Did anyone of you buy SCs during the may the fourth promo? I m still thinking about getting two...

Yes I bought one. When I receive it then i'll have two which is nice. Put in two separate orders to max your freebies. Happy shopping.

Yeah, and I'll likely build it. Something tells me that this could have decent growth potential, but then again, I think it's an intriguing model for building.

Well looks like this is the only set that made it to TOOS (will ship in 30 days) during the may 4th sale in the UK.  Not bad if you ask me - i thought LEGO Shop at Home would have been whiped of S1, EV and SC to name but a few.  Seems like SC is the only one they didn't have enough in stock of.

Was consistently in the top 4 of the top sellers in the UK side on the "top 25 sets".  Never managed to leap S1 or EV though FWIW.

"The completed set" I mean.

The set has a mass of 6 pounds 0.0 ounces and the minifigures are between 2-2.2 ounces (I have them on a small lego stand, so I can't give you an exact mass without removing the stand and I don't want to do that)

I am a first-time lego investor and going to go hard on this set, willing to sit on it for a year then start selling them off slowly.
I can get 8% off gift vouchers for the store and they are $398AUD (not on sale i know).
But the fact its been highly speculated to retire soon, and Ive seen them sell on ebay atleast 3 in the past 2 months for $500AUD excl. shipping, most likely a decent investment yea?

I would not go balls deep on this set. Already alot of sellers, with plenty more to come, and you will be waiting well over 1 year for a decent return. I don't think it is a bad choice to stock a few but I would not bet the farm on it. If you can wait out your competition then you will get the lions share of the profits (4+ years). There is also no guarantee whatsoever it retires this year so that is also something to consider.

Hm...Maybe 6 units then??

I just noticed the store will have the ghostbusters firehouse as well for $475AUD. Not discounted but i've already got the $10k value of gift cards so this needs to happen.

Might just diversify and just grab all the larger sets. I don't know why but im set on only investing in the larger sets when i know i can make the same return on the smaller sets as well. Just seems like more work in the long-run....

Sounds like a plan but just be aware it is a long term hold to see the good profits. There will be a large amount of sellers getting big numbers of those sets for far less than your buy in so you will have to wait them out.

This is true. All good things come to those that wait.
Looks like they have Lego Treehouse 31010 on clearance on there website still so hopefully i can grab all those.
Is there a app where i can scan the barcode of the set and see if it is retired or not?
This would help, right now im just referencing there entire catalogue to this site and brickset....

I think the trick here is that this is an Australian member and he likely won't be competing with any of North America nor Europe for customers. Especially with a set this heavy I would imagine his Market is going to be pretty much confined to his neck of the woods,,,, would that be true? If so, i have no idea how to tell you whether this will be widely hoarded in your area or not. I would suspect not,,, but then the fear is that your customer base is also limited. I'm very interested to see how this works out for you but I have no advice to give considering we are Worlds Apart.

Maybe some other Australian members can chime in on whether they are ever able to get customers from outside 'Middle Zealand'. That might give you an idea if your customer base will even have the option of buying from people who bought this at discount or not.

Maybe for small sets that don't weigh much but I just can't imagine someone buying from Australia a set this large.

That is the issue he is downunder and not buying on sale when most resellers will be.

Right, but most resellers won't be able to sell to his customers so they should be irrelevant, (I'm guessing) due to the cost to ship to Australia. Whatever discount they get can't possibly override shipping a 14 pound box across the globe. Or can it? Totally assuming here. Hopefully someone down under can chime in on how much cross continent action you blokes get.

I get LOTS of overseas sales from the US to Europe, but i NEVER get Aussies. If that's the case for most US based resellers (and maybe Europe), then he only needs to buy-in better than the resellers in his universe.

Fellow Aussie here, I can vouch for the fact that there is little external competition. I've mainly been a buyer, not so much a seller, but since about 2013/14 maybe I haven't bought a single thing from the US (bar convention exclusives or polybags). When our dollar was buying above 1USD, I got some bargains, when Amazon and TRU still shipped to Australia and the AUD was above the USD. Market fluctuations could change that, though it's unlikely we'll see such a swing in the dollar again (we're back under 75 cents to the dollar now). The set's RRP is $450 here (including tax), and is on sale for $398 (again tax included), plus there are 8% discount gift cards available for purchase, which bring it nicely down to about $366. Not too bad IMO at ~19% off. I don't know how that sounds for the US, but that's pretty decent here. That's the killer thing about a relatively small market with high demand- rarely are there substantial discounts, to the point where the max blanket sales discount on Lego is typically around 20%.

I used to buy a lot of used USC sets from the US a few years ago. Even when our dollar wasn't at parity , it was a lot cheaper than buying here. Not sure what changed but all of a sudden the postage(shipping) charges skyrocketed and made US buys way less appealing.  Canada still seams to be good value for buying. Shipping from there is always way less but takes longer.

Ive sold two UCS sets to the US recently through bricklink. The exchange rate gives both of us a good deal even with some decent shipping charges.
