dcdfan
Damn....I was betting on complete opposite...I would LOVE it if that was the case but I think people would want the "new & improved." I would have no problem being wrong though for sure.
stephen_rockefeller
I haven't looked on ebay yet but I'm sure resellers are selling with the headline "new and improved box". Lol as long as the piece count is the same I don't think there will be much difference. It's all about how resellers hype it though I guess. marcandre
I wonder if the new box has numbered bags. This is one of the few sets left that did not.
Pseudoty
I wonder if the new box has numbered bags. This is one of the few sets left that did not.good point and will they be the new numbered bags with the stripe down the middle. That would mean a change to the instructions as well. I picked up a Ferris Wheel 39R5 from the lego store on Thursday and it still has the same Expert logo on the box.
exciter1
I'm trading all of mine in for the new boxed versions.
dcdfan
Instock @ Walmart. Who needs the new boxes?
JRandall
2-3 more years probably but it will still be a good investment if you have time. They must have factored in current sales vs the costs of a new design and production line and didn't have the approval to move on to the next large set. inversion
Box redesign is expensive, whether you believe it or not. It is a change in the production chain and has to be planned for months in advance. LEGO would not do such an investment if it would retire any time soon. It is a fairly good seller in its category.

Although I tend to agree with this statement, I've also seen companies that are flush in cash / capital do ridiculous and irrational things with their resources even if its just for branding or marketing purposes.
soopaman15
I'm not an expert but how expensive are we talking corvette or Bugatti?Moving around images that they already own to fit on a box they currently use can't be be all that costly for a graphic designer on payroll can it?
Huskers1236
And... silently SOH is leaving the building. That would be awesome. The panic that would set in for another large set riding into the sunset without warning would send some to cardiac arrest. See: Town Hall thread. I think, best case scenario, SOH is the next Medieval Market Village (a great set IMO, but apparently AFOL's have no love for medieval times). Huskers1236
If only SOH were another TH. I think, best case scenario, SOH is the next Medieval Market Village (a great set IMO, but apparently AFOL's have no love for medieval times).I don't see these two as similar at all, right now at least. MMV was around for like 5 or 6 years. I mean, it was from the Fantasy Era Castle line and retired just a year or so ago. I agree with you, it was an amazing set that suffered from being around forever. SOH is another of a line of iconic global locations that has a following, look at how many collectors pine for an Eiffel Tower or Taj Mahal. It doesn't appear to be as popular as some as it's predecessors, but at the same time if it checks out soon it will have been around way less than Tower Bridge. At $300+, it will also be hoarded very little. I have not built it (yet) but have seen it in person and it's a great set and I think the designers did a great job with some very difficult lines to recreate. As for Town Hall, everybody thought that was the worst modular ever made until it started to disappear. I see very similar sentiment for Sydney Opera House. cmartin33
Can anyone verify what they changed on the new box? Did they just change the printing on the box or did they change both the printing and box thickness?
chipbee
Are you sure? Box printing nowadays is very fast and fully digital, it is as easy as sending the image file to the printers. The only tedious part is to get the executives to approve the final box design, which is not really tough in this case as the front picture is largely the same. No more than usd 20k spent on this box redesign, i would say. SOH is not a pretty model, due to limitation of bricks to recreate the curved structure. I doubt it will be highly sought after like taj mahal or eiffel tower.
jaylay
Also would like to know new box dimensions. If the box is smaller and the contents group tighter it will help decrease the number of crushed boxes. Less dead space. Also would like to know new box dimensions.
