So I have been looking for a list of stores that sell LEGO sets. Is there a comprehensive list available? ** = They ship internationally XX = They DO NOT ship internationally ? = don't know if they ship internationally % = Only some sets 1. Lego.com - ** 2. Amazon.com - % 3 Target.com - XX 4. TRU.com - % 5 Shopko.com - ? 6. Sears.com - ? 7. Walmart.com - XX 8 Entertainmentearth.com - ** 9. westendtoys.com - ** 10. kmart.com - XX 11. Ebay.com (Other auction websites.) - % 12. Brickset.com - ? 13. toywiz.com - ? 14. bigbadtoystore.com - ? 15. meijer.com - ? 16. barnesandnoble.com - ** 17. bookamillion.com - ? 18. samsclub.com - ? 19. thinkgeek.com - ** 20. yoyo.com - ? 21. bricksandminifigs.com - ? 22. toysperiod.com - ? 23. chowrentoys.com - ? 24. theplasticbrick.com - ? 25 brickenvy.com - ? 26 firestartoys.com - ** 27. kiddiwinks.com - ? 28. brickarms.com - Custom Lego pieces - weapons etc - ? 29. brickmania.com - Custom lego kits - ? 30. brianstoys.com - ? 31. spareblocks.com - ? EDITS ADDITIONS: 32. Craigslist.com (Other trading websites.) - XX 33. listia.com - XX 34. Bricklink.com - **(depending on seller) 35. Brickforge.com - ** Ok so I know this isn't all of them. Which ones did I miss? (If I missed your store, it's your fault. Your marketing is terrible. I shop for Lego sets all the time, how have you stayed hidden?) I only went about ten pages deep on Google. 90% of these I have heard of before but I have not purchased from all of them. I figured this was a good start to the list. I will continue to add the suggestions people make to the list so you don't have to scroll through a ton of pages to get all the stores.* There are probably a million little sites that sell a few sets...lets try and keep it to those who have a regular, steady inventory. PS You're welcome. Unless someone has already done this type of thread...then I'm sorry. *Contingent upon me not getting lazy. Edit: I started a key for those that ship internationally. As pickers figure out who ships where, post it here.6 points

Ok, now that we have a separate topic for this, and thanks for doing that, I will talk about it. If I owned the store, I would, for obvious reasons, find it wrong and troubling, as I would be losing money on an item that I could/should have sold at retail. Myself, or my employees, though, should be doing their due diligence when they "face"(this was what we called moving product to the front of the rack when I worked in a grocery store in high school so that it looks good) the store and move out of place items back where they should be. People get away with hiding things if the store isn't keeping their products tidy. On the shopper end of it, I can see why people do it, especially kids. Maybe the kid doesn't get his allowance for another week and wants an item, so he hides it until he can get it next week. No real harm done there. The store gets its sale, the kid gets his toy. Did he keep another kid from getting it? Yeah, but there is no real crime committed, so I don't get too worked up about it. As for adults, it's going to be done in the name of money, and this is where the lines blur. I doubt Joe investor is hiding a set so that he can buy it next week for his son/daughter. He is hiding it so that he can come back at sale time and get the item for less than he would have normally paid for it, and this becomes a moral issue. It's not outright stealing, you're still paying for it, but if it was an item worth hiding, the store was going to be able to sell it for a higher price. In the end, it's not like I'm going to call the cops about product hiding, it's just not that big of a deal, and can be prevented if the store in keeping the store tidy and organized. Anybody that has been to Walmart knows that this is generally not the case, however. I will say this. I would NEVER do this. Not because of it being criminal, but because I have too much pride, and my name is worth too much to be embarrassed over hiding Lego, and being questioned over it. Anyone with a professional career that actually has something on the line to lose, I guess is it worth the risk? I say no.4 points

I'm going to toot my own horn for a minute and show off the Lego table I just built for my girls. Not all the drawers are in, but there is a trough in the front with holes so they can slide all the excess Legos directly into the top drawers. It was a fun build and they like it - plus it's a little more play area than the everyday play table.3 points

3 Lego Investors were walking in a Lego store when they were all knocked unconscious by a Brick Troller. When they woke up the troll said, each of you must go into the store and purchase 10 lego sets of the same item. The first man went in and bought 10 Minecraft sets. The troll said, if you are able to stick every set up your butt without making a facial expression, your life will be spared. He was killed shortly there after. The second man came out with 10 Collector's Minifigures. He was told the same thing. He had successfully completed 9 of the minifigures when he suddenly burst out laughing. He was killed shortly after. Upon arriving in heaven, God asked him, "what happened? You were so close, what made you start laughing?" He responded, "I was about to finish when I saw the 3rd man walk out with 10 Death Stars." Moral of the story, the Death Star is a pain in the ***. Note: I adjusted the story, which was originally about fruit. Replace minecraft with Grapefruit, CMF's with grapes, and the death star with a pineapple.2 points

