Maybe the only reason they retired DS was the deal with Disney and the new cycle of movies.

That brings up other sets like TB and T1 which don't seem to need to retire ever... unless VW gets bought by Disney and they launch a new Camper LoL

ah yeah...

did I mention PS ?...

Ha! Laughs.

I know this goes in the "things I heard from a lego customer service rep" thread etc. However, I have been told by the reps from Lego customer service that the sandcrawler will continue through until the Winter at the end of 2016. I could be flamed for this... I can imagine the amount of information people have been told by lego employees that just turn out to be utter crap. However, I am under the impression that this one will be with us for a bit longer than anticipated.

EDIT: Having googled 'Winter months' like a noob, I think that winter (December, January, February) could mean that it is in the process of being phased out now)....

Thanks guys!

So took advantage of double vip promo and bought a Sandcrawler. Arrived and box was creased and bashed. They were very good and offered to do an exchange but I made point that their couriers here in Uk are not great and this is a reason why Lego is changing their main courier. They then offered to give me 600 additional VIP points on top of the 500 that they've already given so we're now looking at a 22% discount. Thoughts on whether to take it or leave it considering that this will hit resell value when this retires. If I was building it, it would be a no brainier but it just doesn't interest me. Waiting ultimately for the new UCS snow speeder

I received an EV set from lego with a hole in it so they offered an exchange but I complained about the inconvenience of having to post it back. So they gave me some VIP points for the inconvenience. The strange thing is that AFAIK the returned set was never delivered back to lego as the courier (parcelforce) could not find the lego postal address (somwhere in germany) even though lego gave me a prepaid return label. Lego did ship me another EV set even though they did not received the damaged set!

Bought 7 sets in Germany recently. 2 EV, 2 GBHQ, 1 TB, 1 PC and 1 SC. Managed to sell 5 of those sets for a profit, which left me with essentially a free SC and EV, so I decided to break out the SC to build it up. What an awesome build it turned out to be! Truly befitting of an UCS set, unlike the upcoming Hoth set...

I have 2 other SCs kept in storage MISB. I think I shall get a few more of these down the road

How the hell did you make 550 Euro profit on the mentioned sets? And what is TB and PC? Tumbler & Palace Cinema?

Probably because Lego is much cheaper in Germany than it is in the UK, the Euro is pretty strong at the moment against the pound. If purchased at a good deal it would be very easier to make profit when selling back in the UK. And TB stands for Tower Bridge.

Haha i'm from Singapore. So i managed to get 12% tax refund at the airport, about 222€. Coupled with 185€ worth of double vip points.

The sets i chose are also not available for sale in Singapore anymore, so their prices can be sold above retail price right now. Only GBHQ is available, but it's in scarce supply right now with a waitlist of 100. Even that can be sold above RRP.

Towerbridge made me the most money. I bought it for 194€ after tax back, sold it for 305€ within 5 mins of posting it up on sale

So, in Singapore, are sets like EV, TB, PC and SC temporarily unavailable in local stores, or are they already (officially?) flagged as EOL there? Any other sets that are already unavailable there which are still normally available in Europe and in the USA?

All the stores tell me that these are EOL already, that's why they aren't coming into Singapore permanently anymore. Which is why prices have already risen.

Modular sets like PS, PC, PR, the UCS Helicarrier as well.

But all of these are still readily available in the US and Europe, so I have no idea why all these sets aren't coming into Singapore anymore.

That's why I'm very happy when I'm in Europe and have to buy as many sets as I can. All you people with Lego stores servicing your countries are so lucky.

Gentlemen, I think we have found a new market to flood.

It's lucrative if you somehow can manage to solve the expensive shipping problem. Many have tried and failed, haha.

Malaysia's appetite for Lego is even more insatiable. They start lining outside the lego stores as early as 5am in the morning just to get their hands on silly little seasonal sets. It's ridiculous. So much demand but so little supply

I'm not one to overly speculate and I know we've heard the same talk a hundred times, however I popped in my local store tonight to pic up my invite for Saturday's event and whilst having a nose around there was only one SC box on the shelf, which was empty, it was a battered old display box. All the other exclusives were stocked to the gills. My other initial thought was where are they going to house the AoH set, without losing a set there certainly wasn't an obvious place for it to go. As I said, I try not to speculate but sets have to retire at some point, that's half the reason we're in this game, and with another UCS set ready to hit the shelves, maybe it's the perfect time ...

They did the same thing with Death Star at my local store. For a long time they just had the empty box on the shelf and when you asked for it, they'd bring a clean one out of the back. It was like that for a long time.

Yeah I wished I'd asked if they had any out back, I'll double check again on Saturday. As I say, I know it's all speculation, and keeps things interesting, but the limited amount of space for Hoth will be an interesting one, and sets do have to retire eventually!! :o)

Not wanting to add fuel to this speculation fire but Smyths no longer stock this and TRU don't do it online at the moment (& the store availability is few and far between as far as i can tell) in the UK.
That said I've always seen it well stocked in my b&m lego store and its consistently been available at S@H (even through double VIP where i assumed it was likely to go TOOS but never did)... so looks like I've just put that fire out.

Great set though.  Honestly think that this is holding 10144 back as IMO its a superior model (queue backlash here).  Once this one retires I expect both to do quite well.
Some people may not like the look of the thing but IMO its a great display model (and not too big). Does even evoke some curiosity from non SW fans as they want to know "what the hell is that?"

Agreed, when I finished building this set, I put it on my shelf and said to my wife "what do you think?" She turned to me and said "it looks like a brown box". I showed her the door.

TRU did have that situation earlier in the year and it came back in stock so difficult to tell if that means anything. Not gone oos at LEGO Shop at Home since xmas.

It is a great set.  Huge thing, complex build.  Lots of play features and figures from A New Hope. Winner in my eyes.
