Diabolos80 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 You guys are forgetting an important fact: It takes two bidders to get the price that high. Now I don't feel so foolish for paying 300 for mine. Quote

Diabolos80 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 If i put in a bid of 450, but the next highest bid is only 375, then i win the item for 380. For the winning bid to be 450, someone else had to bid 445. Quote
stephen_rockefeller Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 The more I look at this auction the more I think its not legit. Quote
dakotahorn Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Man.... I didn't get into LEGO investing until RIGHT after this retired and HP Retired. UGH. If only.... Quote
comicblast Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Man.... I didn't get into LEGO investing until RIGHT after this retired and HP Retired. UGH. If only....Plus the Maersk Train. We are in the same boat....the late one. :P Quote
dakotahorn Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Plus the Maersk Train. We are in the same boat....the late one. That's ok though. With a good starter fund, lots of research and a little luck, we'll both make up for this. I AM CAAAAAPTAIN PLANET!!! Sorry, got carried away a little at the end there.... Quote
Diabolos80 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Plus the Maersk Train. We are in the same boat....the late one. Ditto. I think there's merit in investing in retired sets with proven value curves, though. I got an is for 300 and a da for 205 and i think both still have room to grow. Course, that's what i told my wife but i'll probably just build them instead. Take that, holy matrimony!! Quote
StarCityBrickCompany Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Man.... I didn't get into LEGO investing until RIGHT after this retired and HP Retired. UGH. If only.... No need to worry - The good news is that you will be here for the next retired sets. Quote
steelmelt Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 This was my first investment set. Glad I got a winner the first try. Quote
nolanfan34 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 This has been creeping closer to $400, so seems possible that someone got carried away with bidding. And I get the feelings of some in the thread around missing out - I have felt the same since finding this site. But, when I feel like I missed out on Diagon Alley, I just remember I'm in early on Helm's Deep. :-) Quote
comicblast Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 They're already 450.00 on Amazon.I am going to assume that you are looking at third party sellers and not Amazon.com. Amazon third party sellers consistently prices things higher than they are actually going on eBay. Just because they are more professional of a store than eBay, they can list it for as long as they want at a high price. Look at http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Star-Wars-Collectors-Millennium/dp/B002QAX75C/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1366214674&sr=1-1&keywords=lego http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Collectors-Millennium-Falcon-10179/dp/B00A79Z4PU/ref=sr_1_2?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1366214674&sr=1-2&keywords=lego http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Ultimate-Collectors-Millennium-Falcon/dp/B000WLW3W0/ref=sr_1_3?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1366214674&sr=1-3&keywords=lego http://www.amazon.com/Lego-Ultimate-Collectors-Millennium-Falcon/dp/B0017V21EY/ref=sr_1_4?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1366214674&sr=1-4&keywords=lego All of these third party sellers are selling for more than what you can actually get it for on eBay. Even the cheapest is $500 more than the price in BrickPicker data. Quote
Rich B Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 The more I look at this auction the more I think its not legit. I have been watching this person for the past month and he/she has been selling an IS a week using that same photo everytime. I think it is legit as the past couple they have sold, have sold in the $330-350 range. My opinion on the one that sold for $450+ yesterday is that it was most likely a result of two separate bidders not reading the description thoroughly, therefore thinking they were bidding on an auction to purchase two Imperial Shuttles, rather than just one. tyclin Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I think I can hear some arguments between them now.... Quote
brandon90820 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I know that USC sets have a tendency to explode in the secondary market, but 10212 looks pretty bland to me compared to all the other cooler USC sets. I didn't get one before it EOLed but is it still worth it to pick it up for $320 right now? Quote
Rich B Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I know that UCS sets have a tendency to explode in the secondary market, but 10212 looks pretty bland to me compared to all the other cooler USC sets. I didn't get one before it EOLed but is it still worth it to pick it up for $320 right now? In my opinion yes! While it's not the coolest UCS set, it's still a great set and will be selling for over $400 by the end of the year probably. Quote
kerrmando Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I think it's a great set to buy even at 320. People said that about the snowspeeder and look at it now! Quote
afol_sf Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 ...I say pick one up if you can find one for no more than $300... it's worth it... Quote
Studebricker Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I have no idea how much it will go up, but I think it's pretty unique, as it's the only other UCS besides the Falcon that was built to minifig scale. Quote
Grolim Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I would grab one soon if you haven't already. I think this one is going to keep going up for a while yet. Quote
fartyarty123 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 got imperial shuttle at toys r us few days ago for $259 Quote
StarPod Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Do you think buying these used is a good idea? Quote
Diabolos80 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Do you think buying these used is a good idea? Yes. If i want to build a set, i got no problem buying a used one. I imagine the same goes for most buyers. You'll get lower returns, but on a lower investment. Plus, it'll be easier to sell. Used popular sets ALWAYS sell. Quote
