Maybe Emazers is the VP of sales! Trying to get us to buy all those expensive sets and then he will have LEGO keep them around for another 10 years!!!! :P3 points

I worked in a Walmart deli my first year of college. Some of my coworkers had such poor math skills that when a customer would request say 2/3 pound of sliced meat, they would ask THE CUSTOMER if that was more or less than half a pound. God bless America.2 points

I have 2 AFOL co-workers that snatched up the rest after I shared info (the Walmart is right across the street from us). 3 very happy fellas vs. 1 lucky ('slightly greedy') fella...easy choice in my book. Of course, I grabbed the 2 that had the best looking boxes.2 points

Seems like just another way that LEGO is fighting off the reseller. While I have no faults with giving out winning tickets to children only, making a big show and raffle to only waste people's time is really unfair to the non-children looking for these figures for non-monetary reasons. Honestly these exclusives should just be first runs of minifigs that will later appear in sets. The kids winning one at the con will feel special, the die hard collectors will be able to get one later in stores, and the resellers can't ruin the price pointa on ebay. Everybody wins?2 points

You gotta realize though, they've been doing this for years... This year's backlash was the worst. In all honesty, and with so much sincerity, I think everybody who is truly mad about this really just needs to suck it up. You guys can disagree with me all you want, but really people need to grow up. This whole minifigure fiasco has made grown men and women act like total babies. So, you didn't get a minifigure you wanted? Who cares? Life goes on. Go build a Tower Bridge so you can get over it.2 points

If they didn't have any giveaways hardly anyone would go to their booth. Its Comic Con not LEGO con. People visit the booths for freebies.2 points

I don't think any of that is true, but I'm not going to argue. The first minecraft run was indeed 10,000. But they never said they were *only* making 10,000. I'm sure the plan was to make the 10,000, see how they sold, and then make more if warranted. Had it been a dud, they wouldn't have made more. Either way, this has absolutely nothing to do with a super duper special contest set where they specifically said they're making 20,000 numbered editions, and only 20,000.2 points

Here is my inventory, I'm able to fit it all inside of the original shipping box from LEGO! My goal is to start building inventory from now until Fall of 2014. Once I have built the inventory up at discounted prices then I will begin to unload once sets start to go EOL. Once that is going, hopefully by 2016 I will be able to pull out my initial investments, then the LEGO hobby will be self sustaining and generating its own cash flow.1 point

I think the 75021 Republic Gunship will be a winner after it retires. (I bought it the other day at a Target and opened it for my collection. It is super cool.) The previous two gunships have done very well on the secondary market. The 7163 Republic Gunship goes for around $225.00 new and its retail price was $89.99. (It was released in 2002.) The 7676 Republic Attack Gunship is fetching $317.56 new and retailed for $119.99. That's a CAGR of 21.49%! (It was released in 2008.)1 point

FINALLY! i know it isn't the "best" found this month or last but it was nice to finally leave a Target with SOMETHING Lego on clearence. 9 MF Werewolfs $9.98 each 9 MF Vamp Hearse $17.48 each 1 Marvel QAB for $34.98. I had two but gave one to a child with mom I would have gladly gave a Hearse or Werewolf but her son wasn't interested. I missed out in 5 Orc Forges for $32.xx. Surprisingly the Monster Frankenstein set is still retail as were 2 Ghost Trains and 2 Helm's Deep. Some guy found them before me and was bragging when he saw my cart. I mumbled "tool" under my breath. So many mothers were looking at me during checkout. One even stopped by and asked what I was buying. Maybe they all thought I'm handsome and what a closer look at yours truly.1 point

Honestly I would avoid the games like the plague. Unless you are after the unique parts in the set, it isn't something you will see big returns on.1 point

Agreed, by the time I hope to sell the 41999 I will be able to purchase a Opera House or Ewok Village with those earnings.1 point

I started parting it out the day the LR train set was released. I was very pleased with the profit. I probably went through 20 trains. I stopped about three weeks ago. Track and cars go fast. Your profit is the mini figures. After the movie tanked the figures stopped selling. Of course you can come down in price, but you start to loose your profit and then it starts to not be worth it.1 point

The first edition run of 10179 was 20,000+. And the difference is, they never said they were only making the limited edition, and then changed. They specifically said that only the first run would be limited and that there would be more. And they never said how many would be in the first edition run either. I quote "This Exclusive First Edition set includes an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity, only available until the first production quantity is gone1 point

Hi, The question says it all really - I've just acquired some loose lego 2nd hand that all says 'Pat. Pending' on it. If I sold this loose, by the kg/lb for example should I expect a higher return compared to doing the same with modern bricks, or is it worth the same, or perhaps even less? Being a huge technic fan, I consider this my falcon of the tech line. I had the falcon like 3 times, I'd sell it any day of the week for more of these. Also heard this set was going to be like the bwing lots of flippers but is my browser broken because I only see 6 auctions on eBay.., ? Anyone else see that?1 point

Says the collector who payed around $160 for a SDCC 2012 Bizarro and then $600 for a Black Suit Superman. :cheese:1 point

I hit 3 Targets this am while the system was down. No additional mark downs. On my way home this evening,I hit the same 3 stores. 2 had done further mark downs. 1 didn't. One of the 2 that had the mark downs did not change the price stickers on any of the sets. I am so glad I started scanning the sets. Some of my highlights were 5 VCs @ $49 each 7 Log Cabins @ $18 each 2 Bikini Bottoms @ $14 each 2 Quinjets @ $34 each1 point

