Locutus001
So I finally built mine and I see how people are disappointed. Still I think it's a nice set, though it has A LOT of things that need to be improved. I mean seriously, I don't even get my Doc Brown Minifig into the car... it just does not fit... or maybe I've just been too stupid with my 5 tries I don't know... The roof just seems to be a little bit to low... or the door gets into the way... (or rather the head gets into the way of the door...). But okay... I got mine and thus I can modify it as much as I like ;-) (Or even build another one and use the cool parts that I really need). Reading about the designer (30years working for LEGO!!!) I'm always wondering: Okay so why isn't he actually improving the original design but impairs it? (Or as we say in German: "verschlimmbessern") I guess the answer is obvious: The designers must design the sets for a specific price range rather than bring them to perfection. At least that's my thinking.

At least that's my thinking. It gets even worse when you compare it to the ecto 1 ** sigh ** And you're right. Minifigs hardly fit in. Every time I look at those pics makes me more depressed they didn't make a UCS out of that gullwinged car. minicoopers11
Quality of build improves investment potential, to be sure. However, don't forget about the power of exclusive minifigures. How many here think Cloud City was a fantastic build?
DoNotInsertIntoMouth
And the movie is such a cult classic. There are so many people I know that I have this just because they are BTTF fans, not Lego. Its going to be a winner. Maybe not quadruple, but its a $75-$100 set after retirement. Locutus001
I did make one minor change to the front using a light bley 1x8 door rail. ImageUploadedByBrickpicker Forum1409162691.964922.jpg ImageUploadedByBrickpicker Forum1409162710.363881.jpg ImageUploadedByBrickpicker Forum1409162722.064515.jpg ImageUploadedByBrickpicker Forum1409162737.149675.jpg After (a while ago) seeing jaisonline modifications (which I really liked) I bought some 1x8 door rail pieces and modified my DeLorean Time Machine myself. I'm pretty satisfied with the results. Just where the window is I had the feeling that something was amiss and my solution is far from being perfect... but somehow I still like it more than leaving this area "naked" ;-) Here are some pictures so that you can see what I did and how it looks. I added: -Some smooth elements on the doors lifting arms (or however you call it... ) -a 1x1 brick and a 1x4 brick both black underneath the door because of -a 2x6 brick on the roof underneath the smooth brick (+ two 1x2 smooth bricks) and additionally two 1x2 bricks to elevate the roof even more (just on top of the flux capacitor and the bricks behind it). -an angular smooth 1x1 brick on both sides (rear mirror) and I replaced the smooth black 1x1 bricks with those round smooth silver 1x1 bricks -a 1x2 silver grid behind the... eh... binoculars brick thingy on the roof - and those bricks you can see where the window is situated Now it does not only look better/cooler (at least to me ;-) ) but there's also enough space to put Doc Brown into the car. Maybe even both minifigs but I guess putting one minifig inside already is a great achievement ;-P Thanks again to everybody who posted his modifications, without I probably would not even have had the idea to modify anything. I feel much more pleased with my result now than with the original design of the set.
Cross
I don't know thte name of the Lego designer on the Tumbler, but can only imagine that artist's touch on the DeLorean. Great thread and thoughts on the Deloarean, and awesome custom work displayed above. The strength of the cult film will carry this model regardless; dissapointing it's representation is so medicocre. Ecto-1 nails it.
Locutus001
So I've just seen this one comment on amazon.com where the guy gave 1 star (or zero...) because he really doesn't like what LEGO did there... He writes: " Disappointing what can I say the best part of this set is the minifigures but the vehicles are lacking in detail the minifigures do not fit inside the vehicles the doors do not open regardless I made a better lego version if you are interested send me a note and I will provide you with a link." I made a better lego version if you are interested send me a note and I will provide you with a link I made a better lego version better lego version then he posted that link in the following comments: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEGO-DeLorean-DMC-BTTF-Back-to-the-Future-custom-9468-9464-76004-21103-10229-Fig-/121364891685?ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=9Ukx8B%252FrQMW7SVZsYtALg9XJCMY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc I don't wanna say that his DeLorean custom made version doesn't come with a certain charme... but I wouldn't go as far as to call it "better" ***** just in case the link vanishes I'll provide you with some pictures ^.^

minicoopers11
Hahaha! "THIS CREATION IS A UNIQUE BLUE PRINT" "One of the coolest, most awesome looking lego creations you will ever see on eBay" "Be the owner of ONE OF A KIND CREATION Nothing like it sold in ANY STORE" And I love how the starting bid is $39.98 with $4.98 shipping. And apparently you only get the lame minifigure if you buy it now... "MINIFIGURE ADDED IF YOU BUY IT NOW" "Includes minifigure" How many different fonts and text colors did he use?! Sheesh! zskid00
Didn't this sell out a couple months ago and then come right back? Not that it couldn't be done for good. Heading to Amazon to pick up a couple more for now.

Shi Guy
Stopped in the local Lego Store this afternoon and found this set on the shelves on sale for $27.99. I was in a different Lego store yesterday afternoon and it appeared that they no longer had a spot on their shelves for the kit.

airwalker12
How does everyone feel the DeLorean will do? I feel like it is a pretty safe bet to get a good ROI, and it should be gone by end of 2015.

jaisonline
I ordered 2 last week and another pair today from Amazon. Amazon limits . It appears done. Now let's see if the ugly design will be ignored by collectors and turn this set into the Ugly Duckling. I have an "ok" amount and very happy the sets don't take up too much space. Our target customers, newbie AFOLS, won't care if it is not perfect. Legendary movies with a big fanbase. Current (spoiled) AFOLS already own this set.
