Damn I came down here to slum in the GE thread and stirred the pot ;)

Edit LEGODOG you owe me a poly bag and no damn rapunzel this time ;)

Yes, I owe you. Thanks. Just hope they actually ship. Unlike my Walmart TBs.

Is this the first time GE showed 'Sold Out' at SAH? Should I regret leaving the GEs in my local Lego stores last week?

I've seen 7 in the past 6 days at 2 LEGO stores.  Regrettably I had to leave all of them behind because there is no room to bring them home unless I leave a kid behind.  No child left behind vs. no LEGO set left behind?

Haven't seen 'sold out' before...a few 'ship in x days' changes for sure, especially around 2x vip event this spring.

I think someone said that orc forge did get to sold out, and came back, but still retiring same year. Architecture Studio also was at sold out, but that's a very unique case. I don't think any modular was at "sold out", and came back, but I am new here, and the times are different, so it's all just a speculation

well, i am certainly  hopeful that this is it for GE. But if it is, then this is it for SSD as well. But why would TLG be so generous? making things poof way before christmas? i don't know, man...

Thats why I don't buy it. I think its gonna come back for a while and be gone later in the year. Maybe they want to pull all attention to it by making it sold out everywhere - then bam bring it back and profit like crazy while people panic. lol.

Yeah, from my point of view, the vast majority of LEGO sales are in the 4th quarter and a large set like the SSD is most likely bought/given as a gift so why would they intentionally plan on EOL'ing a large money-making set in the summer. Makes no sense for LEGO to leave money on the table like that.

I believe LEGO makes plans in the beginning of the year for it to EOL at the end of the year/after Christmas so they produce a quantity of how many they think will last the entire year. Then all of a sudden, they sell out that entire amount in Q2 because of the panic buyers. Well, now since it's Q2, they still have enough time to set up a new production run to make more in time for Q4 sales.

Now, if there wasn't the panic buying and it would then naturally sell out in late Q3, early Q4, LEGO would probably not have enough time to set up a new production run to make Q4 sales so they are just gonna let it go EOL early before the end of the year since there would be no point to make more if sales just plummet after Christmas. So, with all the panic buying and selling out now, it's actually letting LEGO make more in time for Q4.

That's why I'm thinking it will come back to the US, too soon to sell out and still enough time to make more for Q4 sales. If I'm wrong, oh well, still got a couple.

I would expect them to use "Temporary OOS" status , like they did for SSD during May. It would not hurt TLG, and would stick it to resellers (some buyers would be willing to wait)

I'm thinking "Temporary OOS" means "soon" as in we know definitely know it's gonna come back within 30-60 days etc. For something that sells out unexpectedly and they have to set up a new "last" production run, there aren't gonna be definite dates right away so they don't say "temporary" and keep people on edge. Better for customer service.

We saw this last year with Architecture Studio, Catwoman and Orc Forge. Sold out, no "temporary" while they made another batch and the new stock just showed up when it was back.

Just my $0.02.
