Stevenplays Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 With the new cantina coming up, the old one may not hold that valuation for long. I'm expecting the used complete sets to drop, but the MISB to stay about the same. Quote
Stevenplays Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Wait the LoZ collectors and Master Quest are rare? I need to make sure my brother doesn't mess up the disc lol Well I believe you could never buy them seperate from a bundle, and it also depends if you have a complete copy aswell. Opened and complete, I've seen them go for 80-100 but this was a few years ago so prices may have changed. Quote
46andTWO Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 My wife purchased a green grocer and cafe corner set back in 2009 for our nieces to build while they were visiting us. I remember asking how much she paid, when she told me a little over $300 with tax, i almost S___ myself. We'll we built them displayed them for a few months, then took them apart and put the boxes in a closet to sit for a few years. Out of curiosity one day i checked Ebay to see how much they were worth and promptly called my wife to ask why she hadn't purchased more back in 2009. I sold both sets for a little over $1500 used, with boxes. F'ing AWESOME! I only wish we hadn't broken the seals on those babies. Oh soooooo many sets that could have been had. This is what got me into lego investing and eventually finding this site on the interwebs. Quote
Darth_Raichu Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 You sound like a LEGO investor just getting into the game within this last year. How so ? Do you know of another bubble that is about to burst ? Quote
azalon Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I bought a few of the Nintendo Game ****** Watch games way back when I was a kid. I kept the boxes in as good shape as they were received. Every year or two I see the box of them(12-13 different ones) and check Ebay and am amazed at the prices some reach. Of course, the super rare ones aren't the ones I have, but I think I have a few good ones and most are in great condition. Quote
Huskers1236 Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I guess my only instance of something like this would be when I broke out my Lego collection from when I was a kid. I couldn't believe they were worth anything, let alone thousands of dollars. I would have held onto more of them had the discoloration not been so bad. I displayed a lot of sets in my window sills and I'm sure quickly led to the death of them. Quote
Doofy McGee Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I bought my house just before the housing bubble burst Sorry my friend. I know a lot of people that this happened too, and it wasn't pretty. I feel for you. Quote

@rtisan Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Found a couple of Indiana Jones sets sealed in some assorted plastic bins last summer. Couple hundred $ worth of stuff I didn`t remember buying (long before I started investing) so you can imagine I was happy. Not a gold mine, but 2 Motorcycles Chases and one of the Ark rooms sets. StealthSleeper Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Wait the LoZ collectors and Master Quest are rare? I need to make sure my brother doesn't mess up the disc lol Lol. Gamecube games are depressing. Even my favorite ones I could get maybe 5 bucks even though they're all in good condition (SSB Melee, SW The clone wars, LOTR, Mario Kart...). Ironic that N64 games are a fair bit more valuable. I have a few like Super Mario 64 (complete with mauled box+instructions...), Mario Kart, that are worth a good $30. Quote

I have a few like Super Mario 64 (complete with mauled box+instructions...), Mario Kart, that are worth a good $30. What does goldeneye 64 fetch these days? I was in high school when that came out. The multiplayer blew us away. I can't imagine how many hours my friends and I spent playing that game. When you play it now, it's laughable compared to the multiplayer games available today, but back then it was the cutting edge. I still have all of my old game systems and games, going back to the Atari 2600. Never thought to look into what they were worth, since technology tends to lose value over time, not gain it. Migration Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Speaking of games, I did very well when I sold my Vectrex stuff off, had a working system and 15 or so games with boxes and screens. Quote
chinchy Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I bought Mastercard stock when it IPO'ed, at around $41 bucks a share. I forgot about it for a couple years. When I checked it again, it was at $300 or $400 a share. I sold some to cover my cost basis. Then I forgot about it again, and then it was at $700 a share... Sold some more because I wasn't sure whether or not it would go higher. Then it did a 1-for-10 split. I'll sit on it as long as it doesn't dip down wildly since it's all profit at this point. I wish I had bought more.... 1 Quote
ron1264 Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I bought a Cafe Corner for $100, built and displayed it for years. One day I decided to sell it. Put it on ebay and got $560 used! Quote

buidee Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 There was CL ad for a brand new still sealed SSD and DS for $399 each, than several months later it was $350 each with apparently no takers. I emailed him asking him if I bought both, could he give me a discount. He called me back and told me, $500 ($250 each) for both was his final offer. He drove to my work and delivered them both. The DS was still in the original Lego box and the SSD was in the big yellow Lego Store bag with receipt for $399 plus tax. Quote

Spartikis Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I bought gold when it was $1900 oz and now its worth.... oh wait, that's backwards. yeah that didnt pan out for a lot of people, stupid bubbles. Quote
jjsrt8 Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I have forgotten about 4 Emerald Night in the bottom of my closet, bought at a clearance sale for 90$ (good price in Europe) each. Sets were too small to notice (okay, I admit, the entire russian army could fit into my closet...). I put them into a suitcase to save space anyway and forgot about them. sell me one haha Quote
Tom J Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 When I realised the current 6866 price was 3 x what I paid and I had 16 of them Not bad for a newbie Quote

Tom J Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 holy crap. i should've bought more of those... Hindsight is a wonderful thing. It was her indoors who predicted this would be a winner. She also said the same for the Mars rover, by the time I went to order more rovers they were sold out. I should listen to her more often. Quote
dbroncos59 Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Only had one moment and that was with the Green Ninja Princess, I had set 3346 ....Unfortunately, when I was in 5th grade, my dad got mad at me and threw my entire collection of minifigures in the garbage...I still pull up the ebay listings and make him look at what some of the ones I had go for haha. "See this dad? $50 a freaking figure!!!" Between that and the The Systems Pharaoh set, that is why I returned to buying Legos with the majority of my expendable income. Quote
jaisonline Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 not overly expensive items but interesting. it's not like i found a van gogh or gold coins hidden. back in college during my frat days, i purchased a light-up Spuds MacKenzie dog for $2 at a yard sale. made in 1986. someone added a "porn star" cap and a caddy emblem. everyone loved it during the parties. i still have it to this day and it works. no idea where the cap is but everything else is there. other than being dirty, it's in excellent condition. regularly sells for over $100. other than spuds, i have an unopened 1985 dirge transformer. paid $15 back in 1989 at berlin (nj) flea market. up until 6 years ago, i had no idea it sells for over $200 ungraded. related to lego, i was quite surprised in 2011 to find out my childhood King's Castle 6080 set was selling for over $100 used w/o the box. i kept all the boxes with my sets all these years. 1 Quote
