  2. Where to start... I just recently rediscovered my love for Legos. Growing up I've always had some form of lego sets. Back in the early 2000s was my hayday in lego building. I had an original UCS Rebel Blockade Runner, X-Wing fighter, and Imperial Star Destroyer. Every set had it's original box and instruction set. Then I joined the Air Force and forgot all about them. My mom called me up a few years later asking what she wanted me to do with them all. I said just give them away. Oh how little did I know then... Flash forward to a couple of weeks ago, and I'm in Salt Lake City and noticed a new Lego store. Oh boy!!! What excitement that was. I bought the new X-Wing UCS and put it together that night. Then...came another 7 sets with over 15K pieces, and most likely tomorrow I will be out buying another 2 sets adding an additional 4K+ to my count. And as with most everyone else, I stumbled upon this little gem of a site and that's pretty much that. Anyways, I look forward to getting to know some of you guys. ~Tony

  3. Joined awhile back but finally getting my boots on reading articles and forum discussions. Legos have become the answer to my mid-life crisis... LOL. Cheaper than a brand new sports car or boat! Having fun building and investing at the same time.

  4. Geez justafrog, you do not have to be that logical. Of course it is the buyers' fault for not sending the following text with EVERY single purchase they make on eBay: "PACK ITEM IN THICK CARDBOARD BOX OR FACE MY WRATH MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!" DNIIM, I would open case since seller asked for it. Just be wary of seller retaliation

  5. Well if they do remake the UCS Falcon on the same scale as 10179 you are looking at a $700 RRP. In short it is never going to happen. UCS sets are getting smaller, not larger, as the $400 price point continues to fail for TLG. Most likely they will replace 7965 with another medium scaled Falcon based on the new movie with some new minifigs and sell it for $149.

  6. Unfortunately, he seems to be serious since he's posted basically the same in both threads. I don't know where any eBay seller would come up with the notion that it is up to the buyer to make sure the item arrives safely, but it's complete nonsense. Basic, effective protective packaging is the responsibility of all sellers. If the post office still manages to mangle it when it's packaged properly, that's STILL the seller's problem, and they should build in the cost of a small number of USPS damages/losses into their pricing. This is not only common sense, it's perfectly clear under eBay and PayPal selling standards and both will back it up in case of a dispute.

  7. Politely demand a full refund. If the seller has a problem with it, tell them to go after the shipper for the insured packaged. Insurance on shipping also covers damage to the product. If they didn't insure it, not your problem. You *may* have to bite and pay return shipping, but from the sounds of it a big flat envelope should be good enough.

  8. Parting out sets you need to remember the following: 1. I tally up what I can get worst case scenario for each item including shipping and Ebay fees. This is what I have to buy the set at or under to ensure I make a profit. 2. Stuff will sit. Some stuff moves, but the "no minifigures" sets don't move quickly. I have some sitting for two months from when I started. They will sell eventually, but the actually pieces part of the set is the most expensive part. I have several sets where I sold all the figs and made back my money, but I am just waiting for the ship itself to sell to actually profit. 3. Shipping the non minifigure pieces - Don't offer a box. Adds up shipping too much. Without it, you can use a padded envelope and keep things a lot more resonable. 4. Don't sell any of the same sets as me. I don't need competition. That is all.

  9. Insider trading. They must know that a new UCS Falcon is coming so they are dumping their supply. :)

  10. Someone from the UK had a similar issue. Tried to order from France to the UK and it blocked him.

  11. I can see them retiring the Fire Brigade this year but also Grand Emporium? Well, we'll know soon enough if you're at least half right. :P

