Not retired yet and selling like hot cakes on Amazon for $320+ in the USA. Most bought in for ~ $150. I'd call that a success. Give it a year and it will be an easy 100-150% ROI.

I guess I'm the only loser who bought mine at Target for $188 (thinking I did fairly well to combine red card+discounted gift card + free shipping and only 4% tax when I buy online).

Do you really think the average buy in was $150?

Anyone who does this more than a hobby would have paid $125 - $150. Hobbyists and newspaper article readers would have paid retail and sales tax for $200+ buy ins. That is why some make 100% ROI and others 30%. I would guess those who do this for more than a hobby bought alot more than the other group and will have the greatest impact on price long term.

This perception is not being very fair to the folks who do this for a living.

Surprisingly (well not really) the dogs this time around are Star Wars (10188 and 10240) exclusives. The gravitational waves produced when these two are swallowed by their fast approaching remakes is going to be intense.

Curiously, in most of Europe the situation is exactly the reverse in terms of sales, buy-ins and appreciation, which is the point I originally made referring to the weakness of the SH theme. At equal money, no one here in their right mind is going to swap a Tumbler for a Red 5 nor indeed 2 Tumblers for a Death Star.

Bought @199+tax in late Jan, sold for 300 cash two weeks after the purchase. Still a winner IMO.

I understand that the big players have tax exempt status so that's some savings, but how would anyone have picked up the Tumbler, in large quantities at $125?

Thats something like 37.5% off. Not trying to be argumentative, I'm legitimately curious, as I don't recall BOGO, massive discounts, or clearance on this item.

if there some secret squirrel club that qualifies you to buy exclusives, in bulk, at steep discount, can I get handshake and password please?

There's a secret club and a gang sign.

Last Monday sold a 10224 Town Hall on eBay for $552 shipped.  I always feel unsure selling my winners, but hey... I ain't runnin' no museum.  Shipped cross country via UPS ground, which worried me, but buyer got it on time and in good condition... gave me great feedback for packaging (always love that).

Had it listed on craigslist at $475... got a few nibbles, but no serious buyers.

Shortly after it sold on eBay, a craigslist inquiry came in from a  guy who asked if I "wanted to trade"?  Now, I have more than one in stock... if this guy has a serious offer, I'm willing to listen. I told him up front that I wasn't really looking for a trade... that if that's what he wanted, it would have to be very attractive for me. I also told him I just sold one on eBay for about $550. He replied, "I know how much they're worth and I also know how much they were when they came out...." I felt like saying: So what are you offering d-bag?  He never would say.  Kept asking what I wanted in trade. I made a few (not very generous) suggestions, and never heard back from him.  I hate people like that.

To get that kind of discount one would need discount GC in the mix. Run the risk of getting banned or buying bogus cards that will keep capital tied up. I could use fuzzy math and count the GBH I received with my tumbler, but that was x1 to get me to the magic $150

haha. Those ppl just don't understand the world "market value". He should just kick himself not buying it "when they came out" instead of complain the current price of it. :)

that was most likely TARGET purchase with all those 15%/20%/15%/30% stacking around thanksgiving last year. that would have done the magic. i refrained myself from purchase during that time. { was too busy selling .... didn't have resources to cover both side (purchase & sales) at the same time }

10211 - Grand Emporium - $324 (FBM)
42000 - Grand Prix Racer - $230 (FBA)
5560 - Pink Brick Box - $58 (FBA)
Series 7 - Bunny Suit Guy - $34 (EBay)

I guess for the SFLL in me.  I finally sold my SKILZ Mulit-Sport radars for $50 each after a $5 buy-in. They sold much faster than I thought they would.
