Just want to say that I think this is a great website and that there is a lot of great information here. There seem to be many people whose opinions I respect and value. That being said, a bit of history on me... my first sets when I was a kid growing up were 483 (Alpha 1 Rocket Base), 575 (Coast Guard Station) & 585 (Police Headquarters). I still have the pieces and boxes. ) After I got my first "real" job out of college, the first thing I bought was Lego set 6274 (Caribbean Clipper) and a Chicago Cubs jersey. The pirate ship was supposed to go in my fish tank, but didn't have the heart to put it in. Been collecting off & on ever since. As with everybody else on this website, I'm always on the lookout for the next great investment. Honestly, as far as I'm concerned, every Lego set is a great investment from a personal standpoint (maybe not financial standpoint). Previously, I only bought the sets that I really liked, but after seeing the potential for future income, I've expanded my horizons and am now willing to purchase those sets which I may not have a personal attachment to, but that may have good growth potential. Worse case scenario, I get "stuck" with a Lego set that will never be worth more than what I paid for... and I'm ok with that. Thanks! appleseed19672 points

That's what the Galaxy Squad poly bag wants you to think. Never turn your back on it...its really pointy and has those leggy things like teeth. Beware.2 points

Everyone needs to relax a little. Do we have any idea what will really happen next? We don't and all the stories from random Lego and TRU employees don't amount to anything really. We know the current plan is to sell only 20,000 units and that it's currently a quick $200 if you flip one now. I personally am holding my 2 to see what the future holds. The worst case scenario is I don't really make much money and have two very unique sets to play with or break even on. There are some that are clearly a little chapped they didn't get one and to that I just say your life will be a pretty big downer if you are always jealous of other people's success. Be happy for those that do well and we will happy when the same happens to you.2 points

I think the adage is Tragedy + TIME = Comedy And I think "Comedy Essential #1" is: KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE!!!!!!! (and it also helps to actually be at least a little bit funny)2 points

I'm wondering what is considered acceptable from the standpoint of the used condition of bricks in a built set. I am currently piecing together some sets from a massive CL haul. I am discarding any broken, discolored, or gouged/dented/deeply scratched pieces, but almost all have numerous hairline scratches on them that can be seen when looking at them at a certain angle with decent lighting. For the modulars I'm building, I'm thinking about just pick-a-bricking a ton of 2x2 and 1x2 tiles, since these seem to be the most noticeable (on the sidewalk areas, mostly). I realize that even brand new sets can have these scratches, just from being in the bags, so I'm wondering what the expectation is when buying a used set. What is the acceptable level of hairline scratches, or minor damage, in general? Additionally, does anyone have a good method for removing these minor blemishes from bricks?1 point

I think you will get different answers from just about everybody on here as to what is acceptable. So it will depend on the buyer. If I was buying to give to my kids it wouldn't bother me as much...on a Modular I might be pickier. I think if you are the seller, just make sure to be VERY clear as to what the damage or "used-ness" is and put a picture of what you mean in the listing.1 point

Got it, you tri-doubleposter you. And how about we get back to the actual Crawler topic instead of having a debating discussion of definitions please.1 point

In theater a Tragedy is considered a form a comedy, but that doesn't mean it's "ha ha funny". So let's look at how tragedy is defined. trag1 point

Do people realize how big Walmart is? And Target? This set didn't appear in either place...Vampyre Castles? They were in all of those stores (by the way there are about 7,000 Walmarts and 1,700 Targets). Lets not even count KMart, and all of the "mom and pop" retail locations that don't get the opportunity to sell this set. I would say that are over 10,000 Lego authorized dealers that CAN NOT sell this set. Included are their two largest distributors (Target and Walmart). I am willing to bet that Target.com and Walmart.com are also in the top 5 in Lego sales. I believe Lego is a good investment. If a certain set can only be found in 5% of the locations that Lego is sold (probably less, there are only 800 or so Toys R Us and Babies R Us)...well you can make your own decisions of course.1 point

Over time we will collect data moving forward, but the cost to go back in time will not justify itself. If we tried to pay for the data from eBay to go back to the year 2000, we would need to pay a few hundred thousand dollars. The payoff would be extremely small. We are collecting as many retail prices that we can and for the USA data, we already have over 2 years of data. I think you can pretty much figure out what you need to from retail until now on the performance of a set. As far as more reports or data for overall themes or groups of sets, provide me an example of the type of report/data you would like, and I can look to put something together for you. We are always open to suggestions, but it is quite helpful if you can email me/PM me an example of what you would like to do.1 point

Peeves the Poltergeist is in there as well as a glow in the dark Snape. Not the best lot, but you should definitely make your money back plus some.1 point

Most of my purchases are based around 3 variables: How old the set is. How much discount is being offered. How popular I think set might be. So in my case a rule of thumb with discounts depends how old and how popular a set might be. A new set with 30% off would never make the grade as I would need to hold onto it for at least 2 years before any potential returns are made (41999 excluded) and the chances of that set being offered at equal or greater discount in those 2 years are quite likely. I try to buy 18/24 month old sets at as good a discount I can find, typically 20% or if I'm lucky 30%+ If it's a set that's about to (or already has) end production I will gladly pay full retail. Example being 10217 and 10212. Stu1 point

