  1. You should forward this post in an email to Target corprate and see what they have to say. Actually you should just go back with both sets and ask for a full refund at the inflated store price ($10.65 x 2) and see if they do it. If they say no way, then ask them in what line of logic does it take to make you pay the extra money when doing a straight exchange if they cannot refund you the same amount for a return.

  2. I think from time to time, we all need to ask ourselves, "What would Willy do?" Sure, it might occasionally involve imprisonment, deportation, and sudden mutation into one of the X-Men, but what's life without a little risk?!

  3. Was it because they sang "I like to move it move it" over and over while answering your call ?

  4. No additional units over 20,000 have been produced. Everyone just assumed that the initial wave of shipments was all 20,000 units. This was not the case.

  5. No, I think he is shorting them in some kind of Euro-reverse psychology move.

  8. I am confused. Did Mark get banned? If so that seems insane to me. He literally just joined today. A ton of people on this very site asked him to join and have been dealing with him. He probably assumed he should ask about selling and stuff here based on that. Talk about being a horrible neighbor if that's what just happened. The guy who is clearly a big time Lego investor is now banned from the Lego investing board? I don't get it. Maybe you guys are referring to someone else and if so that's cool. If it's Mark I really think this could have been handled better.

  9. I actually had a friend that was a loss prevention guy at Target. They fired him because he was too lazy. They must have a shoplifter busting quota. Scuse me ma'am but did you just stick some panties in your purse?

  12. Again, there is a big difference between being produced and being distributed. They could produce 20,000 copies period and distribute only 5000 over 4 quarters.

  13. No I can speak for you as well (and have) that you are a great buyer. So everyone is speculating (as we love to do). How about it: Are you banking on this set to be worth huge money in the coming years?

  20. I really hope he does have control of the secondary market. At this point, the more he gets the better. We generally know what he paid for them (twice our cost) and with the number that he has, he can't just dump them at a lower price without a very significant overall loss. If he sets the price up and the market follows, then we can ride the wave with him, assuming you have kept some for yourself. To hedge, I have sold enough so my remaining sets are "free" so whatever happens, I really can't lose money. You are only at risk if you are buying them for the current market price of $400.

  21. Basically...this. I really don't care about Mark and people trying to illegally avoid taxes. This is business between Mark and another party and has nothing to do with this site. If people want to discuss gaming the system, go to another site.

  22. You're selling them too early. Hold them for a few months to make sure that the Lego stores have sold all they have in stock and then cash in around Christmas.

  25. You have a good point here. We didn't get two years of LEGO advertising the crap out of these. They might actually have done better in the after market if there had been 50,000 for sale, distributed over the course of a year. One other thing to consider is the effect of YouTube (and similar social mediums) on the after market. When I came out of my dark ages I first discovered a lot of retired sets by stumbling on videos about them. There are a lot of 9398 vs 41999 videos and I wish The Brick Show would review the set (they've reviewed other Technic sets). These videos will help with on-going exposure and may spawn additional sales down the road. On that, if anyone has an opened set, please consider letting The Brick Show borrow it long enough to do a review of it. Especially if you have the box. That would be excellent on-going exposure for this set.

  26. Thanks for reminding me of that Ebay picture from a few weeks ago. The one with the dead stinkbug in the Lego house. I thought I was over it. I really did. I even bought a minifigure from Ebay tonight, but now I want to cancel the shipment. Anyway, back to the regularly scheduled broadcast.

  28. I still say the Haunted House will be worth more than the Crawler a year after the Haunted House Retires and its $20 cheaper, There are about 80% of Lego fans have or will buy the Haunted House, as the 40% People buying and selling Crawlers are mostly people like us. The HH is one set you don't want to miss the boat on. Even at $180 it should rise to $400 and climbing. Why would anybody thing the HH and VC will not bring in the big bugs. so I have 60 HH, say $200 profit on each one, $12,000 profit, plus all the other great sets I have and all the Exclusives that are still to buy, all should be retired in 1-5 year, and then there will be 40 more, but with I will have I will be living on Wall Street. So Buy Those Exclusives and hard to Find Sets!!!!!!!!!!! Ed

  29. I'd show the exact picture of the exact item and put a note in the listing that the box is the design sold "in the UK" or "in France" or wherever you purchased it, and that the contents within box box designs are identical. I wouldn't worry that they'll think you're selling counterfeits, but I would mention it just on the off chance they care a tiny bit. I would absolutely not use a stock photo, especially if the stock photo shows the alternate box design - you always want WYSIWYG on eBay.

  31. So I cant help but wonder why Mark is stockpiling so many crawlers. Here's a few ideas floating around in my head: 6. After a lifetime of searching, hes finally found a way to get into the Guiness Book of World Records. 5. He's looking for the crawler with license plate number 763, because thats his favorite number. 4. He was the runner up in the contest to create the limited edition model, and he just hasn't gotten over the loss. He wants to wipe them off the face of the earth. 3. He has a terrible case of OCD. 2. He has a diabolical plan to take over the world and the crawlers (after some modification) will be his army. 1. He's really Santa Clause and hes gathering crawlers to give out to all the good kids on Christmas. (The not so good kids get mega blox) Or, I guess its could just be a plain old investment strategy. But wouldnt it be cool if he really was Santa????

  32. I invited him but he has not joined that I know of. My dad had one until like 1997 when he upgraded. Lol. Or people just interested that someone is putting so much money into one thing like this. I don't understand how people interested in the guy are somehow "inexperienced or "easily amazed". Name someone else you know that spent 500K on one lego set. He owns over 2% of the total number of this set - it is absolutely on topic. Furthermore, there are many teenagers (Comicblast) and people struggling through college (FCBarcelona, although struggling may be only applied to schoolwork) who know what they are doing.

  38. Thanks emazers, love your posts, always like the info you share. On the topic of box sizes, do you use bubble wrap around your sets? I use 1/2" bubble wrap around the entire set and I order from a local box company similar to ULINE. ULINE has free S&**** for orders over $300 which is helpful if you can get over that amount to qualify. The company I use is happy to match that free S&**** offer. Same as you, I try to minimize the box sizes I use to ship various sets to keep things as simple as possible and to be able to take advantage of those 25+ required box bundles. I use a spreadsheet to track length, width and height and then try to fit as many sets into one size as reasonably possible. Looks like this basically:

  39. Today I bought 7 TB for EUR 149 each. I was informed by Harrods in London that they will or cannot restock the TB item. This could be an EOL indication. Could also be just a misinformed employee ofcourse, you never really know with this kind of info. Still, EUR 149 is a really good price and large MiB sets are never a bad investment.
