I missed the boat and I'm bummed. Got to start getting the Pet Shop now. I guess when you first start investing in something you always miss out on something. I'm bummed!

You better pick up a Haunted Houses or your gonna be really bummed. I'm a late investor also been collecting since I was young though so I know sets and the market, but didn't start investing till late April. I've missed the boat on many sets investing and collecting, but we all have to start somewhere. I only have one fire brigade I wanted two for myself and lots to hold for sale but starting so late lucky I got one for $225. If the GE is retired and your a collector not just an investor you should buy one ad soon as possible even more than retail better get it now before it's 300+

It seems there are still many GE in the Lego store in Chicago. I picked up one today.

Yea because an investor like me doesn't enjoy driving there not even worth the frustration time and gas. I have plenty wish I had more, but if there is another short run I'll get at least 3 more.

I am wondering what you guys and girls think is the minimum amount of this set one should have in his stack. I have 5 now. Doubting if I should buy more.

There cannot possibly be one single answer to that. Except "it depends".

Sure is a pain to find parking around the Magnificent Mile. Often times I find myself spending more time driving around downtown looking for parking that's close by than in the actual store. Only worth it if I really need something.

Ok... than just ones personal opinion. When will you feel comfortable? I am comfortable but also not comfortable with my 5.

I pick select ones and try to get between 5 and 10, but with the goal to never sell any at the same price.

If one person will pay $300, the one who waited should not be rewarded. They can pay $325.

the fact that you are asking means you think you need more and are just looking for some little devils to sit on your shoulder and cheer you on to get some.

5 is not enough.  i think less than 10 ge is not enough ge.

and if you are at all inclined to build lego, you will not be able to resist opening so don't forget to add on an extra.

also this is assuming that you can get them which in north america is becoming challenging.

modulars have a history of performing well.

if you are going to play the game ge is a winning position.

It depends how you look at it. It can either be devils or angels on my shoulder who cheer to buy more GE's. Or they have made some kind of pact together?

If I were in the US I would buy some extra if I would still find some. In europe it seems they will last a little longer. But the urgency to buy more is creeping up on me. I just want to keep my average purchase price on the same level as it is now. This makes it even more challenging.

I have two weeks of leave from work now. So I will definately go on a seek and purchase path the coming days.

Is the Haunted House from the Monster Fighters series? I see the Haunted House is still on Legos website. I should get that before the Pet Shop?

Yes and no. It belongs to the monster fighters theme but it outlived all of them. I believe you should get both the Pet Shop and the Haunted House. The last one is amazing!

Ciglione - as to your question:

The exact amount of GE is hard to guess. I would expect you should buy +/- the same amount you were willing to invest in the fire brigade

+/-

your expected return differential

+ %

the profit you had on the fire brigade

Personally, I got less GE, as I have other priorities too and the budget should remain diversified

At LEAST > 5% of my total stock should be GE

regards, J

Sorry about that, it started from a few pages ago when someone listed sets to own and invest. :)

I was in San Diego last week, no emporium anywhere, also flew up to Seattle, none up there either. None in Maryland. I have a feeling the next batch will come from target at that listed price of $229, add state tax and we'll be paying $250 or so. That's how much it goes for on eBay so target has it figured out. Just look at the SSD, $100 above retail at target on Thursday and it sold out fast.

So $250 is now the base for online purchases. This seems to fly higher and faster than the FB. Is it possible the GE goes higher than the FB in Xmas? I think so. FB was heavily hoarded, but the GE wasn't. I was looking through some FB threads here and the hype around that is much greater than the GE.

$250? Isn't that $100 above RRP? Or are you talking CDN? It may be difficult to make a decent profit from that inflated price.

There was a lot of hype about the FB about this time last year, mostly people saying it had been over bought and the market would be flooded. This could be the reason why it has stalled.... for now.

I would say, get the GE why you can, but don't pay over inflated prices as that will kill your returns.

Speaking from personal experience, I heard a rumor on this site in April of last year that FB was not mentioned in the Lego.com description of the Palace Cinema, whereas all the other modular sets were.  Some people said "OMG!  This means FB is finally about to retire!" so I started buying them.  Actual retirement waited until mid-December (I think), so I ended up with a bunch, most purchased on some kind of sale.  I think many others were in a similar position.  GE, on the other hand, if it is retired, did so pretty much out of the blue.  I mean, a mid-year retirement without the simultaneous launch of another modular set to replace it?  I think most folks were surprised.  I, for one, expected GE to last through the end of the year.  So GE more or less followed the same retirement track as SSD, in that each set just disappeared in the middle of the year (a bit earlier for SSD), and with no fanfare.  I think it's likely, for that reason, that many fewer of these sets were "hoarded" versus FB or DS (for example), not to mention a set like MMV, IS, or DA, in which Lego was nice enough to actually tag the set "retiring soon" in advance.

My short temper prevents me from enjoyment of many things in large cities or crowded places do I simply don't go. Im saving the rest of this month's investment money for Disney trip in two weeks. I shouldn't have bought the GE I found at discovery but couldn't resist.

Yes Haunted House is part of the series, but fits very well next to any modular as its a large victorian home that can be modified further to your liking. Many people see it as a modular as do I because of size and price. Only thing different really is opens from side isntead of levels coming off which can also be modified if you are a good builder.

The HH came out some time after the MF series thats why it is still available, but becoming increasingly hard to find in local lego stores I live in chicagoland area and no stores have it now and not being restocked. Mite be done by Halloween or christmas I have 5 now buying more each month expecting to be a nice return in coming years to beautiful not to be. Buy now or regret later trying to scrounge for leftovers many people say wait, wait for what them to buy them all up and you have no reserve no thanks mind games. Also yes pet shop and town hall are next to go sometime after GE unless Lego plays evil games.

Agreed, GE is less followed. Even when I was selling on eBay, I had PMs on if I have the pet shop or palace cinema. I asked if they had the GE, they said no and then suddenly remembered they needed this corner lot. Then they asked me for it and I said, oops, I don't have that in stock. It was only three months ago that I started buying GE on target at $149 then it went OOS before I could even hoard ten. With the FB, I had a long runway and hoarded 23. Then I sold about 15 all at $280 shipped. If the GE came back, count me in for 5 more. Friends are asking me for the GE paying $220 and I said no. I'm not cash strapped and still have around $5000 to dump on SSD and GE in the next month.