Its a program run by a website call Punchtab, you help spread the word of content on our site and you are rewarded 100 points for doing so, or just by visiting our site daily. They have the gift cards etc. I am currently talking with them to offer other gift cards for Amazon, maybe LEGO as well as we can add sets, etc just like our Brickstore. Yes this is basically like a second Brickpoints program that is run by someone else and the only way you can get points is by sharing Brickpicker content.1 point

We only do "free" shipping. It reduces the DSRs you can be rated against...you get an automatic "5 stars" for S&**** charges.1 point

Thank you for posting this, went to the first one opened on the East Coast (Midlothian Virginia) and bought every single Lego set they had on sale... I managed to talk myself into another 33% off with the store manager. So pretty much an absolutely amazing deal. Got 70+sets!1 point

Target wasn't hiding the Helm's Deep its Lego going for the final push on these. Target and Toys R Us is getting plenty of these in for the Holidays.1 point

Yes, if you can't work it out with the seller, open a Significantly Not As Described (SNAD) case through eBay. DON'T return it until either the seller agrees to the return or eBay forces them to accept the return - you have to go through the steps. Insurance is to protect the seller and is NOT a requirement for the buyer to pay, in spite of the many uninformed eBay sellers who try to say it is the buyer's responsibility. eBay will not accept that excuse - it's the seller's job to get the item to you intact, and their delivery company failed to do so, it's on them.1 point

I asked my wife to make a run for me. After she stopped laughing and threatened to send me to the couch when I got home, I conceded that I will miss out on this sale. I haven't sold much in the year I have been investing so I can hardly blame her. Congrats to those that cleaned up.1 point

I have not read the new insurance policy, but Buyer Protection should refund you all if you open a SNAD case and ship the items back.1 point

I know some will disagree, but I think the original 21002 sets are great investments. Look at how well they sell on eBay and Amazon - they're the top 2-3 sets sold every month on both sites! It has been this way for the last 4-5 months. People love this set, and I don't see this cooling any time soon. I would grab a few of the original ones, and wait on the new ones. I don't think there will be another run on the new sets like the first MC release last year (TLC has to have learned their lesson from the first), so I think they'll likely have plenty in hand when they're released to avoid the dreaded "OOS" a week after its release. That said, you never know with this theme - everyone here knows its popularity. Also, with Minecraft becoming an official Lego theme now, I have to believe the new sets will be around for at least 14 months, if not longer.1 point

Don't feel too bad...for sure you're not the only participating member on this site that doesn't have one. The early day(S) of picking this set up 'cheap' on ebay in the $300's are long gone. Seems like a bargin now and easy flip. As soon as I heard the BTTF wasn't an Lego store exclusive, I wasn't in a hurry to order it asap. But if you're a fan no biggie. I might buy my first BTTF in Sept for the promo or wait for 2x pts event, no rush for me as it should be around for a while.1 point

Buy It Now prices are not indicative of the current value of items. People can ask for anything they want, but if they aren't selling at those prices it's meaningless with regard to determining value.1 point

So, I just finished building the Town Hall modular. While I love the overall buildings in this theme, I'm especially a fan of the micro-builds that go along with them. When I got to building the globe that appears on the third floor of the TH, I was amazed by the piece's fantastic printing. The globe printing is amazingly accurate and I was just in awe of how cool the micro-build turned out. However I was stuck by one little detail more than anything: Do you guys see it? California is clearly separated from the rest of the United States. Now, this cannot be an accident as it would be harder for lego to design and print the little extra piece of the state rater than put it in with the rest of the US "blob". Is LEGO trying to tell us something? Haha, the conspiracy theorist inside me would like to think so.1 point

Wonderful. When will the growth stop? They have been out for half a month almost and seen 150% growth. Wanna know what the CAGR for that is? 3600% CAGR! If it keeps this up, it will be worth $12,093,235,200 in August of 2018!!!1 point

Unfortunately, the amount of LEGO I get to build and display will decrease rapidly shortly when I get back to school. I've been thinking of an awesome and small set that I can keep out in my dorm room as a decoration and "centerpiece". So I ordered this set today. The television majors are going to be drooling.1 point

There was double VIP in march/April for a few weeks and an accidental double VIP posting on the website sometime in may, which would have been honored if requested. I heard from a lego rep that there may be one around October.1 point

It was - but I already built one and I am just not sure about it having any investment potential.1 point

I do anticipate it will be fairly rare if nothing else than due to its price point of $170, most stores don't stock sets that large except TRU and Lego. It could be released on the large retailers but probably will be online only. My comment about the production cycle and availability was intended to be a conditional statement, sorry if it wasn't worded well. Obviously, it could stay in production for 3 years or more, in that case, it wouldn't perform as well. As for the set being rare, I was partly referring to how often we see a set like that produced for city, how many sets similar to this one have every been produced? Aside from the town plan, I don't know of any, that is what I meant by rare. This isn't the next construction vehicle, police station, or even harbor, sets like this don't come around very often.1 point
