I'm telling this story here. I love her but, she can't appreciate the story. I'm on my way to a WalMart about 35 minutes away, that I don't usually visit in my day to day travels. I stop at a TRU down the street from the WM to scout out some possible sets for the upcoming BOGO sale. There sitting in the middle of the SW sets is a Imperial Shuttle 10212 set with the security string (what I call it) on it. Are you freaking kidding me? The box has factory seals, couple of the corners are a little crunched, and there is a small tear on front. It listed at retail price of $259.99. I whip out my phone to find value, calculate tax, shipping, listing fees. I see an associate and playin dumb, ask him if ther are any more, because the box is a little damaged. He explained," it was a old set they recently found out back and it was the only one" I asked if there was a discount for the damage box. ( WalMart never does) he said they would give me 20% off. Total cost $220.99 plus 4 Lego movie passes. Best Lego hunting day ever!3 points

Hey guys, TRU.ca posted their flyer earlier. BOGO 50% on all City, Star Wars, and Super Hero sets. Hopefully that equites to about a 20% discount if you account for TRU inflation on some of the sets. There may be some retiring sets kicking around your TRU, so pick some up if you can!2 points

I only have 2 of these left. Parted out a few and sold one at my cost ($13) to a friend. But I have been thinking the same thing. I am thinking of listing my other 2 for $50+ shipping and putting that money towards a VW Camper. And doing it sooner rather than later. (Might take a few weeks or months to sell, but I2 points

This is the one that worries me the most. Some sets only sell 10-30 per month on eBay. If resellers are stockpiling hundreds or thousands of certain sets it could take years to sell through all those. Not to mention more resellers means more sets available in the secondary market which drives down prices. I worry too many people are happy with such slim profits that everyone will just undercut the next person.2 points

One more quick point to make... the other day I finally sold my Diagon Alley for $250. I bought it for a modest discount of $125 within a couple months of its retirement. So obviously after fees and everything, I didn't quite double my investment, but I made a good chunk of money. That sale freed up enough money to 100% cover the purchase of 4 Lone Ranger Trains for $49 each. I know this is a personal preference, but here is my question to everyone: What would you rather have moving forward? One Diagon Alley, or four Constitution Trains? My hunch is that down the road, I will come to find that exchanging the one Diagon Alley for four Trains was a very good move.1 point

I hope to buy that ewok village as I want to build it. (: Oh to answer the topic... Bought a Sopwith camel at $75 and Arkham Asylum for $138. Both nib but Arkham is getting built at that price1 point

Looking around on ebay yesterday, it seemd there were quite a few new listings at the1 point

I think a lot of investors that bought really early in the life cycle might be wanting to take some profit/return at this price point. If I had a slew I might sell a couple now, but I think the really big money is in holding these for at least another year or two.1 point

My friend sent an inquiry to Lego about status of 21050 and this is their reply. "Thanks for getting in touch with us. It's great to hear you're interested in 21050, the LEGO Architecture Studio. The demand for this particular LEGO Architecture set has been unexpectedly high and our factories are struggling to keep up with production. That's the reason why this set is temporarily out of stock."1 point

EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!!... My kids wake me up every morning lately with that. I am sure millions more will be doing the same after this weekend. I am banking on the massive influx of girl power from this movie. I am grabbing all the discounted Friends and Cloud Cuckoo Palace I can. The Disney Princess line will also get a huge boost I bet, but waiting for the prices to drop some before the hoarding begins. I just hope they do us a favor and drop the DVD for Xmas to rejuvenate the AWESOMENESS!! ....when your'e part of a team. LD1 point

If the movie bombs, then the sets go for 70% off when summer is over and we buy them to part out. If the movie is great, we buy the sets at 50% off and sell them right before Part II comes out. If the movie is so-so, we do both. Edit: I guess I meant the royal 'we'.1 point

Unless we virtually fall off the wagon and break the virtual seals on our virtual investments for our own virtual use. That would virtually suck.1 point

Don't forget though, sitting on $1000 in cash, there's always the temptation to spend it on hookers and blow. That's a big risk that the rest of us do not have to deal with.1 point

Yup. This website actively spreading the idea doesn't help anyone, except the people that own it and get the commissions from ad clicks from new members stocking up. I respect the hard work and ability to seize an opportunity, but it really will kill reselling in the long run. At the same time, we're all guilty of using it and profiting so none of us have the right to complain about the crash when it happens...1 point

And I wonder what part of the secondary market is being fueled by resellers buying from resellers, creating somewhat artificial demand... And yeah, I do wonder what is going to happen if pool of resellers grows creating artificial demand for current sets, so TLG produces either too much, or keeps restocking sets for too long.1 point

yeah, overproduction and decreased growth are the two main threats. at some point there will stop being so many new Lego customers. I'm not worried about 3d printers one bit. they're no more a threat to Legos than 2d printers were to books, or VCRs were to movie sales1 point

I am not sure if they were talking about taking pictures of everything. I think they were asking if there was a way to reference a set when its mentioned. There probably can be a way to do something where if people reference a set in their post like #10179-1, we can have it be a link and if you hover over it, it will query the database and show an image with a few details. This is a good idea, but the issue is, will people actually format it correctly. Too many people will just do 10179 or USC MF or Death Star, etc. Everyone will not reference it like that. If this is what you are looking for, I will see what can be done, but will it be used to its fullest potential?1 point

21016 Sungnyemun is showing as "retired product" now so I believe that means you cannot get it at LEGO Shop at Home and lego stores. This will be an interesting one to watch as the production life was short and is already selling for close to $60 on ebay.1 point

Hello all, Just a newbie to the site saying hi. I have started collecting classic castle sets as part of a relived childhood (had #6080 as a kid:) Not really an appreciating asset as these are so old now but still very cool to display. Close to obtaining the entire 1984-1987 Crusaders/ Falcon knight catalog! Just a few smaller sets to go:) So basically I'm one of the guys keeping the value up on these old sets. Also bought a few newer castle sets, resisting the urge to break the seals and build um...... That is my investment side. (or the boy gets a very cool 18th birthday present in 16 years!1 point
