This pertains to a few posts back, but sometimes I wonder how many guys here are just plain full of sh*t. I can think of at least one who seems to be having trouble controlling the constant spew coming forth from his mouth. Usually it's better to let it slide but when someone makes so much effort to get noticed, it gets a bit annoying. I have a 5 yr old who doesn't need attention like this guy. Make it stop.3 points

I think it's crazy to drive around all day waste 30 -50 bucks in gas plus food for oneself and said girlfriend .. Depending on how hungry you guys are drivin around all day..plus all the extra little items she may or may not have picked up.. To make 120-150 profit on a set that will never be made again...(regardless of what anyone thinks). Wow brilliant... Uhmmm.. Just wait 4 years from now when these sets hit 1200 each..because they will im sure myself and all the hardcore longterm wiser investors will be laughing all the way to the bank.. There's a reason someone is buying them up at 375-400 each.2 points

"Who's getting all the LEGO?" Some possible answers: 1. My grandmother. She can't talk anymore and she uses the lego bricks to spell out, "I need to go pee" to the nursing home staff. 2. My dog. He just loves to chew them to bits. 3. My seventy three children. Okay, they're not really all MINE - I share them with my sister-wives. 4. They're for me. My therapist says I can go off the meds soon because the Lego therapy's working so good. (Get wild-eyed look and put your face really close to the Lego employee's): Don't tell him, I stopped taking the meds days ago!!! 5. My cat told me you'd ask that. 6. Well, I WAS buying them for YOU, but now you've screwed up the surprise. Thanks a lot.2 points

Coming from you thats pretty funny since most people have questioned your views. Actually if you look back, the coupon says (Mine was a different one than the magazine one) that it "does not work on certain items" and "employees reserve the right to deny a set". I ASSUMED that meant exclusives, but if an employee was going to let me that was following the exact rules on coupon. If Lego cares enough, they should spell it out on the coupon - especially since "exclusive" is a load of sh#t anyway because these are all sold other places. It should say 10XXX, or not valid on these items. Its their ambiguity causing this, not mine. If you would like to start questioning morals though, I would be happy to go back and quote you several times on other issues where you clearly paw the lines of decency and sanity.2 points

You probably shouldn't be on the internet then. I mean really - I don't understand how people get upset about things getting off topic and whatever else. The moderators do their job and take care fo things if it gets too out of hard, but its called freedom of speech and you aren't going to get everything specifically tailored to you in every thread. I actually have enjoyed this thread and follow it because I like to see people's different opinions on what they do with a set so I pick up flipping and investing techniques and info. Just because you don't benefit from something doesn't mean its trash. Wait... People exaggerate on the internet? Pics or it didn't happen.1 point

Unfortunately, not everyone(myself included) has your access to reacquire new 41999 sets. If you are an investor with 2 or 3, flipping for a couple of hundred dollars is a waste IMO. Many of us do not have access to multiple LEGO stores, or even one LEGO store. Many LEGO stores either don't have them or have very limited stock. From reading this thread, it would seem like they are plentiful, but I think there is some internet exaggeration at play.1 point

Although it seems to be leveling off some, this thread was really deteriorating for a bit there. I mean really? arguing about flipping vs. investing? Hasn't that been beaten to death already? Should we also complain about TRU's high prices, argue about the Lego bubble bursting, call megabloks evil, compare Legos' to baseball cards and beanie babies, complain about the death star never dying, and argue about whether or not Han shot first? (did I leave anything out) I, for one, am thankful for all the useful information from this thread as I've been able to purchase a few of this great set, which I never would've been able to do without BP. I'd just prefer if the thread stayed primarily on topic, which is to say I think everyone wants to know when/where to get these exclusive crawlers and people's thoughts on this specific set.1 point

Here is my thought on how the Helm's Deep will do a year or two down the road, and if you got your's pretty cheap say $80-100 well that makes it better, And it looks like alot of us has gotten some cheaper than that, but since you can still get them pretty cheap making seems like next year and beyond they should do very well, so get them while you can, But most likely there will be people who will miss the boat on these to.So for me to have 58 of these I am 100% confident these will make me some good money. Why not a bit of both? My plan was to load up, sell, wait for restock, then buy a few more for holding long term.1 point

Lord of The Rings has been around for decades and been super popular among young men for generations. It is the second highest selling novel of all time. The movies aren't what made LOTR popular. Teenage boys will continue to read this book for generations. There WILL always be a large demand for LOTR stuff...always...1 point

Its just that they were sold out faster than expected by LEGO... thats why they aren o longer available... they EOLed long ago in factories1 point

I don't think there's any way to prove that one method of investing is better than the other, given that a lot of cash that is made is reinvested back into other sets, which may perform almost as well as this set will. We are all just speculating here. And to the poster who suggests calculating time and effort placed into LEGO investing, I say that this is just a hobby for some of us. It's fun to turn a profit and be able to pay for the hobby itself. I enjoy deal hunting and predicting which sets may do well in the future, but there is absolutely no way I could make the kind of cash I make in my real job when I start calculating hourly pay. Doing that takes the fun away from this hobby.1 point

