  5. I hate it when the book is nothing like the movie.

  6. And you can get multiples....(different orders). We will be performing our rendition of goldibricks and the 3 bears in a couple days, and dropping off 2 at the toy drive to help poor kids with unproductive parents.

  7. http://search-en.lego.com/?q=9474&cc=US Hopefully this quells some of the suspicions - assuming they don't become unretired. Also, the MF set going retired may put to bed the whole TRU keeping them for another year thing. Maybe - still yet to be seen.

  9. As Harry Kalas said so many times, "IT'S OUTTA HERE!" Now I don't feel so bad anymore with 17 of them taking up so much space in my basement.

  10. I've hesitated to weigh in on the most recent discussion, since I am parting out differently from most folks participating (and differently from the question asked about parting out to keep the minifigs and defray some of the costs by selling the rest of the kit in one lump listing on eBay), BUT... ... I will just say, for anyone who might be lurking and wondering about parting out items, that if you are interested in building a slower-growth long-term business, our own model of parting out kits to sell the minifigs on eBay (and occasionally a vehicle or other desirable piece) and then building our parts store on Bricklink for "free" (with sweat equity) continues to work well for us. It's a larger time commitment than selling figs and large segments of kits, and it requires a more detailed filing system, but I'm finding it very rewarding and our Bricklink store continues to grow pretty much with free parts, slowly but surely. Just another option and another way to build a Lego business. With most aspects of Lego, we're all looking at being the tortoise rather than the hare - whether it's buying and holding sets for 1 to 3 (or more) years after EOL, or building an eBay or Bricklink store "piece by piece" (ha ha). Folks who can flip sets for fast cash are the exception, but it's not a business model I've ever been terribly good at (on a large scale, anyway), so I do my plodder thing and still make it work.

  11. Get a better phone with good data plan so you can open the site in "Full Mode" all the time.

  12. So I was on the forums today and there were some discussions about certain sets being retired and I looked at the B-wing and it is now retired. Here is a link from LEGO Shop at Home. Looks like a lot of sets retired today.

  14. I am going to write one eventually. Its rough though. You have to really really be ready for the time commitment it is. Thats the one thing I really underestimated. For example, last two nights I was up until 4:30AM (I work at 8AM-6PM) packing stuff up. Today, I need to leave town at 6PM, but I have to spend 2-3 hours getting stuff ready before I go. profit margins on parting stuff out are pretty small unless you get really good discounts as well. Its not as easy as pick up a set and part it out. You have to have ceilings from where you buy. I can only think of two sets you can get for 10% off or less and make money parting them out (excluding exclusives). You also have to be prepared for stuff to sit. it doesn't fly out once you list it. Can you make money? Absolutely. is it worth it? Depends. I probably make 5$ an hour for the stuff I part out. Most people wouldn't do it for that. i think its fun and I like owning a business, so that fufills me.

  16. I haven't seen anything special yet. But I do know all Galaxy Squad sets are 50% off at Target Canada right now. Someone mentioned it yesterday in the daily deals thread. I went to check it out last night. None of the sets had sales signs, but ALL sets scanned at 50% off. This will be chain wide.

  19. Another from the same group of sculptors and friends of Richard Hernandez (darkwax on deviantart) that collaborated to create the Gollum in the other thread, here's little Dobby from the Harry Potter films. I not even gonna bother saying how absolutely amazing it is, the art speaks for itself quite clearly.

  21. Thanks to the creation of the Creator Expert line. Otherwise City was the closest to anything similar seeing how the original modulars never had a theme (except Market Street). I can see many peoples varying points but I don't believe how Fire Brigade performs in the afterlife will be the perfect litmus test for all modular sets afterwards. For one thing, every modular design is different and everyone has their favorite(s). Some like the Fire Brigade, others enjoy Pet Shop. So I do not see each one performing exactly as the previous when retired; more like within close proximity of one another. In the end, it really is a matter of which modular house is the more desired design. With that said and despite being one of my least favorite modulars, Fire Brigade still is a nice one with nifty techniques used throughout. It isn't anywhere near the Green Grocer but should be a good gainer when finally retired all the same. I honestly expect Grand Emporium to perform better when the time comes. Well, there's my $0.02.

  26. Today I bought my first minifigs. I bought 5 and guessed them all. So all of the tips here helped! I thought it would be harder to guess what's in the package, but it's quite easy. Or at least for the one's I got! But it does take a lot of time to get used to 2 from series 9 and 3 from series 10. Unfortunately there were no series 11.

  27. DoNotInsert is right Sad, you're not factoring in the size of their corporation and the clear lack of communication and consistency down the chain. Some stores were honoring the 15% while others weren't. Some stores had a 2 41999 limit, while mine had a 1 41999 limit. Some here have been banned for going over limits, others haven't gone over limits but still been banned. Some receive a ban email, other don't receive any communication or explanation. Some can't log in to their accounts after being banned, but some still can. Some get their points taken away, others don't. It doesn't sound like they have a functioning system in place at any level or in any department. The only consistency I see is poor logic going hand in hand with those who take joy in the pain of others

  32. A religious group complained that it resembled one of their famous mosques so to appease that group (so it seemed) they agreed to end the sets production this year. Some of our very knowledgeable members here have said that it was set to end at the end of the year regardless. Lego used to be very reliable when it came to 2 year production run all most all sets, that has since changed. Depending on how much stock they produced, this set could be gone by December or available a few months into the new year, all depends.

  33. Thanks for posting this guide! I went back to TRU and found exactly what I was looking for. It definitely gets tedious, but it can also be fun to find the figures "in the wild" instead of just caving and buying the one you want online (like I almost did). I was concerned the employees might look at me funny, but they didn't. One wished me luck. Another commiserated with me about "the things we go through for our kids..." Ha! If only she knew, lol.
