seapotato
Just wondering if there is a market for older sets. Many are just basic colored bricks and nothing special. It seems like the licensed themes are the most popular? Sent from my iPod touch using Brickpicker
jaisonline
i think there will always be some form of demand for early space, kings castle, yellow castle, and initial pirate ship sets. some of the other sets with cool base plates also have demand. most of the demand will be fans of those sets (building, nostalgia) and prob not for investing. lobo1969
If the original boxes and instructions are intact then I'd say you could make surprisingly good profits from older sets. You might have to sniff out these sets from garage sales, craigslist etc. but it can be done. Just finding the box in great condition is half the battle, even if you started with an empty box and instructions, piecing together most old sets shouldn't be too difficult (though I don't currently do this). If you can find any sealed sets from this era that cost you little more than retail, then it is a must buy IMO. There is always someone out there willing to pay big money for older sealed sets. c4dreams
It's all about how much you pay for them. You can do pretty good getting large lots and selling the sets off individually. If you're looking for growth, however, I don't think they're likely to go up in value much.
Ed Mack
Tough market. As stated above, it's all about a particular person and what they are willing to pay for basically "sentimental" reasons. Most older LEGO sets are in poor condition. If you are lucky to have instructions and all the pieces, you can sell for a decent amount. On the very rare occasion that you find an old MISB Space or Castle set, you can ask for top dollar, but the market is sketchy at best. I have seen some old Space sets like the Galaxy Explorer that sellers ask over $1000 for, but they are MISB. There are so few in this condition, that it is hard to really approximate value. I am usually quite surprised about how little these older sets sell for.
