Plus the Maersk Train. We are in the same boat....the late one. :P

That's ok though. With a good starter fund, lots of research and a little luck, we'll both make up for this.

I AM CAAAAAPTAIN PLANET!!!

Sorry, got carried away a little at the end there....

Ditto. I think there's merit in investing in retired sets with proven value curves, though. I got an is for 300 and a da for 205 and i think both still have room to grow. Course, that's what i told my wife but i'll probably just build them instead. Take that, holy matrimony!!

This has been creeping closer to $400, so seems possible that someone got carried away with bidding. And I get the feelings of some in the thread around missing out - I have felt the same since finding this site. But, when I feel like I missed out on Diagon Alley, I just remember I'm in early on Helm's Deep. :-)

They're already 450.00 on Amazon.

I am going to assume that you are looking at third party sellers and not Amazon.com. Amazon third party sellers consistently prices things higher than they are actually going on eBay. Just because they are more professional of a store than eBay, they can list it for as long as they want at a high price. Look at

All of these third party sellers are selling for more than what you can actually get it for on eBay. Even the cheapest is $500 more than the price in BrickPicker data.

The more I look at this auction the more I think its not legit.

I have been watching this person for the past month and he/she has been selling an IS a week using that same photo everytime. I think it is legit as the past couple they have sold, have sold in the $330-350 range. My opinion on the one that sold for $450+ yesterday is that it was most likely a result of two separate bidders not reading the description thoroughly, therefore thinking they were bidding on an auction to purchase two Imperial Shuttles, rather than just one.

I know that USC sets have a tendency to explode in the secondary market, but 10212 looks pretty bland to me compared to all the other cooler USC sets. I didn't get one before it EOLed but is it still worth it to pick it up for $320 right now?

In my opinion yes! While it's not the coolest UCS set, it's still a great set and will be selling for over $400 by the end of the year probably.

Do you think buying these used is a good idea?

Yes. If i want to build a set, i got no problem buying a used one. I imagine the same goes for most buyers. You'll get lower returns, but on a lower investment. Plus, it'll be easier to sell. Used popular sets ALWAYS sell.
