can. Great sets and should do very well now that they are, presumably, near the end.1 point

I couldn't resist and picked up 2 mint AA in TRU store + 1 random Lego Movie minifig/polybag just hoping to get that panda for my son haha...didn't read the thread about smooshing so rolling the dice. Whomever he ends up getting he'll be happy AA's might be around until the end of 2015 (or longer) but that's ok...I think there's good value here at this price for Canadians. Not too many sales in CAN for this set and for buyers who only buy domestically like me (foolish I know when I read about awesome deals from US/Euro) haha. After paying, the cashier handed the reciept - looked up surprised and said, 'you save $105!' Yup.1 point

haha, good stuff...lucky. Looks like a good day for you. If I didn't have a decent stock of Arctic already I would stock up now too with this deal. Not the cheapest but safe bet. Good bang for your buck anytime <$20 CAN for this set IMO. 3 pretty cool minifigs.1 point

I think the issue is that so many loaded up on the May the 4th sale that it is keeping the market at a plateau for the moment. I think you'll have a lot more success if you can hold out for another year or so and a lot of the sets purchased at heavy discounts are flipped...especially with SW set to inundate us with advertisements for the upcoming films.1 point

There are probably about a dozen different threads discussing this set, but this one goes into great detail. I encourage you to follow it. http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/7393-why-im-buying-6862-superman-vs-power-armor-lex/?hl=power+armor1 point

Looking back is rarely a good idea. Obviously you want to learn from past mistakes when applicable, but I like your strategy. You made a good amount of money on all those sets. My philosophy is that if I am making money on all my purchases, then I am heading in the right direction. Your operation inevitably grows bigger and bigger as long as you are continuously profiting and reinvesting. Keep doing what you're doing, and one day this can be huge for you if you want it to be.1 point

I had 20 sets of this, paid $21 each at TRU ca, flipped them all at $40, more than 80% profit. I'm happy. Only have one left sitting on the shelf. Not looking back as I have stocked up on Funhouse escapes with all that money at $30 a pop. Not taking the risk holding onto the Wolverine chopper hoping or wishing for $60.1 point

I only have 2 of these left. Parted out a few and sold one at my cost ($13) to a friend. But I have been thinking the same thing. I am thinking of listing my other 2 for $50+ shipping and putting that money towards a VW Camper. And doing it sooner rather than later. (Might take a few weeks or months to sell, but I1 point

One more quick point to make... the other day I finally sold my Diagon Alley for $250. I bought it for a modest discount of $125 within a couple months of its retirement. So obviously after fees and everything, I didn't quite double my investment, but I made a good chunk of money. That sale freed up enough money to 100% cover the purchase of 4 Lone Ranger Trains for $49 each. I know this is a personal preference, but here is my question to everyone: What would you rather have moving forward? One Diagon Alley, or four Constitution Trains? My hunch is that down the road, I will come to find that exchanging the one Diagon Alley for four Trains was a very good move.1 point

This may sound silly but have you tried taken it apart and blowing all the dust out of it. I managed to melt a desktop processor by not doing this. Dust had been building up (over 6 years) on the cooking fins of the heat sink and had been hidden by the fan covering it.1 point

I understand the supply and demand thing (during and after the holidays)... But the strange thing is that Amazon and TRU charged way above retail for the longest time while Target didn't. Target is now asking for $229.99 which seems out of character...1 point

I think the lego movie sets are a good reminder to lego fans to simply play with their lego sets in the most creative, haphazard and fun way like what most kids would do. I would not bother to invest in these movie sets as my kids can do just as well when they mix and match all the lego pieces they can lay their hands on.1 point

Chin up! We'll get through another round! Slow-moving parents of young children despise faster-moving parents of small children who get there first. Fast-moving parents of small children despise adult collectors who buy the last box on the shelf when they SHOULD leave it "for the children!" Collectors despise the collector/casual investor who buys TWO of a set (shocking! Just shocking! Even if they are the LAST TWO!!) and don't leave any for the purist collector. Collector/Casual Investors despise the Mid-Level Investor/Collector who don't leave any for them. Mid-Level Investor/Collectors despise the High-Level Investor/Reseller (often those counting on Lego for a significant amount or all of their income) who don't leave any for them. It's not "sick" for someone to buy more Lego than another person, or for them not to leave Lego on the shelf for the children, the parents, the purist collectors, the casual investors, the lazy, the stupid, or the weak. We're not talking bottled water in a hurricane here, we're talking a luxury toy. I won't call you whiny if you don't call me sick. Or, better yet, keep calling me sick all you want instead of taking steps to make sure you can compete with me on the fair and level playing field called "Open Hours" at the store selling Lego.1 point
