WildBricks
That sounds like a great idea. Any pictures/links you can share?
weakside
Ok...hope the picture shows up. Just found it on brickblogger. I'm sure there's more versions and unique builds...some folks are really talented.
WildBricks
I'm curious if they just bought three or four sets to make this modular compilation. It looks pretty good. Are there any pictures for the inside?
weakside
No pics regarding the interior. Personally, for a smaller modular type building I would care less about the interior vs the exterior and whether it looks good with the other buildings/street. If the real creator or someone sold this building for a 'reasonable price' with all the bricks/instructions in bags I would buy it for sure. There's many other customs builds online...the Chilli's Restaurant is my favourite I don't have a big collection of bricks myself or ever ordered before so simple kits would be useful for buyers like me. As a side note, my 5yr old loves using the spare brinks we do have to build his vehicles and things...it's funny/scary because I tell friends/family he's a Lego Weapon's Specialists because he loves to custom build prison's, attack mode looking vehicles, weapon's, etc. I know all parents say this but I'm amazed by what he builds everyday...sometimes I don't want him to break apart his creations so I can use the 'kragle' lol. But he needs to break stuff apart to build new things and will fuel his imagination.
WildBricks
Yes, my son called me Lord Business the other day after I told him he could not open and play will all of my Lego sets. I promised I would not use the kragle... Edited April 13, 2015 by WildBricks
TheOrcKing
Anybody here attempted it yet or can share experience, ideas, pictures, or tips? I haven't but I know another member who did here and here are a couple expanded Bike Shop & Cafe MOCs I found the other day to boot. banshee3
The more of these I see, the less I like the idea of creating full-blown modular sized buildings out of the set. I think the design plays better into a half-modular play style. I was excited to see them (almost) continue with the theme in the toy store 31036. In reality they cut corners and botched the toy store set so much that it is an insult to the 31026 set. other sets I've been looking at that might fit into the same scale though, town square, heartlake mall, daily bugle, maybe avengers tower. I just think that trying to scale it up just doesn't fit the design, and eliminates some of the play functions. I have to admit that last one looks decent though.
TheOrcKing
I have seen some of the normal Creator houses get the modular treatment and I think it takes a certain something for the whole thing to work otherwise the new build can come across like the builder simply 'blew up' the base design either without adding anything really new to the table or went in the opposite direction with actually taking away from the core idea. The official Bike Shop & Cafe main model of two structures featured a fair amount of detail despite having very small interiors. The Toy & Grocery Store was practically half that previous set in basically being only one building of the same size and limited interior. Perhaps if LEGO also made the Toy & Grocery Store an $80-$90 set by including a second structure, it could have added more beside the Bike Shop & Cafe. While I do like the style the main design Toy & Grocery Store has, it is rather small and I find myself more attracted to the two alternate builds of a post office and a newsstand as those seem more complete of an idea all around to me.Well anyway, I found another 'modularization' by a builder whose build looks rather similar to what Weakside posted further up. http://www.flickr.com/photos/125221542@N03/sets/72157645786617840/Lego Creator Modular Bike Shop and Cafe by Magma.Xenoliths
ED-209
I was just curious if both the alternative builds can be built at the same time. Ie; the car shop and flower/blue house.Or do they share parts, and only one can he built at once?

Each of the models share a good amount of the included pieces therefore only one at a time is possible without bringing anything outside of the set to fill in the required parts to build the other designs for display at the same time. cladner
SOLD OUT at shop at home. Sort of surprised. I bought a few of these at 40% discount at a walmart and popped them open to build and for MOC parts which are they are chock full of. fantastic variety of windows. Fun little build but nothing like a modular, still chock full of useful pieces. Not sure what to make of these as an investment though. Val-E
Just realised that myself now, amazed no one else has commented. I think most people wrote these off as investments but a shortish life could yet save it, especially now it seems there will be a lineof these. Are we missing out on the next Cafe Corner or is this just another run-of-the-mill Creator playset?

I kind of expected this to be a Black Friday deal at Target ala last year's Family House. Most target's around me are loaded with these at the moment. I'm tempted to get a few for investing since i opened the 4 i got on discount but am waiting to see what BF leaks reveal before I snag anymore. 5 cents per brick is usually my threshold for dabbling in non-exclusive creator investing. worst case scenario with these - never need to buy white or black windows again. only exclusive part in this set: 3 exclusive minifigures: Edited November 6, 2015 by cladner

The anticipation of PS or PC and many exclusive sold out/retirement and the Brick Bank news over shadowing this one? I have a few stocked up, but waiting to see if this will be a black friday item before I load up a few more. With the deli cafe coming, I think this will yield an alright return. Sozial
I bought some of these at an unusuaI 50% sale here in germany. I do not think its like a cc at all. Maybe if we are super lucky it will trade above 150€ next christmas, more likely to be around 100€. I would only buy this set for 35-40%+
Val-E
Yes, I think it has been too widely available and at discount to be a safe bet. However, the first in a line is always an interesting one, especially with less than 2 years on the market. If I can get them for 50% off, I am in for a few.

nolanfan34
Bump. So is this set done? I was kicking myself for buying more than I would normally buy of a set when they could be had for $50-60, but if it stays sold out maybe that will work out OK. Since the newer sets in this style are so much smaller, this may end up as a weird "tweener" between a modular and the toy shop/grocery/deli ones. If the series gets collectors demand 31026 might get to 200 Euro XMAS 2017/8. I will be more than happy to sell mine for 120-140 next year/XMAS

At that price level a potential buyer just needs to add a little bit extra money to get a modular building.
Val-E
We said the same about 9493 when 10240 was in stock and no one listened! It will be interesting to follow how this mini theme evolves.
firos
Adding my contribution to the topic about this set: while i was 'exiting' my dark age this was the set that i most wanted. For several reasons: it was available at general retailers, where i could grab it and feel the size and weight; it isnt related to any special theme like Star Wars or DC or Scooby Doo - it is just a big city like set, with a lot small details that make a great job of showing what can be done with Lego. Of course all of this is valid for modulars but this set costed less than half than the less expensive modular (retail prices). It is a great set for someone coming back to Lego at a nice price but it seems logic that the ceiling price after EOL is checked by the non retired modulars.
Ciaraf76
Thread resurrection! I was sorting out a few bits and pieces of kids stuff I'd bought for Christmas and I found this set - I paid £20 for it.
