Obviously this shop does not rely on Lego sales to make a living or they would be in trouble.

One certainly does get that impression...

But I think there's a good reason why only so few retailers are selling modulars, there just doesn't seem to be a broad enough market for them. Not sure what kind of store that is, but offering modulars is probably not in their best interest. Binding capital, shelf and storage space for years for some mediocre margin.

I think that we have been through the issues of the TH before, its high sticker price put off a lot of buyers initially who now regret it and the box takes up a lot of shelf space.

Also, the people who buy these tend to be rich big city dwellers who just dont have the time or interest to go on wild goose chases to find this stuff. If this shop had put these on their web shop I am sure they would have sold out ages ago but a lot of shops just don

Great condition matter when somebody buying set as a gift....?

I guess it does. The most picky ones are definitely collectors that put the sets on a display and keep them "in mint condition". Those who just buy them to build it often don't care that much, as long as the box doesn't look like as if the content is likely damaged as well

.

But for a present, while one might not need absolute perfection, it shouldn't look too shady either.

Just received the 3 THs I ordered from Spain (obliged valenciaeric's command to help purging his market). Seller advertised them as totally fresh/undamaged boxes, but the parcel that came had a hole that looked like someone tried to score a  80 yd field goal with it. The hell are those delivery companies doing? Do they use dump trucks?

Fortunately, the seller did a decent job at packing it, but needless to say, all 3 boxes are damaged. Damages aren't that severe, should still find a buyer eventually. But still, seems like such a waste.

I feel sick.  I bought 6 of these when they were $315 on Amazon and one of the sets came opened.  Instructions were there and sealed, box was in great shape, didn't bother to check to see if all the bags were there.  I went through the return process and simply returned it.  A week or two later the set is at $375-$400 USED!!!!  *siiiigh*  I don't know why the heck I didn't just keep it and build it.  That's -1 for the noob! :(

Trying to read the market on this one, it seems that new prices are starting to cool off (possibly, resellers who missed  have realised it is now too late to buy and still turn a good profit on a long hold) but used ones are still climbing as real collectors want to get in on it. I guess there will only be further price expansion on the new ones when the used market prices come within 20% or so of the cheapest new ones.

SSD is following a similar pattern.

I definitely wouldn't lose any sleep over it. You'd probably only net about $30 from eBay after fees/shipping etc. Better long term hold. Instead think about where else you can focus those funds. Perhaps on another modular or ToO.

You sound like quite the half empty glass kind of guy ;)

The only noob thing I see here is that you bother about mistakes that weren't obvious back when you made them.

You got 5 THs that gained like 30% in a single month, doesn't sound too bad to me. But if you really need to feel bad, you should rather bother about not having mass bought them for MSRP just a few months ago.
