So a while back I wrote this blog, but it was in the middle of a crap load of others and I don't know how people saw it. Maybe everyone already does this: http://community.brickpicker.com/blog/28/entry-366-amazon-gold-box-deals-make-sure-you-are-getting-the-most-out-of-amazons-discount-system/ Anyway, you can basically tell Amazon you only want Lego sets in your Gold box and it works really pretty well. I have multiple Lego sets in it almost everyday. Last 3 days in a row, I have had at least one of the minecraft sets and I got all three of them for $33.24 which as you all know anything is a good discount on those. I also recently got the delorean, and pick up battlepacks constantly there. If you aren't doing this, you are missing out. Just wanted to let people know if they didn't already.2 points

I wanted to pass on a web site I created that might be useful for people selling on eBay: http://www.ListingTrends.com The site shows you the hottest listings currently on eBay, as determined by number of bids, watchers, or current price. I had been using a simpler version at home to see what's trending in comic books (to figure out what I could buy and flip), and I figured I'd flesh it out so that anyone could use it for any category. For instance, if you look at the "Bulk Bricks & Lots" category, the listing with the highest number of bids is a set of 20 clone trooper minifigs with 35 bids, and the highest price is a 19" Lord Garmadon display at $490. If you drill into a specific set category (let's try Indiana Jones, he never seems to get much love...) then the highest price is a Crystal Skull 7627 at a measly $99, and the listing with the highest number of bids is the Motorcycle Chase 7620 with 14 bids. Like I said, no love... You can go as shallow or as deep as you like into each category - look at the entire Lego category overall, or drill all the way down into set themes. There are also pages that show listings with a low Buy It Now (lots of instruction books!) as well as listings (again by category...) ending soon with no bids. The site is totally non-commercial - there are no ads, and I don't have affiliate links. I mainly just did it half as a tool to use myself, and half as a programming exercise. I'm open to any comments on usability or appearance! Bill2 points

I'm telling you, Lego keeps it up and I'm going to start stopping by the Home Depot parking lot on the way to the store and sending my day laborers in with a shopping list.2 points

Hello everybody, This is quite a delayed reply (and I apologize if there are policies about replying to old topics), but I wanted to inform you all of the current status. If you don't know, I'm a system administrator and developer for the Brickimedia Network. We've been working very hard to restore the sites, and we're close to a point where we can open a "beta" period. Around the time this thread was created, the main complaint was that the wikis were very slow. We addressed this issue already, so it should be much easier to use once we relaunch the site. Anyways, thank you all for your support, and if you have any questions or suggestions, let me know. Thanks, Meiko2 points

Just a random thought but when (if) you display your sets, do you separate the yellow minifigs from the flesh ones? Say you have Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc. sets that some of the early licensed sets used the yellow while the newer ones used the flesh... do you display them all together? Maybe it's just my OCD but when they're all together it looks... weird.1 point