This happens with every set. "Wait, you mean I can't double my money on something I can still buy in the store? WTF?!?" Patience.1 point

I bought one from the first wave and built it before flipping/investing any, and it's a really slick Technic set. There's a reason there's a lot demand for this set - it's freakin awesome! Fun build, great looks, awesome 70s design that's never been done, great color scheme (including the sweet white stripe), and tons of Power Functions. It drives well, too - very sturdy. The only downside is it isn't very fast, but anyone wishing to build it can modify the gear ratio fairly easily. The exclusive license plate number is like icing on the sundae - makes you feel like you truly have a limited edition. Even the box is awesome - I think TLC hit a homerun with this one. EDIT - the tires even have a slight whitewall to them! Another great detail that's easily overlooked.1 point

I think your future value for HD is spot on. It doesn't have the number of recognizable character minifigures that HP does, but it's still an iconic part of the movie and the largest set of the first wave of LOTR. I continue to be impressed by the performance of HP sets. They're simply amazing and in serious demand by buyers. I think we need to let the 2013 holiday season clear out the remaining online retailer inventories before the serious HD gains begin. nolanfan - keep the faith!1 point

I'm not sure I see more or less work either way. In each case, you need to procure the set, and ship the set. It should take the same amount of time to drive to the store, buy it, list it, package it, label it and drop it off at the post office now as it will in three years. The only real cost difference is storage if you pay for it. I suppose you can include some opportunity cost if you're storage is "free" but that's nearly impossible to quantify. The only difference is with investing, you're delaying half the work to a much later date.1 point

Can someone name just ONE Lego set that has doubled $$ BEFORE retirement? Actually, 2 weeks after it was released. And Please don't say Minecraft. Do you guys need to look further into this FACT to recognize the Obvious?1 point

What flippers do not take into account though is time or even potential gas they spend for acquiring all those sets they flip... assuming they get them in stores etc.... Also all the extra times for printing packaging and so on and on.... I never seen a flipepd calculating his time for each flip they make and see how much is he making per hour... all do it per unit sold which , imo is wrong...1 point

You're right. That was a fun however odd random trip through the world wide web.1 point

I knew a guy that had about 7 falcons first editions . I don't think he drove around all day with his girlfriend to get them. To make a long story short , he saw dollar signs when the set was selling for 700. Needless to say he flipped them. Told me this story as he handed me his last crawler .. I traded him 500 bucks in sets to make this my 15 crawler. Only 15 more to go. I plan on turning my crawlers into a 2017 Audi s51 point

Yes, these quick flippers are thinking that the ceiling is too low for this set. Many have already lost money by selling so soon. Just waiting till December would have doubled their profit. Silly people.1 point

If you go to "My eBay", next to transaction #1 click "print shipping label" (you won't have to actually purchase postage during this process) and then click "print packing slip" from the label printing page, it will show you all the charges your buyer incurred. The fellow in Taiwan should be able to see the ESTIMATED charges on the eBay page he's looking at, if he has his shipping address set to Taiwan. You can quote that ESTIMATE to him by going to your own item's page, and changing your location under shipping to Taiwan instead of the U.S. But if you do this, tell him this is EBAY'S ESTIMATE and neither he nor you will know the entire amount until he proceeds to checkout (and he can still change his mind at that point and not purchase if the estimate is off by too much. There is no GSP shipping calculator I'm aware of, other than the one embedded in each listing that provides the estimate. The estimates are usually very close if not exact, in my experience.1 point

Next year is really going to be a boost for TMNT. They will have their new additions to their "Classics" modern toy line They will be into wave 2 of their reissue line They will have Season 2 of their super popular cartoon. And the most important is they will have a live action movie in 2014. Now love it or hate it, it will launch TMNT into a whole new spectrum. Transformers was in the same boat, they were POPULAR, but when the 2007 Micheal Bay movie came out (again LOVE IT or HATE IT), it did amazing, made Transformers even more mainstream then it already was and toy sales for the vintage and new alike sky rocketed.1 point

I can top that...went to a TRU yesterday and an employee had written the type on every bag in permanent marker! The other one said "oh wasn't that nice of her?" And I thought, "she wasn't doing it for charity." I was going to hit up some local big box but Ed is right. Probably a waste of time.1 point

Wow, that`s wrong on so many levels. It`s unfair yes, but it`s also false advertising depending on how you look at it. The boxes state packs may contain a Mr. Gold. If they have been searched and looted, at will not sure the packs likely didn`t have one to begin with, but to place the possibility in the consumer`s mind knowing full well they will get nothing is wrong IMO. This is disgusting and very unfortunate. I suspect my local Walmarts have done the same thing though, because out of 7 boxes during my recent trip, I only found 15 Roman soldiers. I should have found 40ish at 6 per box. There were others missing too. Unless someone got a head start, which is possible, and I can`t say for sure. I hate TRU, but sadly up here I don`t have any other options for sets when sales come. Yes a 20% off promotion only gets me 10-15% off in reality, but there is nothing else available and my business goes there.1 point