As a fan of both mediums, I'd honestly choose the subscription if in your shoes. Why? Because you'll have something to do and look forward to for a full year as opposed to a Lego set that you will likely only build once or twice. I mean, how much will you do with a 30 dollar set spread across an entire year? I feel like even if you grabbed a larger set on clearance, you'd wear it out too quick even if you made some MOC's out of it. Just my two cents.2 points

For all the box snobs, I submit exhibit A: Cafe Corner, bruised, dented, open. Current bid is $125 over BP value. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-IN-BOX-LEGO-FACTORY-CAFE-CORNER-MODEL-10182-/121137300520?pt=Building_Toys_US&hash=item1c345884281 point

The set sold at $99 for only 4 days or so. The majority of the purchases were probably at $155 to $180 in the last yr. There is a chance this set will have less than 10-12 months of retail life. That is unheard of for UCS sets. This alone will drive up demand. Now if the set remains available for 16 months or longer, then it's a diff story.1 point

It's very, very, very difficult to make a reputable sales site for any merchandise. Bricklink has done a wonderful job over the years giving the LEGO fan a place to but parts and sets. Contrary to some opinions out there about the outdated look and overall navigation of the site, Bricklink worked very well, most of the time. Competitors will come and go and our plan for the Brick Classifieds has morphed over the last several months. Regardless of whatever anybody else does with other LEGO sales sites, you will not beat our fees to post LEGO items. Many members will have a chance to post items for FREE. Active BrickPicker members may never pay anything to advertise their listings on our site if things go as planned. Jeff has been sidetracked with many issues(new forums, blogs and non-US data), but the Brick Classifieds are back on the front burner...1 point

There is this fable place called the library where people borrow books for free (gasp!!) Some are known to have rather extensive collections of trade paperbacks and even manga. While others have the ability to borrow materials from other libraries.. Perhaps it is time to look for such place1 point

To answer more directly to the original post: Yes I buy some for investment. No, I can't think of an instance where opening a CMF bag is more valuable than keeping it sealed (using the "smoosh" or gentle caress, you can identify the minifig inside its bag without having to tear it open). The success of flipping a CMF really depends on a few things. The ratio at which each is provided by LEGO (these vary greatly, from 5-6 per 60 to only 1-2 per 60), and the eventual popularity of the minifig (obviously). Identifying the popular minifigs is sometimes the difficult part of making these worth anything as an investment. What becomes a popular fig may not necessarily be what you think is the coolest. Other popular figs are what become "army builders", or figs that would be needed in great quantities to make a scene. A couple notable examples of all of these factors aligning are the Series 2 "Spartan" and the Series 6 "Roman Soldier". Both were fairly uncommon grabs, and made great army builders (for a great 300 MOC, or for a Roman Phalanx, etc). So they were cool, in short supply, and encouraged army building. Bingo. That is why each of these figs commands around $15.00 a pop nowadays. Not bad for a $3.00 or less investment depending on your entry point. Out of series 10, I've found good success with Medusa. She is, in my opinion, the coolest fig out of this line. A great, simple design, and a dual-face for showing a plain look or an angry look. It also helps that she's only found at a 1-2 per 60 ratio. Aside from all of these factors, Series 1 and 2 CMF bags tend to be of higher value, not only because they are the oldest, but they are the lines which saw the lowest production quantities. LEGO wasn't confident (neither were the retailers) in the success of the CMF line, so the first 2 series weren't printed in the kind of batches we see with Series 3 onwards after the line proved a huge success.1 point

Here's my two cents. If you're going to make the argument that the deal is always out there, I'm going to flat out tell you that you are wrong. Some of the members live in very affluent, upscale towns and cities. Places LEGO either sells strong or sells out. To say you just have to drive around harder is ignorance. I have gotten some insane deals, and I mean insane. 60 percent or more off is an easy thing to hit here come clearance time. I work hard at it, yes. I hit every Walmart, Target and Kmart within 45 minutes of me roughly every week or two. I like the thrill of finding an epic haul. Sometimes I'm at my 24hr Walmarts at 1 or 2 in the morning. But don't confuse things. My hard work only pays off because I live in a poor area of the U.S., one of THE poorest actually, and most people down here who are struggling to make gas, food, or rent money can't afford the high MSRPs of LEGO. So, they sit on the shelf until they have to move in the next line, and in comes the clearance deals. If I tried to replicate this back home in Atlanta, I can assure you my success wouldn't be anywhere near what I'm used to, even with more effort put in on my part. The fact is, some people will get lucky, some will get more out if they put more work in, but the true deciding factor determining your LEGO profitability aside from working captial is going to be the place, and thus the market, you live in.1 point
