There will always be market corrections where the supply (# of resellers) exceeds the demand (# of collectors). This will drive prices down temporarily until the demand picks back up. I believe that LEGO is a brand that spans generations. More adult LEGO fans (even investors) is a good thing, trust me. I've already seen the impact it has in my own family. I left the Dark ages just two months ago and I already have a strong following of new LEGO fans (mostly kids, some adults). This is how demand is created: through brand recognition and pure enjoyment of the product. Kids love LEGO. Adults love LEGO. There are few toys that have passed the test of time. LEGO is one of them. I'm all-in. Not for investing purposes, but because I love the product. If I never sell a set, I'll be OK with that. I can always give some to family. In fact, that's part of my plan. To build a legacy. How cool would it be to give a sealed set that you can't find in the store to a youngster who is in love with LEGO. Maybe he/she saw the review on YouTube that was recorded 5+ years ago. "Dad, I really wish we could buy that set. I wish it was still in the stores."...then you give it to them for Christmas. You can't put a price on that, my friends. Build a Legacy. Enjoy the journey.3 points

I know we've had a bunch of pictures show up in a bunch of different threads, but here's a link to a photostream from the guy taking pictures at the show. Excellent quality of what has been allowed to be photographed so far. Enjoy. http://www.flickr.com/photos/61839591@N08/2 points

Yes! Karate Kid would be great! A Cobra Kai Dojo with Johnny, Kreese, Mr. Miyagi and Danielsan would be great. Or how about a Metallic Pea Family Truckster? You think you hate it now2 points

Good question. I thought about the negative feedback vs neutral feedback, and here was my reasoning: 1. Talking with eBay CS, they suggested Negative. 2. Within 5 minute of the auction ending, he contacted me to tell me that the product had sold earlier in the day, and that I could buy something else in his store. 3. When I immediately responded that he needed to cancel the transaction, and send me a refund, he didn't respond (again, this was within 5 minutes of the auction ending). 4. I did receive a refund, but it was the next day. 5. He has been on eBay for 4 years. I thought long and hard about it, but in the end, decided the guy knew what he was doing, could have immediately refunded me the money and told me that he had sold it earlier in the day. The lack of the immediate refund for his mistake made me feel uncomfortable. I would say that the same thing wouldn't happen to me, as I wouldn't let an auction end, accept payment, and suggest that a buyer use that money as a credit toward something else if I sold the product elsewhere.2 points

A lot o comments on here seem almost angry at the thought that you might not be able to resell Lego sets in the future for ridiculous gains. Legos are and always have meant to be toys first and foremost, you play with them, kids, adults, whatever it doesn't matter if you're worried about stockpiling hundreds of sets that you won't be able to resell for a profit open them up and make yourself a bed to lie on because you got yourself into the situation with dreams of golden bricks falling from the sky Live by my motto and you'll never be burned. Never buy a set you wouldn't want to build or play with, it doesn't matter if you're 16 or 66, you can still have fun making something out of legos2 points

Yep. I always try to aim for +/- $100. Why give the government a free loan?2 points
-
I think they mean you should have less taxes taken out of your pay throughout the year so your refund will be close to zero. If you get any refund at all you are giving your state or fed govt an interest free loan on that amount for the year. With interest rates anemic I couldn't care less and enjoy the big check in Feb. I use turbotax but will be taking cash over an amazon gc.2 points