  16. Our custom builds are small (dance game, small diorama scenes, etc.) but here's our process: 1. The Idea. Very simple, we have a billion of them. :-D 2. Mr. Frog designs on Lego CAD software (I don't know which one he's currently using, he's tried at least two.) 3. Mr. Frog shows me design, I make suggestions, we engage in largely friendly and mostly bloodless design "discussions", come to agreement. 4. He hands me shopping list for prototype, I sometimes faint over the prices of some of the parts he's using, we determine if we can go cheaper on anything, sometimes yes, sometimes no. Availability of chosen parts is even more important, since the ultimate goal is to take the custom into production and sell it many times. 5. I order or pull from our building box or inventory the parts we have agreed on. 6. When parts arrive, we sit down and build the model. At this point there are generally several design changes because we're EXTREMELY fussy that the model not only look great, but that it feels sturdy and "substantial". 7. Mr. Frog takes the prototype, with its design changes, back to the CAD and alters the design. Hands over new parts list, #4 is sometimes repeated. 8. I order parts for our first production run (generally 20 units). 9. While waiting for parts to arrive, I start working on any necessary decals. I create my initial vision, and my family then tells me where I went horribly, horribly wrong. I sometimes try to argue, but it usually turns out they're right. They're like annoyingly effective editors or coaches. 10. I finalize decals, we apply them to the finalized prototype and congratulate ourselves. 11. Parts arrive, we print up decals en masse, we spend way too much time taking cute photos, we upload item for sale. 12. We start over at #1.

  17. Finally received my June order from Entertainment Earth. 2 Millennium Falcons in a sealed factory Lego Box, double-boxed in an appropriately sized shipping box with plenty of packing. I opened up the factory box to inspect and they are minty, great job EE, and they included a $15 off $99 order coupon too.

  18. You can use a hair dryer and almost any sticker will lift off that sort of box very easily.

  19. And for those who REALLY want a challenge, have your cat randomly choose two or three pieces as toys she can bat under the couch. Not that I have to ASK my cat to do this, mind you - she's a go-getter.

  20. Wow I remember these! Been a while though. I agree with akohns suggestion, give it a try on ebay and if you don`t get any bites (I`m sure you`ll get something) you can part out later. Doesn`t hurt to try right off the bat though.

  21. These are fairly rare but not too highly sought after. They did a line of sets that had fewer, larger pieces to a hit a younger age group (including Jack Stone) that didn't really catch on. Personally I think the Pirate line is rather nice. If you're on ebay I'd toss it up for a nice high buy-it-now and see if you get any bites. Right now there are none currently listed on the US ebay site. Only 5 total listed on Bricklink.com. Personally I have a 3 year old and he already loves to play with the smaller lego pieces. He'd love this.

  22. Yes, same happend last year before Christmas - it does not affect all sets but mainly the interesting ones... Last time the lock was canceled again in February - so hopefully we can order again next year from Germany...

  23. If y'all will read the thread (it's only two pages), you'll see this was all settled yesterday and the seller amicably agreed to cancel the listing. No need to keep beating the poor horse, he's dead.

  24. Trying to decipher LEGO's terms like "Retiring Soon" and "Out of Stock" is like deciphering ancient Egyptian heiroglyphics.

  25. Someone posted a link to the USA Today article on the LEGO sub-reddit on reddit.com. http://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/15menn/usa_today_wrote_a_great_story_on_lego_as_an/ There really hasn't been much love for this site on there in the past, but I noticed we were getting a good amount of traffic from there today and wanted to see what was going on. I noticed a comment that I have seen on this site before and a few other forums. "This is why we can never find clearance lego or the larger sets on Buy 1 get one. These aholes hoarde all the sets at the expense of our children. Screw them , wont be buying their 129 dollar asking price for Minecraft lol." I honestly don't care about being called an "ahole", but its the fact that I have read several times that the children are the ones being affected by LEGO collecting and investing. Maybe I am missing something, but does anyone really feel that this is true in anyway? I personally think there is more than enough supply during production periods to cover any LEGO lover to get the set they want. Even the Minecraft set was available on the LEGO shop for the past several days. Anyhow, I was just blown away again with the fact that I read this type of comment again (maybe have seen it 5 times before this as well). I was glad to see a few other users told them it was a stupid comment, just wondering what anyone else thinks
