donliu Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 What are your thoughts on this? Is it worth to picking up or stay away if the price is right? Quote
marcandre Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I don't see it ever doing much. Too small and common minifigs. Quote
siddji Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I have seen on them on target sale for $12. At that price I picked a couple. Some Walmarts have them for $15. Nothing great IMO about this set except lois lane. Quote
hepcatpunk Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I have no thoughts on this one other than pass. Quote
theplasticmanor Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I bought about 15 of these at a Kmart for $9.00 each. I figured at that price there wasn't much risk. I agree the set doesn't have a very high ceiling. Quote
TheOrcKing Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Aside from Lois Lane and a few decent parts, there isn't much there at retail. I only bought this when it went on sale. Quote
donliu Posted January 22, 2014 Author Posted January 22, 2014 guess ill pass on this unless i get some extreme discounts =) Quote
Veegs Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I wasn't really wowed by the Superman sets in this wave and this is no exception. I'd probably bite at $9 each if I came across them at that price. Quote
zskid00 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I have 2 of the Metropolis Showdown set that I got for about $8 each just to have the Superman and Zod minifigures. I really could care less for the other MOS sets though and I don't see them doing much post retirement. Quote
exciter1 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I probably wouldn't have purchased a single one of these sets for investment purposes. I only have a few because I was able to score them at 50% off or more. Quote
Grolim Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Yeah at 50% off I'd probably grab a few. It's hasn't been out a year yet so still plenty of time to pick them up for investment unless you get those good deals. It's a good sign that the current market price is the same as retail despite the discounting. Still, like most have said the set is a little uninspiring. Quote
glenbart Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 There are going to be plenty of people who will want to collect every superheroes set, if you want to calculate the investment growth your best bet is to look at other superheroes sets, though they only started in 2012 so there is not much to go on. I would say the closet comparison is 6867 also a $20 set, with hawkeye, iron-man and loki, This set also has figures found in other sets, hawkeye was available in 6868 and a polybag, loki in 6868, 6869, iron-man, this triangle version only in this set and a polybag. 76009 has an exclusive lois lane figure, but the other two are found in each set of the man of steel series, yet Zod doesn't have armour in the smallest set. sets like these will possibly not see rapid growth in a short but you won't lose if you buy low. Quote
Doofy McGee Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 In the grand scheme of things, people are always going to want Superman stuff. Even though the Supes from 6862 is way better, I think the MOS version will satisfy the collectors who get into Legos after all this MOS stuff is retired. Plus, people like villains. This set has the decked out version of Zod, which I think will be the desired version of him. Exclusive Lois Lane only helps too. This set will never go super high (no pun intended,) but I don't see why it couldn't reach $30. If you get it at $15, that doesn't sound so bad. This is not the kind of set I would load up on and buy 40 copies of, but I think it would be safe to have a handful of these at $15 apiece or less. Quote
Darth_Raichu Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I am staying away from anything MOS. It is always interesting to see how things pan out in a year or two when you have no money invested in a line Quote
nolanfan34 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Some good thoughts here and I agree. While I do see people say that "people will always want Superman stuff" I am surprised at how prevalent the toys from this move are in every clearance section in most retailers. People are just not buying them, figures, whatever. Growth may take a little while on this one. Quote
nolanfan34 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I am staying away from anything MOS. It is always interesting to see how things pan out in a year or two when you have no money invested in a line This is one of my investment weaknesses, I feel like I need a little something of everything so I don't potentially miss out. But you can't buy it all... 1 Quote
jaisonline Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Let's hope these sets get quietly discontinued. Then demand will rise for them. Until then, I'm staying away from "Man of Tin-foil" sets with the except of the 2-3 sets I have of each. They are just boring. My son has no desire to play with them except for the Supes minifig, Quote
glenbart Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I think the 3 villains are the main pull, the dropship is not bad, but the other models are nothing special, i'm keeping an open mind, don't forget the marvel sets were criticised and went on to do really well. At least there is some connection with the original superman film Quote
Doofy McGee Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 If everybody hates these sets and is staying away from them... we may have some potential sleepers here people. Quote
Doofy McGee Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Although, I must say... the set pieces are indeed pretty lame. The minis are the only thing that will ever provide any value. Nolanfan34 did bring up a good point about MOS stuff being all over clearance aisles, but I don't think that necessarily translates well to how the Legos will do. The MOS stuff that is on clearance is all really crap stuff that causes no one to really wonder why it wasn't bought. I think toy manufacturers were expecting bigger things from this movie, so they cranked out every little thing they could to go along with it. No matter how good (or bad, depending who you ask) a movie is, people still pass on the crappy toys. I am still holding out hope that all my MOS minifigures will appreciate in value, and I will be glad I bought them. Quote
runner.caller2 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I got four of these at target for $5.99 back in July. There are a couple more there now at full retail....weird. Anyway, I'm holding onto them for now. Mostly because I haven't had time to list them. Couldn't pass on 70% off. I am kicking myself for not picking up two 60003 Fire Emergency for $12 each. Quote
binici Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I picked up a few just in case. Not sure if I should flip them now... Quote
kunfuzd Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 not impressive Agreed. I built this one with my 5-year old. He insisted on getting one. We built it but were underwhelmed. Play time for the youngster: 10 minutes... Quote
