After what happened to 10188, I fully expect there to be 2017 modular coming out called "Pet Store".

Darn. I was hoping for the Grey Grocer or the City Hall.

I am thankfully not that worried about the DS fiasco since I am only holding one. The PS and T1 camper however are my worst nightmare.

I noticed that "Discontinued by manufacturer" on a couple of my Amazon listings today....  UN Headquarters, Fallingwater, Camper Van, R2-D2 (all of which are retired sets)

Tower Bridge had that statement too.  It could be just some wordsmithing by a reseller without a clue though.

I ignore anything stated my an Amazon reseller as for starters, the price is likely to be above RRP. If I buy from Amazon, is from them directly. BTW... I've just seen code 31S6 on a TB in John Lewis so it's still being churned out ;-(

Whatever anybody else says, I think the Pet Shop is a superb set and I'm topping up my stock when I see them discounted, I've got 47 now! Since this set doesn't get as much attention as the other modulars, a lot will get caught with their pants down once it suddenly EOLs like the TH.

Do not mix-up asking prices with real sold prices. When a set (especially exclusives) is rumoured to be retired people jack up the prices. But that does not mean it sells for that price. I think with PS it takes a long time before it makes some real money. I am sitting at 7 of these and regret buying them. It has just taken too long for the dang thing to retire. Last year would have been too late already.

Same here. Not buying any more modulars until the next one retires and shows a decent uptick.

I haven't bought any since I loaded up on PC and PS.  Which means one of PR, DO, or BB are the next to go.

Probably none of us have any idea which modular is going EOL next. The LEGO employees among us (I know one who moved from Merlin to LEGO last month) daren't say if they want to keep their jobs. I've pressed for information but, it's not very forthcoming and the average LEGO employee knows less than we do.

I saw some yesterday as well.

Seal code 37R5

When I asked if they were ever gong to retire l was told these were sent to them from Disney (land?discovery? maybe their LEGO brand ruining department?).

The end MUST be near...for the pet shop!

Right??

Do you guys think that the fact it's been on the market for more than 5 years will hurt it's EOL prices? I mean the Green grocer was on the market for 2 years.

oh yeah, dead on arrival

Anything that's been hoarded is pretty much toast imo. It's basic economics. I could get into it, but it's just the laws of supply and demand. As price rises, so does supply. As price drops, demand rises. The market finds an equilibrium price where the 2 dots meet on y & x axes.

Buy cheap and flip quick. If you pay retail you should be able to break even in a few years.

I love me some modulars, and own them all except two, but I don't see much upside in this series for long term investment purposes.

Even my Fire Brigades, Grand Emporiums and Town Halls seem to have plateaued in value for at least a year now.

There might be some opportunity to quick flip, capitalize on OOS situations, or feed the mass panic buying at EOL, but I'm not sure any of the currently available sets will even reach 2x RRP in the long run, unless people start getting twitchy and dump their stashes for minimal gain or losses.

I was at LEGOLAND California today, and checked the seal codes of the PSs on the shelf there.  44R5.  That's almost a year ago.

So you're thinking:

1. maybe it's not as hoarded as we assume?

or

2. maybe the consumer market has already reached saturation, and literally no one (outside brickpickers) is buying this thing anymore?
