Ehh, pretty sure it was aimed at girls.. "Paradisa was a subtheme of Town, that ran from 1992-1997. It included many pink-coloured bricks, along with other rare pieces, and was mainly marketed towards girls" http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/Paradisa And it wasn't even the first line aimed at girls... This Hogwarts Gryffindor set pictured above is definitely not the "original" Lego set aimed at girls..3 points

Come on. You don't remember the scene where Jabba's Palace was firing missiles? My favorite part of LOTR was when the Nazgul were coming after Frodo at Weathertop only to be repelled by Aragorn launching missiles at them.3 points

I don't like that Lego is inedible. It's not very comfortable to sleep on. Building a shelter from Lego is cost-prohibitive. When I smoke Lego it doesn't get me very high at all. I created a Lego pet but he's very lazy. Lego can't replicate complex machinery, like a tv, toaster, or terminator. I do enjoy snapping things together and dusting. It's a give and take.2 points

I have a few and didn't want to buy them out. If everyone went into the stores when they saw deals or hard to find sets and bought them out many people would be missing out. Figured I would post it here to see if someone else wants it or maybe some kid who really wants this set grabs it. I am in this game to buy and enjoy Lego's and hopefully cover my costs (which can be significant). I really think people need to think about clearing a store out every time they see a good deal. Leave some sets on the shelves to keep people interested in this hobby.2 points

Toys R Us announced Wednesday that it would expand its price-match guarantee to include online retailers including Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Target.com and BestBuy.com, among others. The aim, according to the release, "Removing any doubt before holiday shopping begins in earnest that customers are receiving the best available prices." Perhaps this means there won't be any more over MSRP!1 point

Just a heads up... There is a store called Tuesday Morning which is basically a buy-out store. I popped into one today and saw a few Lego sets. Nothing I wanted (Minotaurus game, mining truck, and another game), but, if you are ever near one of these stores, it might not be a bad idea to see if they have anything you might be interested in.1 point

Jason from The Brick Show and I correspond from time to time. He is a member on this site and they use our data in most of their LEGO investment series videos. There is now a new link on our site for Lego Investing videos with the spotlight on The Brick Show investment videos. I think they do a great job with them and we will continue to post the latest videos as they produce them. If you have not watched any of them, I recommend that you do. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/lego_investing_videos.cfm1 point

I prefer Dell, but it's up to you. Some people also like Lenovo and Asus. Graphic cards are integrated with the processor these days, so I'd pick one of i3 or i5-based options with no additional stuff. Check out techbargains.com as they post deals there pretty often. notebookcheck.net can give you some ideas. My choice a bit over a year ago - Dell Vostro 3450 (I needed matt display, so I didn't like Inspirons. Latitudes are cool and more "durable" but more expensive too). No problem this far, love the quality.1 point

Ok. So technic-ly (a little pun-- sorry) they dont price match the website if the item is not available for in store pickup or home delivery. In other words if that annoying "sold in stores" is the only option highlighted on the web site, no price match. However, being pleasant trumps these types of rules 82.7% of the time (92.7% if you add a smile). Ka-ching! "As a courtesy just this once" the manager allowed me to price match. Thanx again for the reminder Exciter1!1 point

I would look into the HP DV6 or DV7s - I believe they have a 15inch and maybe a 13inch. I have always had really good results with them. If she is ok with a netbook, the ACER notebooks are really nice for the money. As well the MSI u100 Winds are really nice and are fairly cheap. Another good fit is the HP everyday computing laptops. They are sturdy and get the job done. This one fits your requirements: http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-2000/D3X05AV?HP-2000z-2d00-Notebook-PC1 point

I'd wait until after Christmas when most of this line will be 50% off. That's what happened the first year of Ninjago.1 point

I can't agree more. It's almost like giving away a part of your soul when you do that. Or not. Either way, even when I try to follow the directions on the box for punching it out, I usually end up ripping up the box art.1 point

Its funny, I was working on this back in early 2011. It was one of the original features of the site. We even had a name "BrickWatcher" for it and a logo that I was working on. Maybe its something we can revisit, give people an option to get emails, texts, etc. Pick sets, give price ranges on when you want to be alerted and by what retailer. I just know that people don't want to be bothered that much. Other than forum emails, maybe we send out 2 or 3 a year.1 point

