  1. So today, July 25th, is my mom's birthday. She knew I was going to get her something LEGO related and had originally wanted the Cinema Palace since I'm in college for Film. However, she hasn't built a LEGO set since I was about 4 or 5 years old. I thought a 2000 some piece count would be slightly too advanced for her right now, but I still wanted to get her a larger set. So, since today is Christmas in July I decided to play up that aspect hardcore. First I wrapped the set: Then I gave it to her: Her reaction was great, haha: I think she is going to have a blast building this set. I would normally build a set this size in 2-3 days. I'm estimating she will be done with it.... at Christmas. Perfect timing! Maybe it will keep her busy and prevent her from calling me when I go back to school. (P.S. hoping this post finally nets me a photographer's award haha.)

  3. The reason he told you is b/c drop shipping is not illegal and almost every company has someone who does drop shipping for them. Basically it works like this...XYZ company says...Hell yeah I'll give you a small cut if you can sell my product for me (Affiliate marketing is the same thing...which this website and millions other use) Many times, people have to pay to be part of these drop shipper clubs where they get access to millions of products to sell. ....dude goes out and works hard to sell XYZ company's product and the company gets a sale....dude makes some $$...person gets product they want. What's the problem? Nothing illegal here...no scam...no shady person...just a hard working person being a middle man. I hope people don't get mad at me for making a bit of cash when I sell them something. So when you put this dude on blast here on brickpicker b/c you don't think he should be making money for taking his time to post a product that someone obviously wanted / or maybe you think it is illegal, you might be hurting some honest guy working hard in a honest profession. Some people here mix up legal drop shippers with people who use stolen credit cards....which makes calling this dude a drop shipper like he did something wrong even more slanderous. We aren't the cops. I have been sold an item once with a stolen credit card and the dude had 700plus feedback. The two items i did buy that I THOUGHT might have been s scam were both people who sick family members and had to get rid of something fast so they signed up for ebay. They were new to ebay and for some reason i still talk to them both helping them with ebay so I know they aren't lying/scammers. (after I bought the item and got it asked them both why they were selling so cheap....i help them with pricing their stuff now.) I know every here thinks there are things that are common sense about how to post on ebay but not everyone does the research they should prior to posting an and sometimes people are desperate and just need to get rid of stuff. If one innocent person gets slandered or gets banned from ebay then this whole little witch hunt is sad.

  4. In reference to the Helm's Deep I was looking at.... You guys have no idea where these sets are coming from... Low feedback + cheap sets + stock pics do not always equal criminal even if you have NO DOUBT in your mind. Go ahead and keep playing jr detective. I've bought a ton of product from ads that look EXACTLY like these. As a matter of fact these looked just like the sellers I started helping. (Speaking of making the world a better place.) Maybe they are in a spot and need some $$$ for their sets...the fact of the matter is you have no idea. Maybe they don't have a camera...maybe they thought by putting up a stock photo they were giving a better photo than they could take. You might be right they might have stolen the sets or they might be using someone's card but they might just need the $$ and aren't very good with ebay. You can't say for certain...even if you THINK you can. Are they doing it wrong, yeah. Does that make them criminals, no. Could they be a criminal, yes. Could they just be someone who needs to unload their sets quickly and isn't ebay savy, yes. Does that mean you should report them, that's up to you. I also had to charge less for my first few sales. Edit And I certainly wouldn't be part of the problem by buying from someone the BP community does not approve of.

  5. My goodness. Take your time. I can't beleive you even have to make an excuse over this. This site is obviously a project and passion away from normal work, as is LEGO investing for most of us. As far as I am concerned, if you're not directly contributing to the work involved in updating and maintaining this site, you need to hold your tongue about how long new features take. Sorry if that comes off harsh to anyone, but demands or impatience made from the peanut gallery really, really get under my skin.

  6. How dare he! Trying to make money on the lego secondary market? Whatever you do...don't send him an invite here! We don't need "that kind" on our........site dedicated to making money on legos. ;>)

  7. I have been researching on lego building techniques and I found this guide The Unofficial LEGO Advanced Building Techniques Guide http://photos.freelug.org/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=33732 I'd like to know more places where I can find information on building techniques, such as videos, books, tutorials, and more. Thanks.

  11. the problem with the new sail barge is that it doesn't have the sarlacc pit and skiff, so it wouldn't be as interesting to display forever. i've got the old one on display now (that's where my avatar pic is from. i have boba flying using tissue paper and poster board underneath) and it makes for a very dynamic scene

Free expedited shipping. 50 feedback. One negative feedback, in which the buyer states that the seller is dropshipping with a stolen credit card.

  15. Also, I believe reporting a listing only results in eBay taking a closer look, so it's not really hurting anybody unless eBay decides there is something wrong going on.