I think what you will see with this set is something similar to the 10179. There will be the first 20,000 sets released, with specially marked plates, then LEGO will reassess the sales of the set. The 10179 had the First Edition run of 10,000, then sold a whole bunch more. I don't think this set will explode in growth like the Falcon, but it could be a very strong performer nonetheless.1 point

Also, as a real world example, take Orc Forge. LEGO listed it as "Retiring Soon" which means per LEGO's website "no new stock will be made". Now, it's coming back.1 point

I prefer that or an "only kids" giveaway rather than a less than honest raffle where not everyone has the same chances of winning.1 point

I'm thinking this exact same thing. All of the commenters on FTBT seem to still be whining even after this press release. Say goodbye to the SDCC exclusives..1 point

Let's keep in mind that LEGO isn't obligated to do any giveaways so don't be surprised that this might be the last time we see any giveaways at future events.1 point

Wait---lego marketing, outreach and social media relations folks are reading lego forums? Shocked! Anyone still think I am a conspiracy nut when i said they were watching this forum months ago. My nephew works for GE--electronics. And is paid to sit in a chair all day reading forums and posts on home improvements/contractor sites, and "trolling" HD and Lowes sites reading reviews on their products and collating the data. There are 6 in his dept! Mass media marketing /social media specialist. All big companies have them. During their down time they get names from HR of potential candidates and they search book face, and google searches as pre-pre background checks. Intranetz skills pays! Hi Lego!1 point

Well, that's your opinion. I hope for your sake then those Tower Bridges don't come falling down.1 point

So LEGO has an official response about this issue. Very interesting stuff. http://brickfanatics.co.uk/lego-respond-to-sdcc-raffle-issue/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+brickfanatics+%28Brick+Fanatics%291 point

The Helm's Deep was only made until May, The Epic battle is all year, so you no lego is making these 24/7 for the Christmas Rush, Unless you got these dirt cheap, I would not try and sell them this Christmas, just wait they will go up in Value thats why we say it takes about 2 years to make some good money.1 point

I think we should categorize under a new theme called "ten." Star Wars is great, but Star Wars UCS is money. Creator is great, but Creator Expert is money.1 point

BTW...Need 21016 set....great dilio @BAM!....got online coupon $10.00 off with $50.00.....Code: btsge2 Totally worse it....got 2x$31.501 point

Again. It depends on the time frame in which you intend to sell within. I agree that you can make a lot on those sets, but there are other options to make money. Completely different situation. The B-Wing was a clearance, this is a launch of an exclusive.1 point

I think the question to ask is "are there only going to be 20k total?" I have to imagine that the potential ROI is heavily dependent on the answer. You think LEGO customer service would know?1 point

This is wrong - here is the exact quote from the Lego S@H site (you're welcome to check for yourself - it's bullet point #5 under Product Summary tab):1 point

Here's a pic of the Jewelry Box from the LEGO Store calendar: P.S. Looking closer at the Jewelry Box, I do see some exclusive pieces on there: - There's the Red Ladybugs, which are only found in Olivia's House and Olivia's Treehouse. (There's Yellow Ladybugs too in 3 other Friends sets: Heartlake City Pool, HL Vet, and the Summer Riding Camp.) - And there's the LF Logo tile, which may or may not be the same as this one. Thoughts: Neither of the above pieces are in high demand on BrickLink. If you buy Olivia's House or Treehouse, the Red Ladybugs come in one of those perforated mini bags with a bunch of other accessories like butterflies and different types of flowers, and at the moment it seems like the flowers are more in demand than the bugs are. Also, there's not much play value in a jewelry box. An event exclusive like the TRU Wishing Well from last March at least can fit into a "scene". P.P.S. Here's a pic of the Wishing Well with Emma next to it holding a popsicle:1 point

I cannot help but think that this website, plus other lego fan website and the influence of Youtube is a determining factor of what we are seeing here with this set. Look how many new members each day are being added. I'm sure Ed can speak to the volume of traffic his site is receiving. Hell I was stymied several times this morning trying to access the forums here. I am almost certain it has to do with this topic. Lego is going to have to come to terms with what we are seeing with their popularity right now. The best comparison I can come up with is the Beanie Baby craze of the late 90's. Now granted, Legos are not Beanie Babies and have more instrinsic value than a plush animal toy but we are seeing something here that cannot be discounted. There is a risk that Lego is going to anger their core fan base and customers with things like this happening. Folks thought I was off about predicitng the server crash at midnight but that's eaxctly what happened. I am sure there's a lot of conferencing going on at TLG this morning about what happened. I am certain they never expected this sort of thing. And if happened now, with a Technic set I imagine it can happen again with another set in the future. At this point in time there seems to be a mania associated with Lego. This thread alone has 19 pages and it's in a Technic forum. Are there any other threads that are this active? Even the thread about the B-wing early retirement pales in comparison, or the Orc Forge or Helms deep or Target's supposed July clearance sale (that never happened). I have a gut feeling this sort of thing is going to happen again. And what is going to result is more resentment from Lego customers that want to buy sets for actual play and NOT investing. You're going to see even more animosity towards the Lego investor. That may not be something you want to hear as a frequenting member to this site but it could result in an unintended backlash. And I do want one (just one) of these set.....but I want it to build.......as anathema as that may seem to many of you.1 point

I was at SDCC and got a whole set of Super Heroes. I believe, without question, that the raffle was rigged. I don't think they only gave them to kids, but it was kid-heavy and they were intentionally trying to prevent groups from getting multiples. The whole process was very fishy. If they want to hand them to kids, fine, do that. But don't have a fake raffle. Not to mention the fact that SDCC is an adult event if they want to promote the product to kids, do it a place where the children are in mass.1 point