Honestly, I`d lean heavily toward #2. Not meaning to poke too much, but based on her reaction in the video, I honestly don`t think we heard 100% of the story. If you guys catch what I mean.1 point

While a 3,000 piece Maersk ship would be awesome, it nor anything else will ever rival the price of a 10179 IMO.1 point

As Frog indicates, it appears eBay has been very transparent about all of the fees associated with international shipping to the extent that this is possible. Really they have to be if they want to capture that market. At the end of the day we're still largely left with the fact that "buyer safe" international shipping methods are somewhat expensive. "Buyer safe" is why we only use USPS Priority Express Mail or higher levels of service for international items. You should the the whining and complaint messages my wife gets from people that think our shipping rates are too high and want us to ship "First Class" or whatever method doesn't provide tracking...we don't offer that, and depending on the way they ask, we might add them to the BBL, because they're usually not a customer we want. We sold a Skylanders figure today for about $40. The buyer paid $58 to ship it. Additionally they will have to pay customs fees once it arrives. If they value the item enough they will pay whatever it costs to get it in their hands.1 point

I think one thing valuable for you to consider is that a few sets or a theme not moving at your 1, 2, 5, or 10 local WalMarts (for example) is in no way an adequate indicator of performance in the overall domestic market, and certainly not representative of performance in a global market. Additionally, while it's nice to buy things prior to EOL with a profit locked in, that's hard to do, and will not work with every theme. Bottom-line, in all of these purchases you're making a bet that at some point in the future the item will be worth significantly more than your purchase price. You might lose some of those bets, but I think you're safe with Hobbit and LOTR sets, especially at a 30% discount. This thread title is a really good example of why some won't make it in the secondary market. It's not what "you" like that's important, it's what the market is willing to buy at the price you're charging.1 point

If that is the correct way for measurements then box height could be considered its depth. (At least in my mind it would make more sense that way.)1 point

Alright, that does deserve a mention and totals up to four different topic types which always end up taking over any thread. Perhaps I should start that Lady Brickpickers thread up again for old times sake? Ha ha.1 point

Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!! Rookie mistake! I didn't know the price until they were actually being rung up. My mind was so blown that I was actually getting them that I didn't even think of price matching. I'm going to go back tomorrow and see if they will do it for me. Thanx for the idea!1 point

Here is how the boxes should be measured, or look at the dimensions to see how they look. If you have a height of 11 inches on a small set, something is wrong.1 point

Didn't you know that once you walk into TRU, dollars become like dog years? So while in the real world it looks like I overpaid, in TRU land $1.99 Brisk is actually a bargain!1 point

But just for those who think TLG is perfect, look into how they told everyone it was their last chance to buy the original Maersk Container Ship. Not only your last chance to get that ship, but your last chance to get parts made in Maersk blue as they claimed they were no longer going to be able to make it. What happened not too much later? Yup, a remake of the container ship.1 point

All I stated was what has been done before. I also clearly said that TLG made it clear from the get-go that they were going to have numbered and unnumbered versions of the Santa Fe. I have no idea what they're going to do, nor do I really care. I have my sets. All I'm saying is that just because these numbered tiles are made doesn't mean it's impossible for them to make generic ones.1 point

Mos Eisley has been playing this game longer than just about all of us. I would guess he's owned multiples of both of these sets. If there's one poster on this board that I trust to know (and have lived through) previous Lego policies, it would be him.1 point

That still doesn't prevent them from releasing non-unique license plate versions. Who knows what they're going to do, but it would be very easy for them to get around this statement because any more that get produced wouldn't have the unique license plate, keeping the above statement true. As previously stated, they've already done this with the UCS Falcon and (unmentioned) the Santa Fe Super Chief. The Super Chief had the exact same thing with uniquely numbered tiles for the first 10,000 sets, then unnumbered after that. Now for both of those sets it was stated ahead of time that this was going to be the plan, but the point is that it's been done before.1 point