I am going to try and explain this and that is it. I am not going to go into a discussion about this. If people can get back to a real discussion on 41999s, then good, we will leave this open for people to truly talk about the Technic 41999 and what they are doing as far as finding them, buying them or selling them. The whole situation to me is a bit confusing. This Markr person in a way does not exist and does not participate on this site at all. It is generally one of his assistants who posts as Mark. They had the great idea to try and stir things up and make things exciting here (why I have no idea). The quote in the post yesterday was... "ill let you all into a little secret into why i have purchased maybe every set that went on sale on ebay and in total 0000's " So people were waiting to find out why did this person invest in so many of these sets. After a few hours of waiting to see what this was about, I got a little skeptical and wrote him to say, please let me know what this was about before posting in the forum. I also locked his account for 24hrs so that it did not make it on here because I had no idea what was coming. I was just being cautious. Obviously he didn't like that and was upset, but never checked the real Mark's email account to see my email. He then created multiple fake accounts this morning and started posting and pretending to be someone else and sticking up for himself. Anyhow, after a bunch of emails back and forth, the bottom line is that he had a Chinese investor looking for these sets and willing to pay good money for them. Even if Mark could get 10k for each of them, it would not have added up to his investment in these sets, so honestly I don't really buy this story at all. No one needs to agree with me about this, but I personally am tired of the games. If you want to spend a ton of money on the sets, you have every right too and good for you that you can do it. If you have had good transactions with him, great. I hope you have many more. I personally try to protect all the members. Everyone doesn't need it, but there are new members that don't know as much. If I have no idea what information or ideas come out of other peoples minds, it may lead new members down a path that may not be smart. I would have hated to see a new investor that has a few of these sets to open them up looking for the Golden Ticket, but just end up have a set with broken seals etc. I just wish he could have approached us first or thought about what his goal was before proceeding. Hopefully this thread can continue in a positive fashion and stay on topic.2 points

So a while back I wrote this blog, but it was in the middle of a crap load of others and I don't know how people saw it. Maybe everyone already does this: http://community.brickpicker.com/blog/28/entry-366-amazon-gold-box-deals-make-sure-you-are-getting-the-most-out-of-amazons-discount-system/ Anyway, you can basically tell Amazon you only want Lego sets in your Gold box and it works really pretty well. I have multiple Lego sets in it almost everyday. Last 3 days in a row, I have had at least one of the minecraft sets and I got all three of them for $33.24 which as you all know anything is a good discount on those. I also recently got the delorean, and pick up battlepacks constantly there. If you aren't doing this, you are missing out. Just wanted to let people know if they didn't already.1 point

What DNIIM said, it will not make much difference down the road as long as the picture is clear and you are not claiming perfection. I only reserve calling Amazon for pricier items or obscenely damaged product.1 point

I think the most dangerous thing is if Lego investing was ever featured on TV in any way. This is extremely unlikely but lets say 60 Minutes or 20/20 or one those shows ran something about how thousands are now investing in Lego or whatever. Heck, all it would take is a 2 minute segment on the nightly world news. It would be over the next day when thousands of investors would jump in. The secondary market would be flooded and all profits would be lost. The only thing that would still be worth any kind of money would be retired sets that new investors could no longer get their hands on. Anyone who thinks more resellers in the market isn't changing anything is kidding themselves because I was here in 2012 and things are definitely different now.1 point

The real danger would be if someone were to start a website that tells every idiot how to do it - without requiring any patience, knowledge, research, or discipline (sorry, I just couldn't resist).1 point

The instore price is 19.99, the online price is 14.59. WM.com is OOS and it is safe to say for good, so the only way to get the online price is to do a S2S IF you can still find it instore ( I cleaned 3 WM doing it like that after Christmas). Lately their online inventory is all messed up, you can try to do a PM at the register but it is a YMMV1 point

Someone on Eurobricks said the exact same thing. There is a fine line between 'artistic interpretation' and 'throwing out the book to do everything your own way'. This will probably end up being the same as the Batman & Robin movie all over again....1 point

You know, I really don't get all the supposed hate from TLG. Why do they care if we sell Lego's and try to make some money on their product? Hell all the sets we all buy, and I'm not a huge reseller, far from that, do put money in TLG's pocket. I'm sorry to say but with AFOLs and this secondary market, Lego wouldn't be where it is now. We aren't responsible if there's a secondary LEGO market where some people are ready to pay lots of $$$ for retired sets. That's just the way it is with things that can be collected. What's next, post offices banning people from buying too many stamps because those stamps get sold for 10x their value to stamp collectors once they retire?1 point

This is the one that worries me the most. Some sets only sell 10-30 per month on eBay. If resellers are stockpiling hundreds or thousands of certain sets it could take years to sell through all those. Not to mention more resellers means more sets available in the secondary market which drives down prices. I worry too many people are happy with such slim profits that everyone will just undercut the next person.1 point

