exciter1 Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I saw this over on Brickset.com. Craaaaazy! http://brick-sort.com/ Quote
DoNotInsertIntoMouth Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 That is but I think a decent thought for a service. If they start doing sets, I would use them quite a bit. I have a couple of large lots with 10-15 sets in them that I don't want to sort. Quote
exciter1 Posted April 9, 2014 Author Posted April 9, 2014 They just don't tell you the cleaning process. They might be bathing with your LEGO. 3 Quote
Doofy McGee Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 At $8 per pound and free return shipping, how are these people making money??? Quote
iahawks550 Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 At $8 per pound and free return shipping, how are these people making money??? ??????? 5 pounds per hour = $40 - $10 shipping = net of $30/hour. Yearly salary of $62,400 for sorting blocks. Quote
seapotato Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 That's pretty interesting. Does it say how long they've been in business? Quote
binici Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Sweet! As long as they don't sleep with my LEGO pieces I'm fine with that. Quote
fuzzy_bricks Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 At $8 per pound and free return shipping, how are these people making money??? Child labor. I could have my kids do this and pay them a with a roll of pennies everyday. Right now they would think that was a lot of money. 1 Quote

gregpj Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 That's pretty interesting. Does it say how long they've been in business? Nope.. the domain name has only been registered since February 15, 2014 though. 1 Quote
supergman Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Oh I'd love this service; I have so many bins and buckets of never-ending pieces from when I grew up til now. I must wonder, though, if a "unique" piece happens to be there if it would still be there upon getting everything back; big trust factor imo. 1 Quote
graffiti600rr Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 That's pretty optimistic! Have you ever effectively sorted five pounds in one hour? Lol. (My thousandth post! Yeehaw!) effectively is relative to how you want them sorted. My first sort was just by color and I did the first 30 pound lot pretty quick. Now, if you want fine sorting, you are making far less. iahawks550 Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 That's pretty optimistic! Have you ever effectively sorted five pounds in one hour? Lol. (My thousandth post! Yeehaw!) I suppose it depends on if they are brick size, or much smaller specialty pieces. But, I'm guessing if you built a sorting table where you could slide pieces into a reservoir, 5 pounds an hour would be on the slow end. Quote
graffiti600rr Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I really enjoy sorting the brick, so this would be a great thing to do. As far as getting all of you pieces back, that is something that you have to trust in the service provider to do. I would return them all since I have enough of my own, and would want to provide a great service for repeat business. I would probably do lets say a 5 pound minimum to cover the free return shipping because now they are sorted in whatever fashion you request and they may take up more space in the box. Quote
b-ran Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 It does say "From around $8 per pound." I guess there is play in the amount charged. I do wonder what would increase it. Quote

If you threw a dozen Minecraft sets together, I would charge way more to sort those small pieces. Quote
knarrff Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 You don't have to sort them all by hand. You can presort using a robot. Heck, you can even build that out of Lego (Mindstorms) if you like. Then you only need to correct the few mistakes this will make by hand, which is much less work than the whole process. Quote
@rtisan Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Interesting concept! You know what, if someone is bold enough to take a stab at something like this, I`d give them a pat on the back. Of course you`de want an idea like this to work effectively, but the fact that they are willing to even attempt this is fantastic. Kudos to these folks 1 Quote
Jojoyojimbi Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I wonder what it'd cost to send my 140 lb lot over to them.... wonder if i include the instructions for sets in the lot if they'd sort by set too? Quote
MartinP Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 That's pretty optimistic! Have you ever effectively sorted five pounds in one hour? Lol. (My thousandth post! Yeehaw!) You could be very efficient when you are sorting for the first hour, but the longer you sit, the harder it gets. I did that last summer, and I have to take frequent breaks so that I would not go crazy while sorting bricks. I wouldn't use this service. I would rather sort my bricks by myself to see what hidden treasures I have. Quote
isocleas Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I'm now consumed with the desire to build a robot that sorts legos. 1 Quote
MartinP Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I'm now consumed with the desire to build a robot that sorts legos. I tried that already. I partially worked, but the programming wasn't correct. Quote
