  1. The title of the thread is "Fire Brigade: Will it be discontinued soon?", but last 100 posts are about taxes, mexican borders, supraboy kids with or without lego, poor european customers....100 "update email" on my phone, no news about the FB....create another thread, please :-))

  2. Amazing. They scan your plate and ID at the border...both ways. They know how long your stay was and you don't get a personal exemption on stays less than 24 hours. Awesome that it is working for you...guess lego is exempt under nafta....maybe because some are partially made in Mexico. Great find! Probably better to keep this, and other, various tax cheats to yourself. Wouldn't boast about it for a couple reasons...competition is one, jealousy the other. I would do the same as you if it's that easy...but I guarantee this would not work at buffalo, niagra or stanstead/vt.

  3. Please explain why the previous 2 star wars calendars are not even going for retail price? I didn't see any posts in Oct/Nov stating buy these up right now because they are going to be limited.

  8. If 10179 and Cloud City are grand slam HRs in the 9th inning and this was baseball, this set along with the underrated Skiff and Rancor sets will be a 2-run HR in the 8th. In my opinion by using historic Jabba's Prize, Message, and Palace pricing info from the last 2 years, this set will be at least $230 within 2 years max after retirement, it is that strong despite the supply.

  9. It hasn't even officially retired. Give it time, it will increase in value.

  10. Space becomes an issue for me with front facing unit. I use the flat ones so I can stack them up. You can also adjust each compartments for the flat ones for more flexibility. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-17-Compartment-Storage-Box-SBR-18/204065029?MERCH=REC-_-product-1-_-204065028-_-204065029-_-******#

  11. Well sales in Mexico are really slow, but in holiday season you can sell pretty much all you have at incredible prices, specially if soy are selling sets not available here, or hot retired items. for example this season I sold Black Pearls at 300 USD and BTF DeLoreans at 85 usd...... On the other hand, you can find old retired sets new and sealed in the toy stores for about 30% over their US MSRP.... that's how I got some 3 HP Hogwarts castles and 6 HP Burrows and my crown Jewel...... 12. I have read your post like 6 times and still don't understand your point. I am not crucifying you at all. I just was saying everyone in every country avoids taxes - but Americans take the most flack for it. I said I didn't care who was doing it.

  13. There is no doubt in my mind this thing will take off once it has been cleared completely from the shelves. I have two of them, one to sell and one to keep. I was going to sell both but I cannot stand the look of the new Jabba's Sail Barge. I decided to hold onto Jabba's Palace instead.

  14. I think it's a one year hold, DNIIM. When next year's Friends calendar goes out of retail availability, list it for big $.

  15. Definitely agree - I saw these everywhere. What made it different than the last one? I am afraid you are absolutely wrong here bug. The one last year had the same type of stuff - I have all the figures from both and these aren't any better - except maybe the boy boba fett. You obviously didn't see the last set of these sitting in stores (still) for months and months. And by the way, I can name plenty of star wars with short production runs and exclusive figures that didn't do well. They make about 100 million a year so these happen. On top of that, you still don't know what this set will do in the future. The advent calendars are going to keep appealing to people? I don't know. I know you like saying "I told you so", but I am afraid you aren't some investing sage here - you got lucky. Which is good for you - we all do sometimes. But calling this obvious and being disrespectful to others because they missed out is petty.

  16. Sort of in this direction, it is really funny the disdain show towards americans becuase of "cheating" on taxes sometimes. But I have about 5 international people a week asking me to cheat on the import/export forms. In reality, I don't care about either of them. But I think its kind of silly for any of us to point out someone else doing something wrong with their taxes (You weren't doing this - you were pointing out a contradiction - which was funny ) when everyone is as well. I doubt anyone here is reporting all of their personal purchases on Amazon (for those of us with no tax).

  17. Here is my experience last year. I hit as many Walmarts as I could the 2 days after Christmas. Things seemed to go fast. I moved to more rural Walmart stores after the first couple days because it got tougher to find clearance items. Each Walmart had different items on clearance and different prices. Most clearance items seemed to be 25-30%. Most Walmart stores put their clearance toys in the garden area where the Christmas stuff is now. Target seemed to put things on clearance a little later. Maybe a week after Christmas. Things were moved to a clearance area and marked down slightly. Then each week what was left got marked down further. Meijer takes their time and barely marks things down. Like Target things get marked down further the longer they sit. I would say I found clearance items here and there for about 3-4 weeks after Christmas but it definitely got more difficult as the weeks went on. This year seems like it will be different though. The items that should be going to clearance after Christmas are already gone just about everywhere I go. My plan is to spend the 26th searching Walmart stores and the occasional Target and Meijer when I am in the area. If I have luck then I will keep searching in the weeks after but if not I plan to just stick to online sales.

