75059 - UCS: Sandcrawler

It took me a long time to get just one - It is an impressive build but I kept going back and forth about whether or not it was an attractive build.  It was the last UCS I picked up for my stash after Ewok and Slave 1.

I eventually got it when I went to get the Space Slug set, so my net purchase for that day was around $150.  Still have it sealed.  If I can find a used one or open box one for around $200-$225 I'd probably bite on that and keep the minty one tucked away for a while until it at least doubles.  Otherwise I'll probably open the minty one some day.

I reread your post and then edited mine. You sold TH, EEE and HH already, wow. I think maybe I'm just too greedy.

Understand that HH has actually gone down over the past year.  Ditto for R2 and some other great performers from 2014.  No particular reason to hold a retired set with an annual return below zero.  In five years maybe they'll be higher.  Or maybe everyone will be playing Minecraft wearing VR goggles and Lego will be worth precisely its value in BTU's.

Hmmm called my local Lego store. They were told, they will NOT be getting anymore in the store and DO NOT have any currently in stock.  Guess it all depends on who you talk to, where the sun is on the horizon, the temperature outside, and wind speed. Just glad I got my 2 yesterday discounted, and don't have to worry about missing this one.

you both could be right.  online and instore are 2 separate things.

last fulfillment of Haunted House orders was online shop at home only and i didn't see an instore Haunted House after May 2014.

i won't be surprised with sporadic online availability at shop at home and short lived Amazon/target/walmart sightings where we are F5'ing to get the order in the basket.  those giddy moments still lie ahead.  that will be especially exciting if early post EOL SC experiences an unexpected BUMP (and no i don't mean they ran over a jawa).

i will be surprised and disappointed if LEGO stores get restocked and also if walmart and target show repeated restockings.

moan and gripe about how crappy this set is or how lego makes us as all suckers and stupid, hang up your clearance sneakers or place your chips and continue on down the plastic toy brick investing rabbit hole and pray for the hyperinflation that must surely be

I called in last night when it showed shipping in September.  I was going to try and use my smooth talk to get a london bus since I had some VIP points to burn.  She wouldn't budge but she did say "it's showing as sold out on my end anyways".  After I hung up, I checked the computer, and you could still add it to your cart.  Not sure if that means anything or not.

All it means is CS' system is not in sync with the LEGO Shop at Home or there is a significant delay in CS' system being updated. Whoever is running LEGO Shop at Home must be pretty high up to call the shots to add more inventory where CS agents don't even know about yet. I also wonder the inventory being routed to LEGO Shop at Home are orders that were meant to go to the big box stores or Lego Land. Instead, they are re-routed to LEGO Shop at Home for direct fulfillment.

The US store? How did you add it into your cart?

Not surprised at all. I feel bad for the guys sinking 3k into this set who will need to clear out this year. I'm beginning to believe Ed Mack is paid by Lego to promote sales through this site, just my own crazy conspiracy theory, and I really respect the guy and what this site has done. Its a good time for collector's of Lego to display, but probably no longer a viable safe long term investment that is predictable.

I love this forum.  Very schizophrenic group of herd followers, one way or the other.  Due diligence, manage risk, make your choices and move on.  A few grand isn't the end of the world, stock always dances around.  Invest wisely, no one knows what Lego is doing but Lego, all else is speculation.

Yep...You figured it out. I am a LEGO shill.

If a person needs to "clear anything out" then let me suggest moving onto another type of investment or speculation as some would call it. This site was developed around the idea of long term holding of sets and if you are a few months off either way, what does it matter?

If a person is investing cash they need to support themselves in LEGO sets and "expect" a certain return in a certain time period to meet their needs, well I'm sorry to tell you that many will be disappointed.

I would say there's a better than 50/50 chance this set disappears from retailer shelves before the end of the year, but as I keep telling people, LEGO adapts. I have been saying this for well over a year. Invest at your own risk. Don't spend money on sets that you can't afford lose or need to live on.

One last thing...it's great that members share what they heard from LEGO employees, but who is right and who is wrong? There have been conflicting reports about this set (...and every set discussed on this site) from various LEGO reps. One says it's a goner....another it's coming back...another has no clue. My money is on the person with no clue.
