  3. A new way to earn Brickpoints and increase the quality and quantity of the site's content has been born: Article Suggestions. Here is how the process will work: 1- Members who don't have the time or simply don't feel like writing an article, but have a great idea for one, will post the idea in this thread. One of the mods will then add the idea to this first post, including who originally posted it. 2- Anyone who is seriously interested in writing an article based on any of the ideas posted in this thread will have the chance to "claim" the one they would like to write about. Basically, it is a way for those that don't have the time to add articles to the site to still add some content, while it gives writers with a fresh pool of new ideas. 3- Once an idea is "claimed", one of the mods will update the thread and mark it as such. For example: Top Sets of 2013 (Idea by: FCB101) - Claimed by: Quacs Top Sets of 2014 (Idea by Jeff) - Available This way we can make sure no one writes about the same idea twice. 4- If a member decides to use an idea from this thread, crediting the member who suggested it is required. The author has to include something like this either at the beginning or the end of the article: "Original idea by: Ed" 5- If an article based on an idea from this thread is submitted AND is published in the Brickvesting Blog or Evaluation Corner, the member who came up with the idea will receive 20% of the total amount of Brickpoints awarded to the author. For example, if a member writes an article based on an idea from another member and is awarded 500 Brickpoints, the member who suggested the article will receive 100 Brickpoints! This is a great way to help the site and earn some Brickpoints on the way (you want to have as many as possible to post on the soon to arrive Classifieds, or to purchase a set on the BP Store), so start suggesting anytime! It's hard for me to keep track of everything and a simple private message stating that you got your blog idea from another person will help me divvy out the BrickPoints correctly."

  5. I'm going to say this only once : Do a S2S and you get the 14.59$ price. If you fail to do so, my dad ( who is staying with me) is visiting his sister in San Diego next week and I promise you they will be gone then .. You have a week. Click! Edit: it is a very easy set to sell for a small profit and it doesn't weigh a lot. Makes a perfect gift to a daughter/niece....

  6. I should have bought more than a few of these during BF sale. They came in smaller boxes too, which is nice for storage

  7. Your probably right, its just a tight flip to pay 65+ tax (in most places) $70ish total, to flip for $80 after fees. Especially when you would have had to buy it from the lego store so buying in bulk would likely be more difficult.

  10. Built the Silver Mine Shootout today. After I was done, my first thought was that if this set didn't have "Disney's The Lone Ranger" on it, investors would be hoarding it. It is a sweet western themed set that has so many cool play features. Great minifigures (Chief Big Bear is incredible) too - the set has everything. I did wind up doing my own modifications to allow the train to pass through. It's not as easy as I thought it would be, but I thought it came out decently. Here are a couple pics to show how it came out (yes, that's my son's "Bertie" minifigure that my wife requested at our local Legoland DC - we're supposed to bring Bertie on adventures and take his picture while on them).

  11. What other LEGO set can boast: Heroes in a half shell?

  12. I have little doubt of that, I`m referring to them probably not appearing to do quite as well in the primary market now. It`s the name combined with Lego that sells them, not the quality of the sets.

  13. Flipper vs. long term investor. This could be a great article. Needs some great data to make work. Do not attempt this piece unless you are willing to back it up with some quality numbers.

  14. Ok - new here but have reacquired the bug from my childhood days. Here is my first purchase: 31000 Creator Mini speeders on closeout for $3.14 each total w/tax (10 of those) 31001 Creator Mini skyflyers on closeout same price (8 of those) 41020 Friends Hedgehog Hideaway on closeout for $2.64 (just 1) small numbers but according to the dashboard I have a 160% increase! WOOT WOOT!

  15. I think it's a waste of time and assets. The market for graded lego is very very small. The reason people pay big bucks for retired lego sets is because they want to open them, build them, and then display that beautiful work of art on their coffee table, shelf, or work desk. Now I could see these people paying a little extra for a nice case to display their newly acquired prize possession in, but not for a box. Don't try to re-invent the wheel.

  18. Great job, I'm not sure if you saw my post about the roof. I reinforced the roof the same way with one addition. I added a 1x4 white flat tile to the rear above the truck opening. That really helps with that area. Link = http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/3628-vw-camper-on-amazon/page-2#entry133977

  19. I'll have to upload some pics of the storage unit next time I get out there...but here's some of the storage history... When I first started out, I was just stacking sets in a closet, on the floor, next to the bed, etc. That got old pretty quick, so I got a set of shelving from Home Depot...at this point my friends said I was crazy and had "taken it too far". They are a little under $40 or so per set. They are 36" wide x 18" deep. I like these because the normal "large' sets like HP Hogwarts, Helm's Deep, etc. will fit almost perfectly without the top shelf touching. I ultimately ended up with 7 sets of shelving in the house before I had to get a storage unit...now I have 5 sets of the shelving at home: Pardon the mess! I just moved a couple of months ago and am still getting my workspace setup, and some of the orderliness has gone out the window this month. Essentially I use the shelves at home to hold things that I'm going to list on eBay relatively soon...everything else goes to the storage unit. Eventually I'll have a work table setup in this room for packing, etc. I buy boxes from Uline in bulk in a range of sizes that match up well with the different set boxes that Lego puts out...for the big ones like Helm's Deep I do 24x16x4, for Winter Toy Shop 20x16x4 and so on. Bubblewrap comes from Amazon or eBay depending on who is cheaper, plus packing tape. I've got a cheap postal scale and use an old Zebra thermal label printer to print my Fedex/USPS labels on...I have a ton of free label rolls that UPS gave me a few years ago, so I still use those. Once you get to any kind of regular volume, standardizing packing materials saves a bunch of time. I used to stomp through the house trying to find a box to pack a set in, or cut a box down, etc. etc. With the standardized boxes, the packing becomes a no-brainer. It does require a little investment (Uline will ship free for orders over $250 or $300...they have a warehouse in my area tho so I can pick up for no charge), but the time savings is immense. I recycle packing materials when I can, but the purchased bubblewrap makes it a lot easier...I need to find a cheaper source since I use alot. The storage unit is a 10x10 in a climate controlled facility (basically just a big heated/cooled warehouse that they subdivided into individual spaces). I've got 10 shelving units lining the side and back walls, with a folding table set up for staging. I may need to put in a couple more shelving units as space got real tight after last year's Christmas clearances. I always unpack sets and don't store them in Amazon/TRU shipping boxes...too much air (makes for inefficient storage) and i like visually seeing the sets so that I can quickly pull some if my stock is running low at the house. I will usually make a trip at the start of the week out to the warehouse to unload/unpack new purchases and to bring home anything i intend to sell.

  21. Info on Planet 4 Series: Target Canada carries at least 75011 but has no inventory and they wouldn't say if they are getting more in. My local store had 3 in stock but couldn't find them. The ID number is 00010244522 and retails at 12.99. If you are in your local target, ask a staff member to look up the ID Number in his/her PDA and you might get lucky. See attachment.

  22. I found Sunshine Ranch at my Walmart for $70 yesterday. Snapped that one up. (Unlike the $90 I found at TRU the day before).

  23. Juice Bar at my TRU was $41.99. I bought 2 anyway to add to the 2 $9 Fierce Flyers that I got to reach the $100 to get the $25 off. Not sure if that was a smart move on my part...probably just brought the JB down to MSRP.

  24. Honestly, I would LOVE a Cruiseship theme more than anything. They could try to get a license from Royal Caribbean or even Disney (probably easier) and reproduce the ships!
