BrickLegacy Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 There were countless debates on here as to how The LEGO Movie would impact the re-seller market. I think we are starting to witness the initial impact with the influx of new users on the daily deals threads. I can't help but notice all the newbie questions and everyone pouncing on every deal that comes in. Meanwhile, the savvy veterans sit back and apply their strategy methodically. I'm not a veteran but I'm definitely noticing a trend on the forums lately. Is this the beginning of a new era of LEGO investing or just a short-term spike in activity because of this crazy week? stephen_rockefeller Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 It's been happening for quite some time now not just now that the movie is out. Quote
exciter1 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I also noticed some stuff is selling. At least for me personally, some stuff is selling that had been sitting there for months without a bite all the way through the holiday season. Quote
stephen_rockefeller Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 The movie is definitely spiking interest in LEGO sets but I'm not sure it's getting people into lego investing. This is just a guess though. Quote
stephen_rockefeller Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I may have misinterpreted the OP. Are you saying the movie has spiked an interest in LEGO sales or LEGO investing? If you are referring to LEGO sales then I agree with you 100% Quote
Blackjack Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 It sounded like BrickLegacy was refering to all of the newbies jumping on every deal that pops, up and filling a daily deals thread with 26 pages! Quote
BrickLegacy Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 It sounded like BrickLegacy was refering to all of the newbies jumping on every deal that pops, up and filling a daily deals thread with 26 pages! Yes, that was my observation. Quote
Darth_Raichu Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Those newbies will share your sentiments in 6 months time (if they stick around that long) :) Quote
Blackjack Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 This has been said before, but I really hope that the LEGO movies 1 and 2 and Lego interest in general can swell the consumer base enough to support all of the sets that people are hoarding from all these deals, 'positive' they're going to make a huge profit. StarCityBrickCompany Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Since the day the movie came out, hits on my listings have consistently been up over 20%. Quote
Sandwraith Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Since the day the movie came out, hits on my listings have consistently been up over 20%. For sure, been selling stuff much quicker and some obscure figs i had listed are finally selling! Finally getting some storage space freed up Quote
Spartikis Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 It's been happening for quite some time now not just now that the movie is out. I havent noticed investment sales or profits change as the movie just came out like a month ago, too short of a time to see how the movie will affect the investment market. But i first started to notice a growth in lego investors last summer during the summer sales, seemed like the site activity level jumped massively and has stayed pretty strong since then. Also, as pointed out by OP lots of newbie topics like "how do i get started" or "how to invest with $100 or less" all people wanting to jump on the band wagon. More investors means more competition and lower profits in the after market, if you want to stay alive in the coming years you will need to be aggressive and do your research. But it is quite possible that the lego movie will draw more adults into investing, only time will tell i guess. Quote
BrickLegacy Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 Interesting quote today from one of the Amazon SD posts: "I really need to stop buying Lego stuff. This movie has caused me to spend a lot of money in the past couple of weeks. I can't even afford to pay my rent now. Thanks OP!"