This is simply not true. As long as you have a properly written description, you're fine and ebay will side with the seller. The characteristics of being new are a list of qualities that can qualify something as being new. All of them don't have to be true for an item to be new. A handmade item can be new, but it is not unopened. We can go round and round forever, and people will always disagree on this. In my opinion, when we're talking about LEGO elements, you are letting people know whether those pieces have been used or not when listing their condition. That gives two options - new or used.1 point
-
There are a fair number of opinions on this. Some feel that any time you get into the secondary market at all, including complete unopened items, it's no longer "new" because it's a mystery source -- if I buy a designer bag at Nordstrom's, I know its pedigree. If I buy the same bag on eBay from SellerSomebody, I have no idea how many times the bag has been bought and sold before through how many stores and closeouts and storage lockers and garage sales and thrift shops, even if it ends up in my hands "new with tags" and in new condition, is it still really "new"? Some say yes, some say no. It's problematic for those of us selling things like minifigs - we have two condition options, new and used. Everyone and their second cousin uses NEW, any of us stupid enough to list our new, just removed from packaging figs as "used" would see our sales plummet, because Lego fig buyers know what "new" and "used" mean in the accepted terminology of the site and search accordingly. The folks in the links above are being very clear what is and isn't included and using new as a condition. I don't think that makes them douchetards, but maybe that's because I don't consider myself one, either.1 point

I dunno, check these out: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEGO-INSTRUCTIONS-ONLY-6414-DOLPHIN-POINT-manual-directions-PARADISA-RARE-/171091221653?pt=Building_Toys_US&hash=item27d5d4dc95 Lego Paradisa from the mid-90's. I got a CL lot recently that had a bunch of these pieces and a couple of partial sets. Those pink pieces do fade over the years....1 point

Not to hate on the Austin TX location but they have told me things so many times that have been completely false. I literally stood there asking about the Back to the Future set a week after they came out and the guy laughed in my face and said they didn't have any. It turned out my wife went in about an hour later and picked up 2 for a late bday present. It blew my mind! The guy didn't even know they were there. This is just one of many instances. I suppose in that hour time frame they could have received a delivery...but doubt it.1 point

You (Original poster) explain exactly what i ''predicted'' long ago.... Soon (around 6-12 months from now on) we will see smart people faking their buying and make the majority buy something and them doing the exact opposite... Example: Everyone here says this will be great (set number whatever) And the small majority agree of those reliable like emazers and others And that minority buys something else that is overlooked and makes profit and majority suffers low returns. Thats invitable to happen.1 point
-
The main issue that I see with this is that ability to buy something does not mean everyone has an equal ability to manage inventory, market items, sell items, and process orders. The buying part is really the easy part in all of this. In no way is this a level playing field, and it never will be because of incompetence, laziness, differing skill levels, etc... This is not a slam on anyone specifically, but I would say that based on the listings we see and based on many of the things posted here in the forums and some of the blog articles that a large percentage of would-be investors are somewhat incompetent when it comes to effectively doing all of the activities required to operate profitably in a secondary market. This could be because they just haven't learned how to do it yet, or it could be that they just don't care. As you mentioned quick-flipping, it often gets a bad rap here because people say the time involved isn't worth the return. This is at best short-sighted. While I have no definitive proof, this is evidence to me that the people attempting it haven't really thought through what they're doing. Whenever you have a process that is inconsistent or inefficient, results will be impacted. The only reason I can quick-flip things profitably is because we're following a very well-defined, predictable process that produces predictable results. For example, I don't print shipping labels the way many of you do, I use standard box sizes, I buy boxes in bulk at really low prices, I use automation to manage inventory and create listings, etc... People also have issues with how long it takes to list things, which is yet another indication that people are using ineffective or no automation techniques to speed all of this up. This results in low-quality listings that take people a ton of time to create. Just wait until close to Christmas when we see people whining about hitting item and selling limits on eBay that they don't know exist, or all of the complaints we will see about negative feedback because they didn't take the time to properly package and ship things. You'll see some people drop out of the market after that.1 point

Yep click on the above link and play it safe. It's going to get very nasty/messy trying to track down mr. Golds in the stores. Unless every single Mr.GOLD is accounted for...which they won't be, investing in these sealed cases is almost guaranteed to make a profit for a smart investor. Yes...guaranteed. Stop wasting your time in Walmart, Target or TRU feeling packages and looking like some wackjob. Buy cases. I can't make it any simpler and clearer to everyone out there. End of rant... Edited for harsh language!1 point
