If that is the case, then better to pass as NL RRP is higher from the start. How are they going to compete with other European sellers?

Cheapest I saw it was when Ciglione said to buy. 272.15€.

250 euros for me VS 310 RRP ad can still get more but I am out of the Exclusives market.

You don't. You sell it on the dutch market only.

Yes, darling but then there are going to be multiple competitors from neighbouring markets who can offer it for less. Or do Dutch people only buy from other Dutch?

Don't darling me.

Perhaps Spanish LEGO buyers are more social. I know people here prefer buying from other local people even if it means they have to pay a bit more. You with buyin of 22€ less will have less margin to sell in Belgium with shipment included. So i'm not worried about selling my SC vs yours.

Exactly. Europe is not as united as some people think. Thank god.

Especially with expensive stuff (Dutch) people would rather drive in person to someone's house and pick it up in person than to risk a parcel-service with possible damage and high transportation costs. A company provided lease-car with 'free' fuel card is still quite common in The Netherlands, so many will calculate that driving to a seller and picking up in person is cheaper than getting it sent through a parcel-service.

This cross-border transportation cost within the EU is making a significant difference where one buys his sets. I've looked at buying certain sets on eBay and invariably ended up buying from German sellers because French, Italian and British sellers are simply out-pricing them on shipping costs to The Netherlands!

How I wish! I haven't seen it discounted anywhere. Actually, according to Brickwatch.net the only place where one can buy it in The Netherlands right now is the official Lego LEGO Shop at Home. For €330... :coldb:

Cheapest ever it was sold (according to Brickwatch) was for €280, which is a 15% discount. But that was before I came out of my dark ages.

Offers for this UCS Sandcrawler on eBay have also gone well above Lego MSRP and I see quite a LOT of parting-out offers as well. It's like the UCS Sandcrawler is already retired!

Oh, and I find this also telling:

565c01e9ba80b_UCSSandcrawlerwantthisset.png.0246d5200f26aad08cf6c9097359ad94.png

(own vs want on Brickset)

The number of people who WANT this set is significantly higher than the number of people who OWN this set. That is a really good indication of the growth potential of this set!

Only prob I see with using Brickset owned vs wanted is we have no idea how many owners have multiple sets. E.g. I use this feature in Brickset but never enter the "how many owned" #s.

Brickset is of course primarily oriented towards Lego Collectors and not to Lego Investors. While investors here on Brickpicker may proudly show photos of their inventory shelves with rows of MISB boxes, the average collector just wants a set to own, to build, to display, maybe even to play with. ;)

Within the larger worldwide Lego community the investors who speculate on EOL price increase are only a minority.

Understood and agree.  My post was about this specific Brickset feature being used as an investment tool and not their user base.

If you want discounts on exclusives, you need to buy them earlier and run the risk they never retire. Sandcrawler had discounts between 1yr and 2yr release.

B&M shops have access to a maximum quantity which dries up before these reach retirement. This is the case on this (slow selling & huge) set. Afterwards, Lego hold the monopoly. (sometimes they do reruns and refills like Pet Shop, T1 and DS. But not always - and in general that's very bad for retirement date and price action afterwards)

Question & opinion:

I've been debating whether I buy 4 AROCS at 149E/pc. This is a good buyin' price in my region, but in the end, I've not picked up my order (yet?) because I'm unsure about the future of these kind of huge exclusive technic sets. Everybody is all over them these days. Since the Crawler, the most profitable game is over.

What do you think? I've got a couple of days left before they are sent back automatically...

Thanks for your help.

That is indeed the direction where it is going. One has to buy exclusives early on. But with the risk to be storing them for a long time. Like what is happening now with PS, T1, TB and others. I am happy I got my fill of Sandcrawlers. So I do not have to worry about it anymore. If it retires suddenly.

About your Technic question:

Sure there is still money to be made if yo buy it cheap. But I have noticed that more Technic sets are bought for investment than there is demand from the end-user. Technic is quite a niche market with mostly AFOL builders. These AFOL's mostly already bought their Technic Flagship upon release. Or when they could buy it at a nice discount. So hopes are set on new-born AFOLS with a taste for Technic. For me that will be a long wait. Too long. I'd rather invest in something else.

Just my 0.02

No way buy Arocs now - it will be out for another 2 full years and that price is nothing special. Sit it out and see how the 42009 performs before going in deep on this.

Regarding SC, I´d hold off too. No point taking something at 10% off 3 years before it retires, your CAGR is worse than buying on EOL and these big sets don´t just vanish in one day with no signs - or do they?

Hey,

thanks for your feedback. I agree. It's tricky to go too long technic.

Just to rectify: 149e is buyin compared to Msrp of 200e. That's 25pct off. These sets trade lots at 175e every month. So there's already a trade on.

I try to buy stuff cheaper than the current secondary trade prices on the more sophisticated platforms. This set at that price qualifies.

But as i'm not interested in flipping for 25e, i'll heed your advice and pass.

Good luck to the others who do pick it up.

Thanks!

The SC is a great set! I'v got one here on display at work and enjoy playing around with it, its very versatile. I love how you can box it up so it's all closed and can be driven around or open the marketplace and start selling droids to the local farmers from Tatooine. I also have one for the personal collection and will build it up when I get tired of the Slave I and MKII.

This one won't be around for too long. It's a fantastic set with 3000+ pieces and somehow it doesn't get the attention it deserves. However things will change once it disappears! It's almost the same piece count as 10221, but £100 less...so it's quite a bargain.

Well, that's it, I pulled the trigger and ordered one, I still had 25 euro in VIP points and with the C3PO en GBH promo I figured I wouldn't get a better deal.

My wife will be sooooo happy when she sees the credit card statements this month....

Ordered one SC as well last Monday when it was still in the Cyber Monday 5% discount + GBH promo. My order has been stuck in the Warehouse since Tuesday, and it's not moving till now. Wondering what's the hold-up. Come on, TLG, ship it to me already! :tommy:

Let's just agree that you guys both build your Sandcrawlers and I'll keep mine MISB. That way, it works out best for everyone. :derisive:

The ISD 75055 is the first one to get build. This will be my first "new Lego set unboxing" in 25 years....I'll put a cold beer in the fridge to celebrate :derisive:

At least we are all happy with the SC...

My first "new Lego set unboxing" in more than 30 years was the 10242 Mini Cooper, which I thoroughly enjoyed building.

My first new Star Wars Lego set unboxing and building was the 75094 Imperial Shuttle Tydirium which I really enjoyed building and am still displaying till now. :)

Expecting my ordered Sandcrawler to arrive with DHL tonight, but will stash it with my other Lego for investment.

I think this set gets a clear boost from the low price of oil.  For the first time in years, Jawas can afford to take their 'crawlers on road trips.  For AFOL's, maybe there's a mod out there somewhere for putting a leafblower's gasoline engine in a 75059, plugging in a Roomba circuitboard, and sending it out to mow the lawn...

TooS at SaH Germany.

No need really to say "Germany" specifically since there is only one European stock. If it's TooS at LEGO Shop at Home Germany, it's also TooS at LEGO Shop at Home France, UK, Belgium, Spain, Netherlands, Denmark, Italy... :P  So next time, just say: TooS (or Call to Check, or Sold Out, or Retired) at LEGO LEGO Shop at Home Europe. :)
