75059 - UCS: Sandcrawler

If they don't say every set is awesome how do you expect them to get freebies from Lego when they launch massive campaigns like the Scooby-doo giant mystery box.

The only reviews I watch on youtube is Jang's and he actually goes out an buy them from TRU for review.

I like Jang, too. Seems fairly objective in a world of freebie hungry shills. Maybe he can be overly positive but at least he calls out most of the problems he finds.

I think his "overly positive" is just not being a jerk. The internet is full of jerks. I always encourage my kids to watch Jang because I know it's family friendly, even when being critical.

It's nice how he evaluates the Assault on Hoth backslash and comments that some stuff is constructive, but also many people are too easy to get too negative about things on the internet :)

And how he filters out spam and bad language from the comments that most people don't do.

Ed's not an undercover Lego agent.  For one thing, he advocates buying to resell, and Lego corporate policy declares that to be a capital offense.  For another, he is concerned about counterfeiting, which Lego thinks is A-OK.  I also think he's just not that sort of guy.

On a related note, I do have my doubts about some of the big review sites.  Those guys remind me of stock "analysts", whose rating scale ranges from "Accumulate" to "Strong Buy!"

To be honest, we do make money from affiliates, so there are times we push a few sets.  It pays for the site.  Otherwise, people would have to pay to keep the site operational..  We try to be fair on recommendations.  I will not pitch the new 75159 or Assault on Hoth or any other crap set.  I have standards.

Hey Ed, I was undercover at your Cherry Hill Lego store for this year's May the 4th VIP event and heard you talking.....

& I remember you saying, now that you seen the AOH in person, you were considering putting out an apology for all the bashing the set took before it released.

I hear that ED's support of the secondary market was so that winter toy shop and 10188 would be remade. He also destroys it by encouraging play sets in truth ED is Jørgen Vig Knudstorp the Lego CEO at least that's what the paranoid voice in my head told me. :)

It looked nice in the acrylic LEGO store display container with the snowy background and I believe that was what I was referring to.  Any LEGO set looks nice in a diorama...that's why I have 100 store displays...LOL.  If you have read my posts on the set, I have softened on it, but it is still a UCS terd.  As with any UCS set (maybe besides the 75159), I will buy multiples.  Is it the worst set...no, definitely not.  I just don't think it meets UCS quality.

Wow, I randomly walked into a TRU yesterday and found one. Where I found it was a bit funny (video game section). I was like, "Screw another Slave I, I need this baby". Walked out with it at a cool $248! :)

I'm baffled that this set is so hot and hard to find now... I need another for reselling power in the future!

I picked up another one yesterday at the Barton Creek Mall while on the road in Austin.   They had two (of which I bought one), but she said they were getting more in today supposedly.

This makes my third.   I always buy at least two everything that interests me (one to build, one to stash).   I just hadn't gotten around to building this one yet.   If it does retire, I'll probably pick up a gently used set to build while keeping these minty sealed just to see how they progress in the marketplace (if at all).

There's 'hot' among resellers, and 'hot' among end users.  I get the sense that 75059 is neither at the moment, but tipping toward the former.  If few resellers buy it, it could do well based on scarcity alone.  On the other hand, if enough resellers think that way...  For now, I think the best course in Lego reselling is watchful waiting with the checkbook closed.  Watching the 'progress' of 2015 retirees, Sea Cow excepted, does not inspire confidence in the future.

Seacow inspires confidence? Clearly you did not attend "the course" :)

Seriously?  I hadn't followed it since the price spike to $500 late last year, since I don't own any.  Well then.  I no longer feel bad for not buying any.  Thank you.  That is one impressive reseller-driven bubble...

Well, after all the activity since its retirement last October, looks like the Sea Cow has settled recently to around $375.00.  That would yield an annualized return of about ~56% over the past 300 days or so.  This set inspires me...

Which realistically is about $290 or about 5% gains over retail + tax.

I hate math!

the seacow has nothing going for it to keep demand steady.  no additions to the theme. no soon to be released movie. resellers were the cause of the inital spike.

quality star wars sets (like this one) has all of the above and more even if this specific desert beater isn't in an upcoming SW film.  just take a look at 10227 b-wing which isn't even in the same league as this set.