Hi everyone, my name is Brook and I am 38 living in Wisconsin. I would like to relate a story about how I started collecting legos for investing. Six years ago, my two sons were 8 and 6 and my oldest was just getting into Star Wars and legos. What better way to relive my young lego days than you buy him a whole storm trooper army. I loved the battle pack idea, so I bought 20 from lego and started to give him one on each day of the twelve days of Christmas. My plan derailed on the second day when he looked at me with tears in his eyes and said, "Dad, I already have this." After 3 years, the box of the 18 remaining Storm Trooper Battle Packs sat in the basement. One day I can across them, and looked online to see if I could sell them. Ebay had them selling for $30-$40 each. "Holy hand basket," I thought. "That's crazy." After fees, I turned $180 into $350. I was hooked into buying and selling Legos after that. I of course, made a few mistakes in the beginning. Here are the rules I follow when buying investment legos. 1. Don't buy opened sets for investing. It takes way too much time to verify all the pieces are there. 2. Buy retired opened sets to give to the kids for presents. Best opened set: Luke's X-Wing with Yoda's hut for my son. 3. Don't hold onto sets that may be reissued. My best gain was on the original Jabba's Sail Barge that I bought for $80 in 2009 and sold for $370 in 2011. I have noticed the price has dropped significantly in the last year. Same thing on the Republic Attack Gunship (7676). I bought at 2 at $95 and sold them at $320. Now it is around $200. 4. Don't buy sets that have already appreciated 100% (at least not for Star Wars). I know there are a lot exceptions to this one, but it is related directly to my point above. It is too easy to buy at the peak, and there are many sets about to retire that will appreciate much faster. 5. Buy sets that have a huge collector fan base outside of Lego. I completely missed the boat on the first round of Batman legos. My son did get a Mr. Freeze $10 set that is over $100 now. Too bad he doesn't have all the pieces. I am not missing out this time around. The creator sets have me stumped on who is pushing the prices so high. However, I have jumped on the band wagon for those too. As you can see from my list, I don't hold onto any set for more than 5 years. Since I never open my legos, my kids and wife made me promise I would open my Christmas present last year. It was fun to build my new Battle of Helms Deep, and now it is packed away until next Christmas, so I can look forward to building it again. The sets I am excited about buying on Cyber Monday: VW Camper Van Any of the first Lord of the Rings issues left Any of the super heroes sets Any of the Creator buildings Thanks for reading. I look forward to learning from you all. Brook1 point

Well what prompted this is the pictures of Comicon that PeterParker posted had one star. The guy took the time to take pictures and give us a link. I personally liked the pics and am glad that he posted them...so if someone thought they weren't good, fine, go to the next blog. But to me to give him one star was insulting. That said, I agree with Sadowski, he posted them on the internet, and I am sure that he was probably aware that there are internet haters out there. I just like that kind of stuff, and would hate for someone to be discouraged because they were marginalized by someone who contributes nothing to the sight except for an occassional "1-star". Just my two cents.1 point

Jeeze, it took hours to build but I finally completed the Haunted House! This is an absolutely amazing design that will stay on display permanently. It is an incredible work of art with great interior and play features, and I love every little facet about it. I'm so happy, I can hardly contain myself! Maybe this classic theme tune can help demonstrate my excitement. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=891XuTSjqaM1 point

GREAT NEWS. It is a wonderful and informative web site. Being an IT mgr myself, please try to keep regular server image backups (including DBs). I'm not intending to step on toes or make assumptions but many of us want to see your site succeed1 point

I live in OC, but these were bought in LA county. I used my Walmart app to find these. There are a few threads on how to use this, but if you want to PM me I'd be more then happy to help walk you through it (you too Orc King). I have an Android, not sure if the Iphone works the same. I know of some Spiderman Doc Oc Ambushes sitting on a shelf in Orange for $11 too, but with fulltime work, Master's Program, two little boys, ice hockey team, AND a single Dad can't always run right out!! (BTW anyone who reads this is more then welcome to grab them...they are at the orangefaire mall I think. Just let me know if you do...save me a possible wasted trip!) I was actually happier with the Galaxy Squad...to be honest. I think that Bug Obliterator set is really cool. It was 87.75% off too!!!! WTH people?? How can a mom walk past that and not buy it? Even the cashier was like "$10? Wow!". I will flip these all quickly...GS sets I can sell for $50 each and the UG probably for $45-50.1 point

In the words of south park... Kyle: Because anybody who thinks 9/11 was a conspiracy is a retard! Cartman: Oh really? Well did you know that over one-fourth of people in America think that 9/11 was a conspiracy? Are you saying that one-fourth of Americans are retards? Kyle: Yes. I'm saying one-fourth of Americans are retards. Stan: Yeah, at least one-fourth. Kyle: Let's take a test sample: There's four of us, you're a retard, that's one-fourth.1 point

Not sure, but what i do know is that with all the restrictions LEGO is putting on their exclusives, everytime an exclusive is on sale on amazon or any other site, they will go fast so dont waste any time just buy them, you can always return them later if you think you made rush to judgment purchase.1 point

