drunknmunkys Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Local craigslist ad... 75020 75021 7965 79008 60004 NIB for $270. I picked these up today without getting shot. Boxes are in perfect condition. I was talking to the guy and he said he could get me 20-30 more. I told him I would email him what I was looking for. Now, considering that none of these sets are retired yet and most haven't gone on clearance, is there any legitimate way this guy could be selling them to me for this price? I would like to buy more but I don't want to get involved in buying $1000s of dollars of possible stolen goods, especially with emails and texts linking me to the seller. Should I avoid any future transactions with this guy or try to figure out what else he has? Quote
Bold-Arrow Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Didn't someone else post the same deal today ? And yes, stay away Quote

drunknmunkys Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 Ah well, too bad. I thought everything could have been ok until he said "whatever you want I can get it. you want 30 more of these?"... Quote
Stevenplays Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Either stolen or bought with a stolen credit card. I wouldn't try returning the goods to get your money back, the goods would probably be taken back, you'ld have no money, oh and yeah, you'ld probably be stabbed. Quote

Ya, by the time he said that I had already given him the cash and I had the legos in my car. He wanted me to stay longer and tell him exactly what I wanted but I said 'sorry, I have to get back to work.' Quote
dbost01 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 An image in my mind pops up of old Mafia movie in which thieves steal truckloads of mink coats except now I am replacing the mink coats with legos. Quote
lobo1969 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I picked these up today without getting shot. Haha! I had to chuckle there. Quote

Anakinisvader Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Not that I would do it but I'm curious as to how he's getting a hold of this merchandise. Maybe the mob is now laundering LEGO to keep the IRS off its back. They are shaking down toy stores for "protection" money. Quote
Jimking23 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I knew it would be to late for the the "it fell off the back of the truck" line Quote
Jojoyojimbi Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 come on, $270 is about the exact price if you added up the target clearance prices for all of these, maybe he works at target, gets a discount, and resells for what people would have paid at the store Quote
Jimking23 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I got a good deal on a Lego set on CL once. The guy asked me same thing, asked me to make up a list of what I wanted. Like you, I told him I heard my mom calling Quote
Ciglione Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I knew it would be to late for the the "it fell off the back of the truck" line The boxes were in perfect condition as he said. So no falling of no truck! Quote

MartinP Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 come on, $270 is about the exact price if you added up the target clearance prices for all of these, maybe he works at target, gets a discount, and resells for what people would have paid at the store Depending on where you live. Where I am, the clearance deals at Target never go beyond 30% off, and most of the larger sets are not on clearance. But, it could be a plausible idea. Don't know how much a employee discount is, but it could work. Quote
Bold-Arrow Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 It doesn't work if he is "taking down" orders Quote
Soadfan4ever Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 come on, $270 is about the exact price if you added up the target clearance prices for all of these, maybe he works at target, gets a discount, and resells for what people would have paid at the store That is a very good point. All of those have been discounted at target in the last 3 months. If he were to stash some or not mark them so that they made 50 or 70% clearance, then used his 10% employee discount with a redcard that would be very doable. The thing about getting whichever sets he wanted is a red flag though. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker Quote
mcortez Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Or maybe he's an employee at Target or (Walmart or KMart) that is authorized to do mark-downs (or knows a friendly manager that can) and simply marks things down as 50% off due to "damage" and purchases himself. Quote
