  1. Knowing my wife, I can expect my luggage out on the front door with a note that has references to good divorce attorneys. Since I did the same for thanksgiving and she was pissed.

  2. I'm not expecting much this year on the after x-mas clearance sales at Target and Walmart. The inventory that I would have expected to be marked down has largely already been sold and replaced with new sets. There may be some deals to be had, but I think it is going to be pretty slim pickings. This time last year, there were multiple stores around me that were well stocked with the retiring Star Wars sets...this year, I have hardly seen any of the retiring Star Wars sets over the past few weeks. My sense is that the stores are getting much better with their inventory and product management so that they don't have much left to clearance after x-mas.

  3. I'm not even worried about this year. I have a closet full of stuff to get rid of before I need to think of bringing more in.

  5. Why are we comparing the one Star Wars UCS set with the shortest retail life ever with a firehouse that was sold for 4 1/4 years. In fact, not many "hard to find" sets in the past 4 years have been around for only 13 months. If anything, 5/4/13's $99 Sale at Lego.com and toysrus.com will only help 10227's demand because it was such a historic sale. Before that date, no one was talking about 10227 except it was a nice looking set without a minifig at high retail price. Thus, people (including myself) wouldnt buy it. For those who haven't built one or seen one on display (I mean, a really good look), you missed out. 10227 is one of the better USC sets (and I've built a few). I still think last year's 10212 EOL'd Imperial Shuttle is a better overall set (looks and ROI due to it's popularity with SW fans). This set also had a retail price that was prob $25 to $50 too high, it was also discounted many times over 10%. Avg amazon price was about $235 (vs $260 retail) if we eliminate the insane $180 sale. I think we should be comparing 10227 with other recent UCS sets. I would prob stray away from Obi-Wan's ship since that never had interest (ugh, prequels stuff). I'll be very happy if the B-Wing performed like 10212. Regardless, I'm enjoying the ride and see empty long highway roads ahead for my 6-speed manual. Up shifting now my friends.

  6. Thats generalizing - I have plenty of other themed lego sets, including a modular and a TB. Your same argument can be applied for someone who doesn't care as much about modular and city because I go and see that stuff outside my house everyday. I dont remember the last time I walked down the street and saw a B-wing, or the Tower of Orthanc, or Hogwarts

  7. I expect Epic Dragon Battle, Sonic Raider, and Jabba's Palace to go. Some might see the Rancor Pit at 50% off as well. Some of the smaller Star Wars sets will go, along with last year's Galaxy Squad. The Police Station will be half off, where you can still find them.

  9. Most retiring sets never see the "Retiring Soon" label. Some on the site have guessed the "Retiring Soon" is a tool TLG uses to move sets that aren't selling well that they need to get off their warehouse shelves.

  10. You have no idea what people pay for hulk figures or collectibles. No more brown pants can lead to $200 per figure. I paid $800USD for a CGC Hulk vs Wolverine comic book and it was only 8.5 graded. This was just 3 years ago. You can't even lay a finger on a 6.0 graded at $800USD today. With this figure, we are talking about the now, in 5 yrs, how many will be telling themselves "I should've held onto that brown pants, can't find it anywhere!"

  11. That's the least of your problems. Your SSD is giving a colonoscopy to that AT-AT.

  12. The purple pants is overrated, once people get sick of seeing the purple pants, they'll want something different again. That means your brown pants will be skyrocketing. They've only made so many brown pants, they don't grow on trees. The purple pants will be "new" and readily available at blowout prices, the old brown ones, what if they never re-issue these again? It's all speculation, but I'd hold at least 2 sets of these. The cool thing is that you still have Loki, Thor and Hawkeye to dispose of. I'm sure the latter three will remain the same in future sets, but not the Hulk. Adios to the brown pants, then it's going to be "I got the brown pants, you ain't got it" bragging rights.

  14. I have built it and the train looks great under the xmas tree (minus the gun and prison cars). The Emerald Night is a bit big and a bit "too serious" for this use. The Constitution and the Toy Story trains have the right amount of whimsicality and fit the bill. Btw, I'm saying this not having watched the movie, and I don't care to.

  17. Bought a Galactic Titan with a $50 GC I got for an early Christmas present. With Target discounted price to $70, I paid only $20 for a set that I had sold out of in my eBay store. That last one going out the door made me really want to build one badly, so I sprung for one last night. I can't wait to crack that baby open - I'm like a kid on Christmas! I suppose that's the benefit of being an adult - you make the rules for when Christmas comes

  23. I wouldn't do this unless you want one to build. How high can a set as stockpiled as this go? How long before people waiting to dump it go ahead?

  29. Just picked up 4 fire planes from target online. After sale price, bogo, redcard discount, and tax they came to $21 each. Nearly 50% off. Great deal. As usual, I made sure to click the link!

  31. Ah, the Knights Kingdom action figures. Trippy and rather poseable but not the most pleasant of designs to look upon. Did have a few interesting parts though. Yes, the heads were weird but that's how Lego rolls! :)

  32. This is true - he did say he thought people should use some restraint. I tend to agree - the problem is, where do we define the line. I don't really know how the question is answered. So my answer usually is - what do I feel comfortable with. I don't feel comfortable in circumventing purchasing limits. But if they will allow you to buy 50, why not?

  33. I will say - I don't feel great about clearing the shelf and normally don't do it. But I don't think there is some terrible thing wrong with it. I think there are enough arguments in the other direction. The only thing I am really more against are preorder - exclusive type things. If there is a limit of 1 and you purposefully find a way around it and get more of this limited edition item first time it is out. But in reality, I am not looking down on anyone for it. More just don't do it myself. Unfortunately, with an Ebay business now, I know you have to not care about these things unless you want to be out of business. Lol
