That's odd, the final duel on the Death Star kept interrupting the Ewok battle3 points

I agree with both of you. This situation is a textbook case of policy abuse. Retro it sucks for you that you're a newbie AND you didn't do your homework before dropping your entire allowance on Lego. But them's the breaks. I would never purposely defend walmart, but their return policies are quite generous and lenient. Too many people like you take advantage, we can all kiss it goodbye. Anyway im sure you won't have too much hassle returning all that junk, this time. Try to be a bit more careful in the future.3 points

That's not a train. That is the airport shuttle monorail part number 6399. Bring cash. The used value is $375!2 points

This thread has been locked. To the OP it is the consensus that unless you take back the sets with a receipt and get back only what you paid, you are being shady. Is what you are doing within walmarts policy? Yep. Is it shady and immoral? Yep. All the advice you were given by members was the moral and just thing to do. Its up to you what you choose to do. As you can see 99% of the members here are hard working honest people and if you choose to be dishonest and take the easy way out, you are going to catch some flack for it. Just take the sets back and get what you paid for them or do some work, sell them and make a few bucks while learning from your mistake. Walmart doesn't owe you anything for your time or your bad judgment in purchaing but I have a feeling you feel that way. Just go do what you do. Its your decision and you are the one who has to live with it.2 points

This is the part that I think will take some thought. It has to be low enough that people will be willing to do it, yet high enough that it's significant. With mypoupette, the reason that we use it is because their authentication service typically adds more than double that in value to an item. That's subjective...I have no data to back that up really, but mypoupette is expensive and we wouldn't use it if it didn't have an impact on our ability to sell things that higher prices.1 point

That is a lot of sets. Now I have to look through them and see if there is anything I want.1 point

Very nice! Thanks for those. Here's one I currently love. Not strictly a Brickfilm but based on the Lego video games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSUK4WgQ3vk1 point

There's no way you could compare these two sets. 41999 sold out in two weeks. Ewok Village will be around for two years.1 point

I think most people here (and a lot of people that aren't here) will wait until Sept 1 to order this set so that they can get the free VW mini and clone polybags. The Galaxy squad mech you would get ordering the ewok village before the 1st is pretty lame IMO1 point

While i surely think all your stuff doing is legal this in quoted above is what i consider immoral... if you return all items to Walmart and then hunt the same walmart untill hopefully (for you) they discount it even deeper/lower that for me is immoral and bordering on fraud even if it would fall on the court... Managers of shops need to start identifying people doing this and stop selling them LEGO on discounts for their ways of ''abusing'' the discounts.1 point

Why don't you just flip them instead of returning them? Make money as opposed to breaking even. Takes work though, investing is LEGO is not easy money, aside from the 41999 ;)1 point

I bought 4 white 16x32 baseplates for my winter village collection. I don't know if I got a good price but I don't care. These things are so frakkin rare I was just happy to find 4 in the same place.1 point

This is an interesting possibility. We could charge a fee to be "BrickPicker Certified." Basically, the item would have to be described and photographed to a certain high standard. Feed back could also play a role later on as well.1 point

This sounds like the absolutely most ____ (fill in the blank) kind of advice. Sure, he can keep it for 90 days and then see, but should he? Just seems like its on the line of being shady. Stuff like this that drives retailers to put up limits, add restocking fees and in general make it more difficult on average consumers.1 point

This set may just top the Falcon in a few years. They're not going to make more of this set, period. They're now looking to make another "limted edition" of something else. However, the next "limited edition" may be 50,000.1 point

Those were first a Target exclusive polybag which ended up a couple months later at Walmart for some reason. $3.99 is regular retail for them and I agree closer to $2 would be a good price to snag a bunch of them up. A huge amount of these have been sold on eBay and BrickLink both on average for $5-$6 right now. It could take a while before they fully mature but I have seen a few listings reach around $10 in the past. I know for myself these polybags took some time before completely selling out of the store.1 point

If I was the store manager and you tried to return all that, I would certainly have some choice words for you, and if possible, would try and hit you with as much of a restocking fee as I possibly could. Unbelievable.1 point

