Yeah, I got my credit card statement...oh, boy...I got a little carried with the string of insane deals; especially those freebie sets that TRU and FAO bundled with exclusives...had to take a break. The problem with this site though is you can really never leave it; you're always wondering if you're missing a killer deal after being conditioned from this holiday season...2 points

A drop in prices after a re-release has always been normal - but the extreme drops that you see nowadays is due to mass dumping. If you watch the next big re-release announcement - you will see a big increase of the older models hitting the market at lower prices (before anyone even has a chance to buy the new ones).1 point

It's the market driving the prices down more than the sellers. If you're looking for a Sail Barge, Star Destroyer or what ever are you going to pay 3x retail for an older set? Or will you go grab one at Wally World for 1/3 the price? I totally agree with you about the superiority of 6210 over the refresh, but most consumers aren't going to see that.1 point

I have seen the old barges going for much cheaper now. I'm tempted to get one without the minifigs. The highlight of the new barge is Max Rebo for me.1 point

Ordered a Parisian restaurant shortly after midnight. Total cost after VIP points = $0. :)1 point

Some folks on Eurobricks have some pictures. ISD looks very similar to 6211. Cantina is only slightly larger than original, and has Dewback and Speeder like the original as well. Lots of figures are preliminary in that one, so no idea who will be in it, but they used Squidward as the stand-in, so look into that as you please. AT/AT looks like they are using the little missles on its head.1 point

Picked up Tower of Orthanc last night for $90 after VIP points and gift card. Going to take a few weeks to get here since half of their inventory is out of stock right now. Looking forward to that build.1 point

The remakes only have an effect on older sets that are inferior to the new ones. It in not the fact that LEGO has run out of ideas, they re-release the same sets every few years to cater to young fans that were recently introduced to STAR WARS. This cycle repeated and is obviously successful. My son is four years old and never saw a STAR WARS movie, but because of Angry Birds STAR WARS. he knows every character and what an AT-AT is. When he gets into LEGO sets in a year or two, he will want a new AT-AT or X-Wing. LEGO bases their set designs on what a 8-12 year old wants, not what a 30 year old reseller wants.1 point

The Arctic theme will look good with my winter village. And speaking of winter village, I wonder if the Bicycle Shop is for the winter village? The train stuff is interesting. I'd definitely start thinking of picking up the existing stuff soon.1 point

I bought these right after Christmas last year (2012) for 54 thinking I had scored HUGE. Only to see them last on shelves all of 2013 and go right back to clearance at 54 again after Christmas 2013. And with toys r us well stocked at 99.99 they won't see true price gains soon. Now I know not to invest in a set just because it's on 30% clearance. Especially if it's just 1 year old at the time. ....says the guy who pounced on some pirate ambush sets for 30% last week. I'll never learn.1 point

They all just look so hodge-podge and thrown together to me...I mean, I get the style I guess but it doesn't appeal to me. Reminds me of time cruisers and how scattered and unorganized those sets felt - I get the same feeling looking at these lego the movie sets. My son and I will still go see the movie, but I'm staying away from these sets...1 point

I'll have to upload some pics of the storage unit next time I get out there...but here's some of the storage history... When I first started out, I was just stacking sets in a closet, on the floor, next to the bed, etc. That got old pretty quick, so I got a set of shelving from Home Depot...at this point my friends said I was crazy and had "taken it too far". They are a little under $40 or so per set. They are 36" wide x 18" deep. I like these because the normal "large' sets like HP Hogwarts, Helm's Deep, etc. will fit almost perfectly without the top shelf touching. I ultimately ended up with 7 sets of shelving in the house before I had to get a storage unit...now I have 5 sets of the shelving at home: Pardon the mess! I just moved a couple of months ago and am still getting my workspace setup, and some of the orderliness has gone out the window this month. Essentially I use the shelves at home to hold things that I'm going to list on eBay relatively soon...everything else goes to the storage unit. Eventually I'll have a work table setup in this room for packing, etc. I buy boxes from Uline in bulk in a range of sizes that match up well with the different set boxes that Lego puts out...for the big ones like Helm's Deep I do 24x16x4, for Winter Toy Shop 20x16x4 and so on. Bubblewrap comes from Amazon or eBay depending on who is cheaper, plus packing tape. I've got a cheap postal scale and use an old Zebra thermal label printer to print my Fedex/USPS labels on...I have a ton of free label rolls that UPS gave me a few years ago, so I still use those. Once you get to any kind of regular volume, standardizing packing materials saves a bunch of time. I used to stomp through the house trying to find a box to pack a set in, or cut a box down, etc. etc. With the standardized boxes, the packing becomes a no-brainer. It does require a little investment (Uline will ship free for orders over $250 or $300...they have a warehouse in my area tho so I can pick up for no charge), but the time savings is immense. I recycle packing materials when I can, but the purchased bubblewrap makes it a lot easier...I need to find a cheaper source since I use alot. The storage unit is a 10x10 in a climate controlled facility (basically just a big heated/cooled warehouse that they subdivided into individual spaces). I've got 10 shelving units lining the side and back walls, with a folding table set up for staging. I may need to put in a couple more shelving units as space got real tight after last year's Christmas clearances. I always unpack sets and don't store them in Amazon/TRU shipping boxes...too much air (makes for inefficient storage) and i like visually seeing the sets so that I can quickly pull some if my stock is running low at the house. I will usually make a trip at the start of the week out to the warehouse to unload/unpack new purchases and to bring home anything i intend to sell.1 point

If you think it is a return it might be prudent to open it and verify the contents.or book a flight and have a tsa agent scan it ;)1 point

Thanks for pointing that out. I was wondering if they were ever going to make that. I saw it in the movie trailers and thought it would be cool to see it actually be in a Lego set.1 point

Does this advice come from that same S@H employee that told you WVC wasn't retiring, or is this strictly speculation?1 point

i honestly feel like buying used while in production is a good investment strategy. Less of an investment but possibly same ROI1 point

I, unfortunately, am a huge collector of Polybags. Can't explain exactly why, but I love em! I have over 150 unique Polybags from all themes. I typically don't even open and build them either, unless I get multiple copies of for cheap. I do sell the bulk though, and typically do pretty well (i.e. Zombie Car, Ghost & Clock, Thor, Bat-Ski, Christmas Train etc). Now, I have every Super Heroes Polybag EXCEPT for the RedBird Cycle. I almost bit on the first few I saw appear on eBay a while ago for $10-15, but figured they'd be flooding the market and I'd be able to get them at the usual $5ish range. Dumb mistake. Now, don't get me wrong, I certainly won't pay $60, or even $30 to get this polybag, even though I definitely "need" it for my collection. So, all that being said, I have no idea why or what type of person is paying so much for them??? The collector in me is obviously a bit bummed, but the investor thinks that's just dandy (even though I don't have any, but for the sake of the market in general, nah mean?) -PB1 point
