supergman
I have had great packaging w TRU but the more expensive the set, the worse shape they are upon arrival. The top is the original and the bottom is the replacement. ..not sure which is worse. I cannot even fathom why someone would even waste the time to ship it in the first place. biniou
It's a shame. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbZ9uCQW1Hk edit: I mean "TRU may be ashamed"

Jimking23
I made my first Kmart online ordered. Ordered set. Shorty thereafter 11:55 email arrived, order processing. Little more than a hour later (1:00) email arrived, order shipped with tracking number. Package arrived today approx 48 hours later. Impressed until I saw package, a bag. The set wasn't destroyed but it could have been in better condition. Would be singing their praises if they used a box. The boxes may slow them down. I could live with that
Tom J
Every set I've ordered from TRU UK has been damaged. I only keep ordering as it was the only place I could get them at 50%off. I'm taking a few back at a time to the B&M store to get replacements (if the set is still in stock after the sale) It seems they are bubble wrapping them and shipping them in plastic bags, they are either getting crushed in transit or they are selling their customer returns which are damaged already. Same here which is why I no longer use them, Argos are even worse! Argos are infamous for unchecked customer returns that are placed back on the sheves without checking. I bought a BluRay player 2 months ago with a porno DVD still inside! Not only did the player have no remote (probably why it was returned or previous buyer stole it), it was badly scratched. I contacted trading standards and my local solicitor as this is totally unacceptable and illegal. Argos settled out of court (I did very well out of it) but, I've not been there since and never intend to again regardless of what offers they have. The UK retailers with best packaging and service from my experience are: John Lewis (not one single issue in over 50 orders) Amazon Boots (if large order) Tesco (normally in a bag but carefully delivered to pick-up point) Asda (make sure you order in multiples of factory-box quantities) Argos don't even bubble-wrap. It's all thrown in the thinnest mailing bag they can find. I once bought 30 Capt Am Cycles where I had to return all 30 to my local branch as not one box was undamaged and all had either returns or catalog number labels that could not be removed. In the end, I was offered a 50% discount by the manager as they were now discontinued so I sold the lot unboxed. Remember, box condition is CRITICAL to get a fair price unlike what others on here say.
n30666
Here TRU sends here from Germany. Only placed one order with them so far, was ok just cardboard box with minor packaging inside. But was undamaged, I actually returned one product because found it 20 euro cheaper next day. Their return policy is good, they pick it up at the door. Remember, box condition is CRITICAL to get a fair price unlike what others on here say. Yeah box condition is important if people have the choice between good box and damaged box they will always go for the good box. You have to lower the price quite a bit to convince people to pick the damaged box.
CNH1974
I don't order in large quantities so maybe I have been lucky. But so far Lego LEGO Shop at Home never an issue. Amazon mainly good - I did receive a 7938 with popped seals but they replaced I no questions asked. If I were to use Tesco, ASDA, Argos etc... I would use Click and Collect. I have ordered some small/med sets like 9471, 9472 etc... on ebay. They came with the boxes slight bent by posting, but as long as the seals are intact, I do not have much of an issue. I don't think it would affect EOL value by a significant amount when the set is scarce. But Lego boxes from the 1980s are much stronger. From Medium sets upwards, like 6362 you have a inner tray that double the strength of the box. Why can't that do something like this now? But those trays are nice old sets from when I was a kid have those trays also.

But those trays are nice old sets from when I was a kid have those trays also. And they used to have flip top lids to show you the contents. And show alternative models on the back. And they used to be a challenge to build, the instructions were not dumbed down like today's. And...... I'm ranting To get back on topic, you most probably right and producers are under pressure these days to reduce packaging for environmental reasons. Lego have not quite got the idea, they have made the boxes thinner and more flimsy but they could have saved packaging by making the boxes smaller! 9474 Helms Deep, the contents take only a third of the interior volume. 7398 Passenger Train, about a half. Make the boxes smaller, but with thicker cardboard. Please..

Have you fellow Brits noticed that some sets are now thicker than 8cm when boxed so that they now go as a medium instead of small packet? Or even 1.5cm too long like the Fire Plane and Batcave, etc. I wish lego would just sell sets in a thick bag rather than a box!

Haha, can you imagine the complaints from buyers if the boxes came in a big bag. <Whiny voice> "My Legos is all like broken. The seller did not like protect at all." Or its their revenge for you cornering the UK Fire Plane market. I watched an auction at random to see how much it went for - and it turned out to be one of yours !
