Popular Post brickvoyeur
Quote I'll read the Nightmare Before Christmas story this year, kids. Twas the night before Clearance And all through the aisle Steamrollers were packed Into my cart like a pile Exo Suits were hung In the storage with care Knowing that in a decade They still will be there Sergeant Jyn Erso was nestled Deep under my bed With terrible proportions And a face that looks dead Wonder woman in her armor And cheetah in her cap The lasso of truth will tell you That this set is pure crap When out on my doorstep A noise shook me awake ShopJustice still delivering Olaf Flat as a pancake Faster shipping than FedEx The turds as they came I cried and I pouted As I called them by name "Now, Dots! now, Mario! Now Lego Movie 1 and 2! On, Raiders! on, Mighty Dinos! On, Takodana and constractables too! To the depths of the dumpster! Stacked 50 feet tall Now throw away! throw away! throw away all!" Each year I make efforts To donate a bit more But Toys for tots sends a bill For returning them to my door Since I can't give them away I'll dig a big pit It's the final solution To get rid of this sh!t I shook as I laughed At the thought of relieving this pain It was nearly 3am So I looked quite insane As I poured the kerosene I cheered with delight "I'll light you on fire, So you're out of my sight" Edited December 7, 2022 by brickvoyeur 15

Anyone bailing on 10240 should at least wait to list during opening weekend of rogue one. Guaranteed many people will be looking for an original trilogy xwing!! totally agree. it's also not surprisng that 10240 hasn't shot up so soon. They were still available sporadically on amazon in late December 2015 and early January of this year for MSRP when I bought another one. The set was out for 3 years. The market is saturated. It will do nothing until the seller counts go down. This is just how it plays out. The only bright side is UCS X-wings are on a 13 year remake schedule so there should be a few years of decent profit once seller count gets into the 70s (instead of 136 like right now under the main listing). hopefully all these lowballers in the mid200s will get their stock whacked by Rogue1. Do most SW fans now have turds for brains or what? Maybe it's because LEGO never sold a single SW set to any SW fan but only to resellers. Maybe the whole theme, maybe TLG's whole business is carried by investors.

I wouldn't class them as fools though. I'd say the percentage of fools amongst LEGO fans is at least as high as that of fools in the average population, which means there are indeed a lot of "blockheads" amongst people buying retired LEGO sets. At the end of the day, the average consumer probably has a finite budget for LEGO purchases in a given month/quarter/year. A new investor/collector (I'll assume the more seasoned veterans picked up the Red-5 during it's retail lifespan) could drop something like $1700 U.S. dollars to purchase the six currently available sets. Throw in the other large exclusives for your buyer's consideration and the choices are not only staggering, but likely financially overwhelming. That is a wise assessment which TLG will hopefully consider regarding the size of their future (SW) portfolio.
pete411
Red 5 is a turd and will continue being a turd for years to come. I should have realized this back in April 2015 when I asked the Lego Store employee that I regularly shoot the **** with how R5 was selling. His reply was... "Not at all. I still have dozens of stock in the back room with early 2014 seals. I haven't sold one in over a month... I mean cmon, the price is ridiculous. It should be $150 at most." Sigh. Should have listened to him but I walked out with a R5 and ToO instead.

And we are even worse. Cause we seem to follow eachother's foolness blindly without thinking. I guess the latter is slowly changing for the better. Especially when seeing the retiring soon sets still being available.

Even the "cheap" non-UCS one sells for more - what's wrong with people? Again, the selling window was missed!

Manse1001
Yeah I'm not sure you can class Red5 as a turd, I sold one a few months ago for £300, that was a over 100% profit. Granted I didn't go too deep on them but if purchased back in the good old days when Argos were knocking these out for £99 that is a tidy profit!! As mentioned, wait until rogue one and I'm sure it will spike.

I have never seen a movie cause a spike in a retired Lego set's price. All the new movie will do is cause more clueless resellers to list in expectation of a spike and drive the price further down. A spike will happen once excess stocks are cleared. Going to be a few more years for Red 5, possibly longer if TLG keeps making mistakes and damaging the brand and its collectability.

How many new Star Wars movies need to come out? 4 each year? A good set is a winner even without a movie. Hence, I believe Lego City is the best selling theme ever. I cannot recall any movie about that theme. Edited December 3, 2016 by Ciglione

Thanks if you can share. Checkout the "How Many" app extension on the google chrome extension store. Free version only gives 5 free daily uses but it will give you an idea of its usefulness (you can uninstall and reinstall as many times as you want to keep trying it out). Paid extension is well worth it for the time it saves us.