  18. I am so sorry for everything that happened. This is one nightmare everybody dreads coming home to see. I wish I could offer something besides measly condolences. I hope some serious justice meets the crooks responsible like a certain metal object passing through their skull. You continue to be the most tastefully tactful person I know.

  20. That is similar to what I do. So far, all I have is all the bricks separated by color and I have the printed pieces in a separate pile. Works for me. I am planning to sort it even more over the holidays, but that may not happen. Darn school work gets in the way of ALL my plans.

  23. It's great for a little collection, too, if you're a cheapskate like me. I keep our couple thousand prototype parts in the same kind of system (separate from our inventory, of course), just scaled down to a few boxes rather than dozens. Not to say people shouldn't spend whatever they wish on sorting and storage systems, just that it's not a necessity if you would rather not hand over the cash.

  24. Do I wish that I could've picked these up for my kids? Yes. Did anybody know they would be in short supply (our point)? Nope. Sorry, not even you. Any by the way, I don't think this year's was actually as attractive as previous years.

I cant, buy or replace my Lego, or the damage done to my home. I won't be using the forums much anymore. Thanks to the bosses, admins, users. Its been fun. Stomping

  28. Yeah, I call bs on people saying we should have seen this coming. Last year sets were discounted heavily before Christmas too. There were no indications that Lego was going to produce these in short supply.

  29. Teach them!!!.. Ok kids, when you are transporting legos across the border to resale make sure you tell the border security that they are for your kids.

  30. Quick rundown: Architecture - targeted toward AFOLs (that have investment $). Two sets are officially retired and have great ROIs from MSRP: 21001 John Hancock and 21016 Sungnyemun. Both had lower production runs than most other Architecture sets, so that also may factor into their appreciation. The Amazon sellers went crazy selling Architecture sets for double and triple MSRP this holiday season, so there's gotta be some demand for these sets. There is a Frank Lloyd Wright subtheme that some people speculate will take off after retirement since FLW has great name recognition among non-Architects, and a couple of these sets may retire this cycle. Technic - Sets usually do well post-EOL, but there haven't been any Market Street or Cafe Corner blow out winners. Since 2005, average ROI of a Technic set is 107%. Technic fans tend to like the construction vehicles, especially cranes. Read my two blog entries for more info here and here. The first reviews retired sets and the second estimates ROI of current sets based on a linear regression model.

  32. The stupid got thick in here fast. Greedy capitalist bastards! Now where are those coupons so I can go get 4 more architectural studios. That's the problem with you folks...you forget there is always someone poorer than you, when you rant against the rich and successful. I can take you into some areas of providence or Boston where you are the greedy bastard running around trying to corner the lego architectural studio market. You'll get your teeth knocked in if they see you walking down the street with $400 in legos. Even if you carry a Romney/Bain sucks sign. Still can't believe so many find this site, and complain about capitalism and rich people. Most of us here respect the successful, and want to join them...not despise them. Greed and jealousy are close cousins. Are you a better person because you don't use lbo to load companies with debt, try to ipo them after a turn around, or break them out to creditors? You are working harder than Romney? By buying up lego sets before Christmas, so parents need to get their gifts from you at huge mark ups instead of the store for retail price? Are you more noble than venture capital, than private equity? Take your jealousy elsewhere please. We are all greedy here, and want to make the most money for the least amount of work/risk. Willy<-greedy and wants to be like Romney Private equity bought kb fao, and tru for a reason. They were for sale. Why..because they were going bankrupt ANYWAY! And the stupid comes out when you bring up Romney's name. He left Bain ****** 2001. Bain was EQUAL partners with kkr and vornado when they bought these 3 stores... In 2005.

  33. Anyone remember KB Toys? I am not an expert by any stretch, but the one common theme to me between KB and TRU is Bain. Never had any intention of helping them to succeed. Capitalism at its finest. Greedy bastards. I mention this all the time to the managers at my store. Of course, they all had no idea.

  34. Not too interested in the Lego Movie figures for Series 12, but I do like Abe, Shakespeare, the girl in the front row with the colorful hair, and the cop(for the helmet). Too many of these are almost exact copies of others we've already had, like Taco Tuesday guy, Mermaid, Grandma. And who wants more construction workers? I'll probably end up getting most, if not all, since we're kind of collecting these figures, but it will be hard to swallow paying for some of these. Overall, this is a middling Series.