I think (not 100% sure) that the rock raiders were the last ones with such flap up boxes, so around year 2000 The flap up boxes also developed through time, so these last ones were very colorfull, with random non-squared "windows". I like the early ones (1984-1992(7)) with a simple squared peek-in areas (I guess they existed also prior to 1984, but I'm only referring to castle).1 point

Thx for this managed to get down here and grab em with my buds! They did ask for my VIP card and I declined . Also asked for my I.d. And they crossed checked it with a list .... Weird. On a side note I think it's crazy to sell all your crawlers for a 2200 dollar profit.. I think the hh and tower bridge won't come close to this set for at least 3-4 years... ... Those sets will do well over a longer term I think. This crawler has been an instant hit since it appeared and shows no legit sign of decline. Scammers may detour some new buyers but that's ok, casualties of war . Plus think of all the 200 dollar sets we have in our inventory that are currently available ....and are massed produced. I see this set hitting 600 next year easy. Different strokes for different folks1 point

From what I remember each building was in it's own bag/bags. I don't believe I had any leftover pieces from one bag to the next. All of those are a great build and fun to display!1 point

We noticed the same, they wait till the last 2 days then ship, and its delivered on the day they promised. Of course they want us to purchase prime, but my family is never in a big hurry, so we can wait for their "free shipping" even if it takes a week or so1 point

It is. Official LEGO announcement is that it will be retiring at the end of this year, due to the little scandal over its resemblance to a mosque. http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/2786-lego-backs-down-over-jabbas-palace-accelerated-eol-for-9516-due-to-controversy/page-5?hl=jabba#entry886141 point

I collect old castle themed leaflets and adverts. Have a folder-full. Many scenes there are truly remarkable, and I am sure were the staring material for many children. There are also some nice images in various idea books.1 point

If you are around the SF Bay Area, the Lego store in Stoneridge Mall (Pleasanton, Calif) has a few on the shelf this afternoon. Btw, you might want to bring a friend with you just in case because they may refuse to sell to you if their system shows that you have purchased one crawler before.1 point

This is a discussion that affects every single person who logs onto our site, whether you are just curious about the value of your collection or a hard core reseller. The vast majority of members are concerned with the value of their LEGO collection. To restrict quality discussion among an elite few would not be in the best interest of the site IMO. StarBrickCity brought this point up previously and while it has some merit, there are more negatives than positives in my view. This site accepts all sorts of LEGO fans and to make a special section for a select few could upset the rest of the members. A topic like this needs to be discussed by all members, because it can affect all members. Glad Ed came in to squash this horrid idea. If this place became a "paid" site, I'd be done here. Not that the big spenders would care, but there are a few of us who remain "small time" for a reason - in my case I invest in many other things and like to diversify, which is why you won't ever see me buying 50 funhouses, though I have the money to do so. I don't necessarily agree with Diabolos in that your buying power should be limited - hell I don't really care because I'll figure something else out, I've been doing that and doing it well for the past 15 years. But I feel that this is moving in a direction of many of the larger investors simply "assuming" that the rest of us are dealing in chump change and that they should be reserved some sort of golden mecca of topic discussion. Further, I feel like that would take this site in a direction different than what the Mack's vision for this place was. I don't want to speak for the teeny-boppers who frequent this site, but kids like Comicblast and Darth Lego have learned alot about not only investing, but life in general from listening to the advice of some of the big dogs around here. I think that's something you guys should be proud of...seriously. Do you really want to throw up walls and leave those kids out to talk in private? Is it that big of a deal? Those guys are learning alot from you, and if we could get more kids to learn to be fiscally responsible and smart like they are, we probably wouldn't have the problems with welfare and other government assistance that we do. This next generation needs the mentorship that YOU can provide. Just my two cents.1 point

I am on here and Eurobricks pretty evenly. There is a wealth of knowledge over there, but it's not the most investor friendly site. I've gotten into playing Mafia games there. I had never done any such thing before, but they are very fun, and make you think very differently.1 point