  16. The credit companies and banks don't pay for the money they have to refund the original card owners. We consumers as a whole get the bill in the form of higher fees or less benefits eventually even if you don't notice it.
    1 point
  17. All im saying is the buyer wont lose out, he will get refunded. You have no basis with them listings to report him. Not a crime to have a stock picture(infact ebay encourage this), not a crime to not have a proper discription. I can gaurantee ebay wont pull any of them listing no matter how many reports they get
    1 point
  18. I agree with this, which is why I was saying that we only do this for sellers that pretty much fit all the criteria. If their listing has all of these bad factors and I email him and he admits to drop-shipping - nail in the coffin. If they have non of the other factors, I would never ask and never care one way or another. I don't ask everyone, I ask ones before I buy. If you look, I was saying if you are unsure, ask them. If they admit to drop-shipping it, you might want to not take the chance. I wasn't saying that was an admission of a scam, but a helpful way for people to know how to know if its risky

  20. Hello, some of you might have noticed the new BRICKPICKER CHAT feature. Jeff and I are testing it out and seeing what kind of responses we get from members. We will operate it from around 12 PM to 12 AM (Eastern Time Zone) so that we can monitor it and see if warrants becoming a permanent site feature. Let us know what you think...and as always, behave responsibly and treat others the way would would like to be treated. Thanks...

  22. To each their own... Nothing wrong with looking for scams... I am just pointing out that you guys better be sure before you go harassing people. I probably could have said it better. That's all. I didn't mean for everyone to get butt hurt. ebay protects everyone who buys from them.

  23. I am not sure where any of that is coming from. I have a couple of articles on the website about drop-shipping. I know what it is. I said before in several other posts that I only take that as bad with other things: like never selling Lego before, low feedback, non recent feedback, etc. I don't understand your point at all either. I mean, let's say we are wrong about one person. That's sad? How exactly? So we make one person re-list. On the other hand we can do nothing and all suffer from the price deflation. I know what drop-shipping is and I know it's not illegal. But 99% of the time, if you are doing it on Ebay, without any other Lego sets in the past, with low feedback, with stupid low prices - you are scamming.

  24. Here is an example of a set that is lower than MSRP that is most likely not a scam: He describes why. High feedback Describes shipping No long handling times: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEGO-Star-Wars-Super-Star-Destroyer-Executor-NIB-/221258724568?pt=Building_Toys_US&hash=item33840c34d8

  25. Its a scam because he has no supplier. Drop-shipping itself is not the scam. Buy it - and when you get it, you will see it is directly from Lego for way more than you paid because he bought it with a stolen credit card. He has no supplier. If he did, this wouldn't be the first Lego set that they ever sold with that account. It is 100% scam.

  26. Ebay is a good choice. Almost guaranteed to sell the set the quickest, depending on the price you set them at of course.

  28. I'd say Bricklink but agree with Jeff Mack, That if you want to move them quickly ebay is the better bet.
    1 point
  29. I would put my efforts into BrickLink. It is over all more well know, and has more traffic. Also, I think we don't know whether or not Brick Owl will last, and BrickLink has been around for the longest time.
    1 point
  30. Well the choice is yours. Brickowl will take a while for it to really kick in. They have done a good job and I am sure it will get better in time. It all depends on how badly you want/need to get rid of your sets. Chances are you sets will sit for a long time on both unless you price them cheap. eBay, regardless of fees is still the way to move sets due to how many eyes they have on it. We will have our own setup here in the near future which will have a different focus than all of these sites. It's really all up to you and what you think is best for your business.

  31. I would go with Bricklink as well. They have a very large LEGO fanbase and despite the older interface it still works well. Bricklink is the way to go.
    1 point
  32. Bricklink for sure. For now they are the only ones with a large LEGO focused customer base. Brick Owl might get better and more visited in the future, but for now I would stick with BL

  37. Here is an example of ads on the bottom of the forum index for a very busy and successful forum. The ads can be animated, and say whatever you need to get your point across. As you can see though, it can be quite eye catching to get you to notice and want to see what is going on at the shop, blog, etc.

  38. Here's a new idea: when someone posts a suspect listing, and you agree it's most likely a scam, leave a +1 if you report it. That way we know a- people agree on what to look for, and b- we're not spamming the thread with "I reported it too!" posts.

  39. Most of us buy non-necessities on a regular basis. A non-Lego friend might not be able to fathom why I spend $200 on a tiny brick building, and I can't fathom why she wastes her money on pedicures. Provided one is meeting one's financial obligations, preparing sensibly for the future and/or emergencies, and providing for themselves and/or their dependent family, what we all choose to pay unfathomable money on is pretty much an individual priority list.

  42. For $110 its a great buy, I am putting at least $1500 in these I have 12 already and I have a few more $20 coupons to get them for about $106 each which I will be getting 2 more Saturday, I think these will do way better than the Sopwith Camel, just check ebay for completed auctions on the old Camel, compared to the Volkswagen Beetle. I think $100 profit on the Camper once retired. Get some before they are gone. The Box art alone is what helps them sell. Ed

  44. I think it's pretty obvious that we will agree to disagree. No need to keep kicking the horse...it's dead. All I want is people to be careful before they put someone on blast. (It's not just to protect the innocent but yourself when you accuse the wrong person.) The message isn't that hard to understand. I am not a lawyer but I'd also be real careful before I affected someone's business unless I was 100% sure. There are libel and slander laws. People have been sued over tweets, blogs, angie's listing reviews etc and just about everything else for making untrue statements about a company/person. You better be certain...