TLG: "Due to the overwhelming success and the disappointment of our valued customers who were not able to purchase a limited edition 41999, we have decided to release 60,000 more also with numbered license plates, if you miss out on those don't worry we will keep making them until not a single ebayer can even sell one for retail. Thank you and have a great day".1 point

I think it will go the way of Kingdoms Joust...Lego still sells it as a standalone flagship set even without the rest of the line. At my lego store they've moved it to the modular buildings/kingdoms joust/tower bridge section.1 point

I get that you don't agree with him, but not sure why you are bringing so much emotion into your posts. Seems to me like he's just trying to make a logical evaluation of how he sees the site coming to be, and he's providing honest feedback, which I think is what Jeff wanted from all of us here.1 point

Because Jeff asked the question and I don't think that anyone in his position benefits from an echo chamber of thumb's up posters who praise every idea he has. If you don't like what I have to say, don't read my posts.1 point

Keep in mind that if the fees for listing are low enough here, they don't have to pay eBay comparable rates. A portion of eBay's percentage could be knocked off -- all of it if the seller wanted, but at least some of it makes the item lower priced than the same item from the same seller on eBay. Add in a discount for paying by postal money order and you save 3% PayPal fees - offer 2% savings to the buyer, both of you come out ahead. I don't know if it will work, but I do know that if I don't try to support the best of the new venues (and based on management, I'd put this venue in that "best of" category) I'm not really helping myself. Example: Bonanza.com is a decently managed website with no listing fees, but Google loves them. I have my eBay listings mirrored there and get a steady trickle of sales at a low final value fee, no listing fee, and almost no work (they sync my eBay store listings daily, anything that sells on Bonanza I immediately remove from eBay to avoid the double sale on my OOAK offerings). No, Bonanza is no eBay in traffic, but without little sites to offer a little challenge, the 800 lb. Gorillas remain the only games in town. I like to have my eggs in more than one basket, and more than even the two big baskets of Amazon and eBay. Bricklink is a separate venture and I have high hopes for it, but a few ads here aren't going to break me in time management and could pay off. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.1 point

Personally, I wouldn't pay to list or advertise sets on this site because of the audience it attracts. When I sell sets, I don't want customers who are like me and are buying Lego to resell because they aren't willing to pay the prices that I need to sell at,to make the profit I want to make. For me to sell or advertise here, it would have to attract true consumers who are looking to buy sets for personal use and don't care about the price. Right now, I just don't see what this site has to offer in terms of a viable marketplace that would make me want to add another sales channel to those that I already use.1 point
-
Personally, I have been waiting for the Classifieds to be defined before deciding exactly how to approach them as a sales entity. My biggest worry where they are concerned is that it will be the same people that use them both for buying and selling. I look at eBay as the place that I may find people who do not know the value of the sets or pieces that they are buying or selling. As a buyer I look for good deals and as a seller I look for buyers who will overpay for my items. Both exist in great quantity on eBay (and Craigslist in some areas). BrickLink is populated with sellers who know more about what they are selling and buyers who are also educated and are motivated by different goals than the average eBayer. I see users on this site as fitting much more in the mold of the BrickLink user. It makes me wonder what I would be able to sell successfully on this site. All that aside, it makes me a bit nervous to think about a flat fee to sell rather than one based upon listings or sales. I am a very small fish in this pond and do not intend to do more than dabble as a seller. I don't think that I am the only one that frequents this site that is essentially a hobbyist--a serious, need to be informed of everything hobbyist. Of course we all want to be making some money, but not at the expense of having fun in the process. Perhaps a series of plateaus would be appropriate--up to X listings or dollars per year for X fee, tiered so that larger sellers pay more than us little guys, but we are still able to afford to be involved. Thanks for opening this up for input, and I hope that mine is useful in some way.1 point

Considering the technic crawler LE and Delorean both came out at the start of this month I highly doubt Lego is that worried about people holding off1 point

Most limited, sequentially manufactured collectible prime numbers are pre allocated to design team/sales incentives or charity. I guarantee 1-100, 500, 1000,10000,20000 19999 at the least were culled. I don't believe the sets were manufactured sequentially, but the bricks were printed that way. I bet the primes were then culled, and the rest of plates were put in a vibratory hopper to be added at random on one of the heat seal/cartoner lines.1 point
