I think the versatility of the PS being two separate buildingsmakes it a much more attractive buy for those looking for massive house rows, whereas the PC is a corner building with limited versatility (though I do like the style of it quite a bit).

Based on this, I say PC goes first.

I agree with you on PS being attractive because its two separate buildings...

I bet all 5 buildings that are out right now are extremely profitable, and every one ranks in the top 15 of providing the best returns for the lego group.  I bet the Pet Shop is easily in the top 10 year after year for the company.  It's probably smarter for them to retire something like the simpsons theme, or oust other exclusives, and to keep the modular line running strong with many options for the buyers.  I know that since I started building these, i've got it in my plans to acquire all the available ones sooner rather than later.  And, i'm sure i'm not the only one that goes into a lego store, buys one, goes home builds it and realizes how awesome they are and then want to go get the others.

Keeping a 5 to 6 year rotation going is probably smart on their behalf.  One Pet Shop more than likely makes them more profitable returns than many of the smaller sets.

If everyone keeps buying more, it won't go away.

This is so true. I'm assuming many will continue to stock up on Pet Shop with the assumption that it's next in line to go. However Palace Cinema has been in production for three years which is easily a considerable enough timeframe to be considered for retirement. It's also a corner building and following the release of the BB it wouldn't be unfeasable to see Lego want to retire a corner. Plus if you factor in Pet Shop outselling the Palace Cinema it's not easy predicting which will be the next modular to retire

But when Saturn is in alignment with Neptune and Mercury is in retrograde, Lord Xenu will rise up and smite every third and seventh Palace Cinema in your storage. Win Pet Shop. You can of course avoid this by scrawling 27 on each of your PC boxes, but most hordlings won't because doing that will affect resale value.

Rookie mistake. Obviously, that should be Raxacoricofallapatorius instead of Mercury.

This is really great info. Thank you for taking the time to do the research!

I would hope that the post-FB and GE behavior would help dissuade you from buying more PS!

One more quick question...what condition did your boxes arrive? ;)

Let me ask this question - why do you keep buying more?  Why not set a goal at the outset, and once you've hit that goal, start investing in something else?  Or, why is PS so appetizing to you that you've decided to keep buying more instead of investing those funds elsewhere?

I hate to stir the pot, but I wanted to share...

I have recently decided to make my own Green Grocer 10185. I had a spare PS, so I started by picking out the shared pieces between the two sets. The two have 573 common parts, plus I'm going the Sand Blue Grocer route for now because Sand Green is too rich for my blood. That adds another 207 usable substitute pieces to the mix. (I am also going to use the lamp post, and 1x2x3 windows to sub for the train style). My next project will be 10182 Cafe Corner. The scraps of the PS include 370 pieces that can be used towards 10182. With all that, I am getting 1150 pieces out of one PS to rebrick the modulars of days past. Average cost 13c per piece.

Any thoughts?

I am still searching for the question I think.

it sound promising as a quick jump start to piecing together the GG (SBG in your case). Would be interested in how much the rest of the pieces would run you. It's always the junkies that figure out the best way to get their our fix

Allow me to clarify. Do you think that potential of using PS to rebrick 10185 and 10182 will add to the demand for this set?

Wow, that's pretty resourceful :)

I also don't like to stir the pot, but why is 'never' not an option in the poll?

Anyway as regards your question I'm not quite sure what you mean: what we think of splitting up a Pet Store to build the oldies? From an investor point of view I have no clue; for personal joy and adventure: sure it looks like a good idea if you like to have a large number of parts already at your service (saves time, energy and costs). I wouldn't exactly use the word 'rebrick' though, as you're apparently going to not make a Green Grocer but a Blue Grocer.

Be sure to keep the box in good shape, you'll probably be able to sell it for a few bucks.

That would mean people would have to know about that potential. I don't think that will easily become the case unless something goes 'viral' within the Lego community. While it's a clever idea, as already mentioned by @Lordoflego, it's not a revolutionarily more easy way to get the classics, so personally I do not think it will have a noticeable impact on the demand for Pet Shop. It doesn't need extra demand by the way :)

I think the demand for the PS is helped by its split structure, allows rows of houses. I don't think many people will have the time, money, or effort to do what you are proposing, though it would be fun to see how your blue grocer turns out.

No. It doesn't. At least I have identified an alternate use for the millions(?) of hoarded sets out there

That's great! For the Green Grocer did you use any other sets to fill in the remaining pieces or just got them separately? I have the modular bug now and do want to build out some of the old ones I don't have.

Based on this, I say PC goes first.

I agree and so I have invested in bith. And I don't really care which one goes first. Justbe sure to stay in front of he herd on these...

Sounds like a good project. Maybe document it, your experience might make a good blog post.

I have reached my mark on both. I don't have issues with "set it and forget it" mentality. I know, especially with the increased market saturation these days, that I am going to be sitting on them forever anyways. I may as well buy in during promotions and maximize, and minimize stress, where possible.
