Sauromosis
Also, HK, you might be surprised at what happens in the next year or two if you stick with this hobby. I couldn't have imagined having all 9 modulars but here I am with them.
hkstrongside
What if you tried flipping another hard to get set such as R2-D2 in a trade for Town Hall? Also you could ask for a used one if you are just going to build it. Thats a great idea, I don't mind at all if it is used. Would be cheaper too. Great idea. The cheaper the better. My wife is going to straight up murder me with all the money have spent in the last couple months on LEGO. We have always been fans but nothing like what the last two months have brought. It all started when we looked up my father-in-laws Green Grocer on eBay one night while my kids were up there building it. My jaw dropped... then the credit card came out and I started buying way too much! ha ha...

tractorboy
This might be grounds for a good trolling but I have seen some people here do pretty nice things before in my very short time as a LEGO collector and am hopeful there is another act of kindness left somewhere. I am an avid coin collector and have never seen the comradery and general awesomeness towards other collectors in the coin collecting arena that I have experienced with the LEGO crowd. Pretty cool. Anway.... I have been trying very hard every day to find a Town Hall for retail price and it looks like we got into this a couple months too late. Is there anyone out there with a horde of them that would be willing to sell me one at retail? This is for my personal build with my two sons, it is not for a flip or hold. I was able to find someone local that sold me a Grand Emporium for a little more than retail but still less than it would have been retail plus tax. We were very grateful. So far our little city has the Plaza Cinema, Grand Emporium, Pet Shop, Fire Brigade (sold to me at a little over $200!), Parisian Restaurant and the Haunted House. There is not a snowballs chance at this point that we will have the Green Grocer or Corner Market on our street ($$) so that leaves just the Town Hall. AND the totally awesome Detectives Office when it comes out. So far we have built the Cinema and Haunted House. We are going to have a marathon build over the Christmas break on the others. I would be very grateful if someone can hook me up, but I also realize people are here to talk about making money, not dole out charity, so no hard feelings if everyone gives me the middle finger. However, it never hurts to ask. Bear in mind that if you buy one now, even at the increased price it's currently at, you'll most likely be able to sell it on used in a few years and at least get your money back. Cross
Modulars are only going one direction, up. Especially as more AFOL's discover how appealing the modular line is. Jaison is right- people are addicted to these things. I have twelve TH and can't think of a set in my collection I am more interested in holding for the very, very, very long term and treating with a "back burner" mentality. With every new outstanding mod introduced (ex: PR), the appeal of previous mod's is greatly strengthened. Who doesn't want a "complete" collection? IMO, we are still in the infancy phase of what the Modular line will draw to for AFOL's for years to come. Scarcity = $. Huge upside potential on the TH. It's doubtful TLG will ever produce another mod at this price point/piece-count based on the lack-luster sales this one produced (in spite of its outstanding aesthetic appeal). The investor/collector ratio greatly favors investors. All the ingredients needed for a long-term hold. Flip your bat caves. Hold the TH.

Totally off topic and has absolutely nothing to do with TH , LEGO or anything but you are one hell of a poster. Very intellectual and if I had to guess you have some background in writing. Your posts are very educated and I really do enjoy them. Others also must have the same feeling as you have a staggering close to 60% like per post rate (LPPR in case you were wondering, and yes that is completely made up but fitting with all the crazy abbreviations we have on this site). Most higher percentage posters (and generally likable people on this site) are in the 25-33% range. Anyways thanks for the great additions you bring to the site!

For the sake of discussion what's the best guess appreciation look like for TH over the next 1 yr, 2 yr and 3 yr periods? Promise I won't hold you to it .. We talking $500 in 12 months, $1.2k in 24, ? in 36 .
Cross
Off topic, too... but very kind words, and thanks a ton. I am on month four of serious Lego investing after being a very long term fan of Lego, all the way back to my Space Train which was sold at a Garage Sale in Tallahassee, FL fifteen + years ago (decision #4/2,182 of my "Top Regrettable Personal Decisions" list). I have learned an incredible amount from the site, and am proud to begin contributing more. What more could we ask for... an opportunity to connect/engage with a great group of people, and make money in the meantime?

lego rules
There is hope though. I ordered some GE's several weeks ago which are sitting in limbo; however I received the ones I ordered last week.

bricketycricket
My TH from walmart Canada arrived today. A 25R4 packed in an enormous box filled with about 1000 airbags -- you could probably fit at least 4 TH's in this thing and still have space for padding. The corners are a little banged up but the box is in OK shape otherwise.

hkstrongside
Bit the big one today and ponied up for this. Was able to land it for only $250 and an Elf Workshop from a really great collector. I was afraid the cost of this set would just keep climbing and I didn't want to miss out on this one for our personal collection. Now all we need is the Green Grocer and Cafe Corner. $$$$ Someday.

hkstrongside
Am doubting whether to pick up one more of these or another GE instead (35 euros less) having now seen both kits, town hall is one of my favorites. If I had to choose it would be town hall for sure.
bricketycricket
GE is a cool set but investment wise it's no competition for the TH.
banshee3
I got my ship notice last night. I'm super excited to have gotten my hands on this. For all we know though, TH could have another year of life.