The Simpsons House will be one of Lego's Top selling set of all time. 85% of the world no who the Simpons are, compared to 10% no what the 41999 Crawler set is. I would recomend buying one of these whenever you can, as I am shooting for 40 of these, should be a 2 year license. I no most guys on here say I will buy them when they are retiring, Well lets see how many guys used that strategy for the Fire Brigade in other words who missed the boat on the Brigade, looks like most auctions are ending between $239-259 and rising. If you have a $1000 to burn go get a Simpsons House, HH,GE,Batman Ayslym,10220 VW Camper etc, instead of coming out of Walmart,Kmart, etc with baskets full of cheap clearance stuff that most is not worth the money and will sit in a closet, under the bed or wherever, "Now if you are a flipper and no exactly what you are doing well thats great. I know a lot of people call Minecraft a fad, but it is only a fad if you call Batman a fad too. It will rise and fall in popularity, but my older kids and their friends hook up weekly to play, and have been for years. Minecraft is a gateway to computers and programming for developing teens. I wouldn't underestimate its popularity at all. I wouldn't mind being stuck with a 100, but I am putting most of my money elsewhere until closer to Christmas.1 point

Anybody trying to set up a Lego account will make a huge mistake, You have to carry 75% of the Lego Themes, Every Set in the theme, You need a Retail sales License, You have to show a actual Picture of your Store, plus paying State taxes every quarter."Now here are a few examples of how much Lego are Wholesale. Lets take the New SW Gunship and Jabba's Barge. Retail is $119.99 your Wholesale price is $83.99 a piece, 2 to a case so $10 a box to ship so you are paying $88.99 each for them. Now Amazon and Target just had 2 big sales that you could of gotten both as low as $65-70 each, not counting all the other great sales they had, so why on earth would anybody want a Lego account and Loose money most of the time as most people are buying from Amazon,Target,Etc. Plus you can't carry no Hard to Find and Exclusives." Another thing Amazon and Target,Walmart Lost money on most of there sales, so wasting $10,000 or more to set up a account will loose big time. Before you could order what ever set you wanted, so me and 65% of Wholesale buyers were buying 99% of Large Sets and we made lots of money. Now 75% of Wholesale sellers like me has had there accounts cancelled because we would not accept there terms. ED1 point

About 8 Months ago I had a post Here is a update on the New Star Wars Ewok Village & New Big X-wing, I had the price and I seen full color pictures of them months before they came on this site, well the same Lego Rep told me this Oct 1st at a Lego store when I was there, this guy travels to different Lego stores to make sure things are running smooth, "gravy Job" he said, The lego store was not opened yet, so as I knew who he was I starting talking to him, and after I told him what he told me and the Lego employees about the Ewok Village etc 8 months ago, i started asking him stuff, and he said these 3 sets are done, at least thats what was said at the meeting he had in CT 2 weeks before, every 2 weeks ago or so there is always a big meeting in Lego in CT on all kinds of stuff, He said lego told Amazon, walmart, target, etc that all Exclusives & hard to find sets are suppose to be sold at Retail price, no big sales, but Amazon, Etc are not happy about this and are letting lego how they oppose this policy, and lego is getting Tons of complaints from people about the 10% Coupon and the Kidstuff $20 coupon if you spend over $100, Kidstuff said they will not let lego advertise in there Coupon books if they get enough complaints. He said the best thing to do is complain to lego how you oppose this new Policy, and there was talk that they wanted to not give double VIP Points on the Exclusives and hard to find, but they decided that would be to much for Lego Customers to take. So he said maybe Lego might bend the rules for the Holidays for Amazon etc on them having big sales on Exclusives. He said Lego is trying to do what ever they can to discourage big time investors from buying 40 haunted Houses like me. He said the Tower Bridge was suppose to retire This year and they have changed there mind 2 times on what to do, he said we just have to wait to see on that one. He said with lego until you really see it on there website retiring soon you really 100% can't believe what you hear. He did tell me 2 other Real great news rumors, but I am keeeping my mouth shut until I actually see it in writing.1 point
