  1. That...is a fantastic story. Like, probably the best story I've heard about Lego. Thank you for sharing, and welcome to the site.

  2. I think it`s really weird that I`ve never had a piece missing. I`ve thought I`d been missing one or two here and there, but after taking a closer look, they would turn up. Truly random packaging faults. On another note, this reminds me of when my dog chewed several of my pieces at one point ( 8-9 years ago), including a first edition Yoda figure, and I wrote a letter to Lego explaining what had happened. A couple weeks later, I got a typed note, personalized to me (they responded to every detail I had written individually), and a little plastic bag with a new Yoda and each of the 5 or so parts I had described. What other company goes out of their way to replace parts that were damaged by something that had nothing to do with the factory/shipping? Going back to missing parts, Lego`s reputation is too good overall to risk not ensuring that everyone gets the parts they need. I`ll always be grateful for whomever it was that read my chicken-scratch, child-like handwriting and decided to reply so kindly.

  3. That is great! I hope this cuts down on the daily new topics about old topics being posted.

  4. Yeah I'm not a fan of questions like this, and I've seen a lot of them pop up lately. It's painfully obvious for any investor in anything that narrowing your choices to a Black or White decision is a bad idea. Invest in LOTR, or Monster Fighters? The Answer is Yes. Sell on Ebay or Bricklink? The answer is Yes. Quick flip or long term invest? The answer is Yes. Small, Medium or Large? The answer is Yes. Diversifying everything you do, selling strategies, set choice, size choice, sourcing, etc will protect you from an "all eggs in one basket" problem. I build my portfolio to cover a little of everything, small quick flips, long term investments, small easily mailable polybags, parts to part out on Bricklink, etc. I've even started selling custom mobile frame MOCs I do myself. The only universal advice I can give that should benefit anyone, is to keep your entry price point as low as possible, and on a related note, always be looking for the deal. Online, at retailers, or locally. Always. Be. On. The. Hunt. There's boats setting sail everyday. Blink and you'll miss the next one.

  5. Ah heck, I might as well be honest and say go with the Haunted House just for this reason. I love those classic b-movies!

  6. Man, you all are spoiled. All I got for my birthday was this: http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=30106-1

  7. Either of your first two choices would be awesome to me (I have neither so can't speak to the builds). Palace Cinema b/c it screams old-school Hollywood---I used to manage a small chain of movie theaters so it has major appeal to me. Haunted House b/c who doesn't love scary monsters---also a bit of old Hollywood monster magic appeal to me as well. Robie House--meh, never heard of it until I saw it in Lego form.

  10. I should get some more small sets then I was thinking of some creator sets after a recent article on here. Yes it's all one piece. Mine is only 95% complete though and it's going for a whole 99p at the moment. Exactly. I used RRP in my original example for ease of calculation. I actually got 4 9469s for 52% off. ( not fair emoticons don't work on IOS devices. ) unless you know the code.

  11. http://www.nowinstock.net/toys/lego/ Found the above site just now. It doesn't give EOL dates per say; but, it shows which stores run out of stock first and which stores have the last of stock if you are scrambling.

  15. Check it out. Bilko on brickset sent in this image of the Gingerbread Man. Heh, is that head funky or what? I doubt it will look exactly like that though but definately wonder what it will end up being in real life. Course they did design the Clockwork Robot's rather square head.

  16. Somewhat related and amusing, here is an official instructional video for lending used games to friends on the next Playstation console. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWSIFh8ICaA And one for XBOX One. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLmKpV0i8t4

  18. Now that sounded hilariously biblical! "The meek shall inherit the Earth with bags of plastic that make crinkly noises when smooshed....and stuff!"

  19. Too many little sets? TOO MANY LITTLE SETS? Preposterous! The polybag will inherit the earth, and on occasion, your local stocking or party favor assortment....

  20. I apologize for the dumb question but I am new to looking at Train sets but I am expanding my LEGO knowledge in this direction but are all the tracks compatible with one another?

  21. I chose the HH, but maybe I'm biased because I'm such a big fan of the old Universal Monster Movies. I like the Palace Cinema too, but not as much. Here's a random off-topic fun fact: Clint Eastwood made his big screen acting debut with a small part in the sequel to Creature from the Black Lagoon!

  22. Palace Cinema - If you like modular houses and something that looks like Sid Grauman's Chinese Theater. Haunted House - If you like Halloween builds and watched The Munsters as a kid. Robie House - If you like sets filled with tiny pieces....and they're all red. It is one of the nicest looking Architecture builds though. Well if all else fails, you could always resort to the ol' tried and true method of "eeney, meeney, miney, moe".

  24. My birthday was Monday and my wife got me the haunted house. Built it with my son and just finished it tonight. It really is a cool set and a lot of fun to build! Told her this was the best gift she has gotten me in years! She said at least she knows what to get me from now on.

  28. I'm so guilty. The better the clearance deals are, the harder time I have passing them up when I'm already tied up/down/however which way you want to put it. Ever since I came here, I see LEGO sets as potential dollars instead of my building bricks. It got so bad I had to sit down and make something like I used to just to snap out of it. And then I listed my creation on Ebay. Oh the shame.

  30. I bought my local Target's very last 9494 "Anakin's Jedi Interceptor". This is my very first LEGO purchase ever. I'm 26. This is my very first post on here. Should I open it and build it or save it and re-sell it?

  31. Here's my two cents. If you're going to make the argument that the deal is always out there, I'm going to flat out tell you that you are wrong. Some of the members live in very affluent, upscale towns and cities. Places LEGO either sells strong or sells out. To say you just have to drive around harder is ignorance. I have gotten some insane deals, and I mean insane. 60 percent or more off is an easy thing to hit here come clearance time. I work hard at it, yes. I hit every Walmart, Target and Kmart within 45 minutes of me roughly every week or two. I like the thrill of finding an epic haul. Sometimes I'm at my 24hr Walmarts at 1 or 2 in the morning. But don't confuse things. My hard work only pays off because I live in a poor area of the U.S., one of THE poorest actually, and most people down here who are struggling to make gas, food, or rent money can't afford the high MSRPs of LEGO. So, they sit on the shelf until they have to move in the next line, and in comes the clearance deals. If I tried to replicate this back home in Atlanta, I can assure you my success wouldn't be anywhere near what I'm used to, even with more effort put in on my part. The fact is, some people will get lucky, some will get more out if they put more work in, but the true deciding factor determining your LEGO profitability aside from working captial is going to be the place, and thus the market, you live in.

  32. Yes, the initial overhead to start up on this can be a major pain! But we all wish you the best of luck, if your store takes off I will definitely come visit!
